This same prank was done in Hungary 20 years ago. No mimes, just completely silent treatment, of many stand-up guys (each) . The most skilled stopped the act, and literally tried to talk to the audience, what is wrong, how can he help, no charge, just out of empathy, and successfully talked 10 minutes before the reveal. He said that this was his most horrible time in life, and the entire audience was in tears.

@@mashy712 Mastering the art of silent listening is simpler than you might think. Picture yourself back in high school, trapped in the most mind-numbing class with the dullest teacher imaginable. Remember how their words would drone on endlessly, never quite penetrating your consciousness? That's the mental state you're aiming for, but with purpose. The key is to cultivate this mindset intentionally, allowing words to glide through your ears without ever taking root in your mind. It's about perfecting the ability to hear without truly listening, letting language wash over you like white noise.

@@hollyperrin7353 Lmao no humor will make everyone laugh. You just need enough and that is what defines it as good. One single person's approval really doesn't amount to much at all. And of course if you have watched way too much stand up comedy, you're gonna find a lot of recycled lines or not find it too funny anymore. I mean look at rap. There are only so many words to rhyme and things to talk about for the average person to relate. This type of comedy is the same, there are only so many ways to tell a joke for an audience that is relatable and funny. Btw I found him funny. Also, just because I don't like a certain type of cake, doesn't mean I go around and tell people this cake tastes too much like cake and is bad since it didn't taste good to me, so you are all wrong for liking it. I REALLY appreciate the fact you guys showed a portion of your call with him and let him explain himself. It seems like he really got inside his own head. I get the impression that when he got out there and saw all of the mimes, he realized he was being pranked but didn't want to run into an issue where he could later be accused of reneging on his contract. He did his set-- and he did it well-- but it's easy to see how demoralizing that is to stand up in front of a silent crowd. Maybe he thought, "Well, I'm gonna defy expectations. I'm gonna pull a miracle here and make the mimes laugh!" But they are professionally silent. So then he maybe starts playing out various worst-case scenarios in his head-- edited clips that show him performing in front of a full crowd that, nonetheless, remains completely silent. And when you start thinking like that, it really becomes a downward spiral and can be really hard to take a step away from it and realize how absurd the whole thing is. And then, as he said, a few days go by, and he gets some breathing room, and he can see the intent was not malicious and that he wasn't the best version of himself. All of that is to say, I get where he's coming from. I'm glad you guys cleared the air with him. I would absolutely love it if he included this experience in one of his future sets-- I laughed my ass off, and I admired his commitment to the set, but I'm not gonna lie every time the camera cut back to the mimes I absolutely lost it.
