With the showrunner of seasons 1-3, his plan was to end the show after 8 seasons,(which it still is), but the difference is, it was always gonna follow the main family and show them becoming villains. But the old showrunner left after season 3.

My favorite character. I fell in love with her during that scene in the hotel bar, between her and Strand. Two really flawed, loveable characters just bonding over tequila. Really hoping for a reunion drink between the two drinking buddies. I was spoiled that she'd be returning when I started the show a few weeks back, and I'm honestly glad I was, because I really missed her for those seasons without, despite the fact that I really loved the other characters (John Dorie is a beautiful, beautiful character). Welcome back Kim Dickens, love your work on Season 8, and I wish you nothing but the best in the future. Madison Clark and all the other characters and actors who played them have made this show very lovely.

I hate how they announced her return before she showed up in season 7, they obviously needed something to get more people back into the show but the surprise of her coming back would have been better. Same thing with them announcing spin offs midway through season 11 removing the stakes for 4 of the characters.
