I would say that anemones are extremely hardy. You're definitely right about them disliking change, but in my experience they tolerate a lot. Will they look happy when there are big fluctuations? Probably not. But the absolute abuse I have seen them handle is something else. I've seen an anemone survive as the last inhabitant in a fully neglected tank after my dad and stepmom divorced and he left the tank behind. The anemone had no tentacles, no color, and was a fraction of the former size, but it survived in a tank with off the chart nitrates, zero lighting and heat, minimal to no flow, and very dramatic fluctuations in salinity (she would only refill it when the water was so low that the display tank waterline went below the overflow and the sump started running dry and making noise, and she would fill it back up to the max fill line). I moved the anemone into my tank when I was house sitting for her, and it was recovering nicely I lost power during hurricane Idalia and the tank temperature got to high and I lost most of my lifestock. Even then, my personal anemone survived that.

Did you ever end up carrying its genes to the next generation? It almost seemed like you could raise a hardy breed of it in your name.

@Ceres4S2D1 No, it never reproduced. It died during hurricane Idalia before it was able to fully recover. But it was nothing special. Just a clone of a standard green bubble tip.

@@zakarymcleod1850 But just a bit ago, you described it of remarkable capabilities of not dying in the extreme. I mean, I guess it's hard to think of its strengths when it died in the end, anyways, but imagine all of the revenue you could have drew in from it, if it hadn't.
@zakarymcleod1850
@zakarymcleod1850 9 ай бұрын
@Ceres4S2D1 Nothing survived the hurricane except my other anemone and two clownfish. Zoas, leathers, xenia, the sick anemone, damselfish, 6 lined wrasse, snails, hermit crabs, emerald crabs, duncans, a skunk cleaner shrimp, and even my aiptasia and coraline algae didn't survive. It got over 90 degrees F in the tank with no light or flow and just an airstone for oxygen. I'd say that doesn't take away from the one individual's strength, especially since one of the only survivors was also an anemone.

I just set up the same 14g peninsula to be a euphy / clown pair tank and my 1st, 2nd and 3rd thought was wow, the return pump is really powerful for this tank. So much so that even on the lowest pump setting the water level in the main display is very near the overflow level and the adjustable riser is unusable beyond the lowest setting. Not a deal breaker though and I still really like this AIO. I have an RFG kit coming from Vivid Creative Aquatics and may look into a ball valve as well. Your AI Prime light settings were really helpful for me as a starting point. I searched far and wide for some guidance on intensity for this size tank. This video was really well done, as all your videos usually are, and a huge help to me. You’ve been an inspiration to me. Thanks a bunch!

This is an example of a high maintenance, high supplement, high cost nano tank. There are definitely more natural and cost effective ways to get into the saltwater aquarium hobby. I understand linking as many products as possible for sales. With all that said there is still a good amount of substance and information to take in. Thank you for sharing. I cant complaim too much seeing that i dont have any videos posted at all.

Hi Matthew. What light color does BTA's thrive to? Blue or white? Make white higher than blue intensity?
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, anemones tend to thrive in the same environment as corals, so blue light around 450-460 nm is the focus.

Once question. I know that this set up is for this video but don't you think that considering that an anemone can grow up to 6.5 feet the set up is a bit small? I just wondering because I think this is the next project I want to build and maybe a bigger tank is way better.

A great Tip to help your clown understand nems is to have a ipad show a video of a clown hosting a nem. I had a clown that didnt understand it and after showing him a vid during the evening(taped a ipad woth vid on repeat to the glass) he started the symbiosis ans never left the nem anymore!

In an anemone tank are there supplements wich anemones can benefit from for example aminos or is it all abouth perfect lights for photosythesis
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
Light is the biggest factor, but some types of anemones can benefit from spot feedings too. If you do end up spot feeding, just use small foods as anemones have a very simple digestive system. They don't do a good job of digesting huge chunks and will usually end up spitting them out.

Snails and anemones can usually coexist peacefully. Trochus snails are one of our favorites because they can multiply in an aquarium environment and will flip themselves upright if they fall on their backs.

Hi Matthew, quick question I want to get a reef tank and set it up as best I can to hit the ground running, is it OK to fit a skimmer and roller system on a fresh system? Sounds like maturing the system is key to sustaining stable level parameters so would you advise a dosing unit from the get go or after a few months of set up? 👍
@Confused_Hippie

get it all buddy, go nuts! you might not need to run it on 100% out of the gate but having it now is much better then trying to fit it into a wet tank. take your time for everything else Fish, corals, water par but getting all the equipment you need will be useful near your end game.

2:38 no one mentions this, but the common clownfish in the hobby is VERY inbred. I would buy form a breeder that outcrosses their strains to ensure that the fish are genetically diverse and healthy. Even fish recently bred from wild caught clowns, or a mix between a wild clown and a strain would be good options.

Honestly almost all my clownfish went into an anemone on their own. Few months back i got a new black storm and the moment i put it in the tank, it swam right into the nem lol. I also got a wyoming white and it too swam right into the nem. My previous clowns also went into the nems on their own quite fast. 2 hours from introduction into the tank and they’re in the nem already. The only time i had a clown not go into a nem on its own, i just put my hand into the tank and it scared the fish and then it went right into the nem.

@@Spazz2sick First of all, water carries very little beneficial bacteria so it's pointless to use water from another tank. Secondly, I obviously did listen to him, because I pointed out that he cycled the aquarium using the live rock and sand from another tank. What I take issue with is him telling beginner hobbyists they should wait six months to a year before getting an anemone. This is a direct quote from the video, "Absolutely best practice to wait six months to one year before introducing anemones to a new system." He thought this was so important he put it in text on the screen to highlight it and then did the exact opposite.
