I was totally transfixed when I saw the settee, rot, dirt and everything. It reminded me of something from the "Life with father" movie, set in the early 1900's. It amazes me that it was left to rot (it didn't which speaks of quality we don't have anymore...) outside. I was: "Look at that" with you! when I saw the springs and the (possibly) horsehair. The weaving was amazing, and the cording tying it all together had me holding my breath. I lived in Europe for some years, and I bought a number of antique pieces some of which I restored after attending restoration courses. If I had it redone as a settee, I'd priced it rather high. I was under the impression that you would be opening an Etsy shop... I was so looking forward to being able to buy some pieces from you! Great to have you back Andy!

Dear Andy..I am 83 yrs old and started watching you by chance. Love every episode so far. The main thing is you have inspired me! We live in Southern California, and last year sold our big house and moved into a mobile home, 1/4 of a mile from the ocean. Well, I have been repainting the furniture from old dark wood to bright spring. If you are interested....I got a painting idea colors from Pintrest and went to work. Very slowly, but repainted the china cabinet, two side cupboards, and a small coffee bar cabinet. Every thing matches and looks like it was professional designed. Don't look too close , and remember I am 83 yr. old. I am very proud of my work and I would like for you to see it. I will post some pictures (if I can find someone who can show me how to do that HA HA)

Absolutely beautiful! I have several Eastlake pieces. An upholstered chair, four dining chairs with cane seats and a dresser with a marble top. They’re quite common to find here in GA. I use “Howard’s” on my antiques. It brings life back into wood. I’ve even had pieces so dry, it completely absorbed the “Howard’s”. I just buffed the piece with an old towel.

Wow! I practically smelled the musty odour of the 100 year old fibres as you pulled on them. It turned out beautifully. I was thinking it would still be a bench in the end. An idea for a quick conversion would be to buy cushions or pillows to insert into the boxes you made. If they are big enough, you'll have an overstuffed and comfy place to sit and enjoy. It would be nice to see how you decorate for the holidays. I will be catching up on some of your episodes in the meantime 😊

FYI, new springs are easily purchased, the only use I can think of for the old ones would be to keep critters from digging up plants in the garden! You did a lovely and amazing job , from vision to creation. It is so unfortunate that such a beautiful piece was abused so badly.

Oh oh oh...timing is everything! Sadly, I rarely get that right. I rescued the same type of item from the landfill and stared at it for a year or two. The wood work was gorgeous while the upholstery was disgusting. Finally, under duress I took it apart this spring to salvage the wood and springs. I wish I had seen this first! BTW, tons of ideas for the springs on YT.

What a creative idea! i think you really breathed new life into a piece of fine craftsmanship that would have otherwise fallen into disrepair. You basically saved this piece. Outstanding work! Just as a side note, I think it's worth mentioning that we also carry pigments that you can mix directly into our oil to make your own stains. A lot of restoration people seem to like our pigment system because you can mix any color or style of stain you want. You aren't limited to a line of premixed stains, instead you just mix your own for the occasion. Hell, I even made a paint out of it and finished some of my exterior gates with the espresso and i think it looks absolutely fantabulous. You can do opaque stains, ceruse, translucent stains, high gloss looks, matte looks, and everything in between. Stained or not though, I'm seriously looking forward to you using our products in the future. Also, your dog is very cute! P.S. though it's probably obvious, it's worth saying that is you ever have any questions about the product you're always welcome to just give us a ring at the phone number provided on our website!
