This is well spotted indeed, it's because during world war two the Japanese launched a brutal attack upon the Chinese people in ways so distasteful they're beyond speaking of and this brought to a head a world history of permanent conflict between the people. A bit like maos china many of these elder individuals have relatives who spoke of the times to them and it creates an almost intergenerational trauma. Fun fact this happens to other countries for example the Spanish, the Mexicans and the Chileans all argue over who's version of Spanish is most authentic.
