love this video! It's also very Asian style: filming the actor (yourself) without the face. Smooth music in the background, everything step by step including every detail. With all the patience of drawing an Asian calligraphy or pruning a bonsai. And with the cute little remarks written by yourself over the screen. Haha, keep making them!

@mattm90872 жыл бұрын
Similar battle. Green hair algae, then cyano, then green hair algae and diatoms, haha. Every time I beat one, another one fills its place. I think my refugium was to blame. More cheato dying off than really thriving. Maybe the vibrant I have been dosing or poor lighting or some combination of both was knocking it out. Removed the cheato. I have been manually removing unwanted yuck in the tank and will be doing weekly water changes until everything looks sparkling again. Keep up the good fight!

Thank you for making my absolute favourite videos! I look forward to them so much. Side note, should you ever need an alternative to manual removal, Chemiclean works excellently for Cyanobacteria. So long as you turn off the skimmer and run an air stone for a day or two, I have never seen any side effects whatsoever- fish, inverts and corals always unaffected

I would love an update on your copepod culture. I set up my own culture after watching your video, two 4 litre jars, both doing well and I have a chubby Mandarin & Ruby Red Dragonet as a result! A question - how do you maintain the temperature as we head into winter, especially overnight. I’ve resorted to placing the jars in a dish of water with a heater, seems to working so far…

Look at your nitrates and phosphates. If your phosphate are higher than your nitrates that might be the issue with the Cyanobacteria. If that is the case try using some GFO to lower your phosphates and dosing some Neo nitrate Brightwell to raise your nitrates. Aim for getting your nitrates 10 times your phosphates. For example if your phosphates are .03 then nitrates should be 3 to 5 parts ppm.
@BlueReefTank2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I will try the GFO option

@@BlueReefTank I had Dynos. LFS told me to start over, but I refused. I finally beat it! Took a lot of patience.
@nathan65082 жыл бұрын
Will take you a long time to get rid of cyano weekly water changes are a mistake you will just fuel it even more your nutrients must be very low or bottomed out bring nutrients up as well. Dirty water is the way to beat it I tried everything nothing works but the dirty water method don't even clean the glass and it will burn itself out no water changes for few weeks 👍

Can we get a link to the glass scraper? I've tried to search for that one.. the one I have is so bulky!
@piccuh2 жыл бұрын
Also, I’ve been wanting a pipefish so badly but I’m not sure how they would go in my mixed reef. I’d say I have moderate flow, but it’s a big tank (6ft) with lower flow areas and a bit higher flow areas right in front of the powerheads. How delicate would you say they are in terms of flow/swimming ability?
@michaelwatson57222 жыл бұрын
Pipefish will do fine, they're better swimmers than ppl give them credit for. It's mainly about food with them. Have a bunch of copepods.
@piccuh2 жыл бұрын
Oh awesome, thanks for the advice. I’ve heard both ends of the spectrum- they’ll do fine vs they’re as delicate as seahorses- so I’ve been on the fence. This tank is 1 year old from dry so I’ll give it another year or so of building up the fuge before giving them a go. Thanks again
@youronlycow2 жыл бұрын
Awesome content as always! btw, are your firefishes a mated pair?
@BlueReefTank2 жыл бұрын
I reckon they are! One of them would "lightly" nip on the other occasionally but it didn't do any damage at all. The other one would also casually swim as if nothing happened 😅

Just remember those types of razors should only be used on the side with flat side of the blade. You will feel the difference running the razor along the surface of a tile or desk at about a 30 degree angle, one side will want to grab into the surface and the other side won't. The side that doesn't "grab" is the flat side of the razor and is the one you want to use against the glass. If you use the wrong side you will find the algae grows faster and gets harder and harder to get off over time as you cause the surface of the glass to become rough. The rough surface of the glass then reflects more light growing the algae faster only now the surface isn't "smooth as glass" leaving a fine film of algae behind that grows back quicker and has a better hold on the glass.
@ethanmclaughlin8682 жыл бұрын
