Was SO glad to see a new Furniture Fable in my feed today. :) The bench is stunning. I vividly recall that succulent console project from last year....and it's great to see those similar principals applied to a unique piece which very much deserves to be saved. It turned out beautifully. I was thinking it would still be a bench in the end. An idea for a quick conversion would be to buy cushions or pillows to insert into the boxes you made. If they are big enough, you'll have an overstuffed and comfy place to sit and enjoy. It would be nice to see how you decorate for the holidays. I was totally transfixed when I saw the settee, rot, dirt and everything. It reminded me of something from the "Life with father" movie, set in the early 1900's. It amazes me that it was left to rot (it didn't which speaks of quality we don't have anymore...) outside. I was: "Look at that" with you! when I saw the springs and the (possibly) horsehair. The weaving was amazing, and the cording tying it all together had me holding my breath. I lived in Europe for some years, and I bought a number of antique pieces some of which I restored after attending restoration courses. If I had it redone as a settee, I'd priced it rather high. I was under the impression that you would be opening an Etsy shop... I was so looking forward to being able to buy some pieces from you! Great to have you back Andy!

Oh oh oh...timing is everything! Sadly, I rarely get that right. I rescued the same type of item from the landfill and stared at it for a year or two. The wood work was gorgeous while the upholstery was disgusting. Finally, under duress I took it apart this spring to salvage the wood and springs. I wish I had seen this first! We live in Southern California, and last year sold our big house and moved into a mobile home, 1/4 of a mile from the ocean. Well, I have been repainting the furniture from old dark wood to bright spring. If you are interested....I got a painting idea colors from Pintrest and went to work. Very slowly, but repainted the china cabinet, two side cupboards, and a small coffee bar cabinet. Every thing matches and looks like it was professional designed. Don't look too close , and remember I am 83 yr. old. I am very proud of my work and I would like for you to see it. I will post some pictures (if I can find someone who can show me how to do that HA HA)

Only because you asked, "what would have you done" I was getting silver toned vibes from the weathered wood. I would have done a custom mixed medium dark walnut stain. Then I would have done a metallic silver wash(put on, wipe off quickly until I get the tone I want.) Let's stick with the I don't know how to reupholster either. Wood planks on the seat and get someone to make a bench cushion. I like your box insert idea. I thought you were going to install cushions inside(boy was I wrong, lol). It gave me ideas though. Enjoy your present. Oh, and how many hours did you log????

This was a genuine LOL moment ...Drea in your dreams with her little ditty will now be my own ditty to get cracking in my own garage I am considering blowing up her image on a poster and hanging it in my workspace,..kinda hard to get that catchy tune out of my guilty head it now resides there with the infamous "It's a small world" ride song from Disneyland as hard to unhear once exoerienced::) I think your living bench is gorgeous AND adaptable, brilliant!
