The cool thing with seeing Dan & Oli go back and forth is seeing their diff perspectives both on a creative level, and on a necessity level - Oli is preferring the Alterboy because of its sound on his voice, but if Dan wants to use that same effect for the stacks of guitars (or post TBE, like reverb and delay), then he runs into the issue mentioned above. Thus, he needs the Elastique plugin to solve that gap; even if he's still using the Alterboy on the vocals. I wish Soundtoys would just make a Big Alterboy, something to compete with modern plugins that accomplish the same effect like the Infected Mushroom or Baby Audio plugins; because Oli is so right on an artistic point - the way the Alterboy sounds when you really abuse it just sounds good. There's a reason it's still used by so many today! Just listen to like any Blackbear album lol However, if the Elastique then sounds "too good" also when used on the "stacks of guitars" example, now you need something else to fill in the gap between the Alterboy sound and limitation in its capabilities, being an older plugin. Conversations and discussions like that are what I love to see, that really show behind the scenes aspects of the modern studio experience - figuring out which plugins sound right for the song in front of you, the same way guitarists will play around for hours finding which pedals or amps sound right for the song. Absolutely in tears about the rolling back Pro Tools thing with Dan 🤣 absolutely real af moment
