Brinsea Maxi II - cleaning and changing the fan

This video demonstrates the cleaning process that we advise customers to carry out on their Maxi II egg incubator after each hatch if possible and before any machine is sent back to Brinsea. In the UK it is now a legal requirement that equipment is disinfected before it leaves the customer's premises as part of the government initiative to reduce the risk of the spread of Avian Influenza. Brinsea technical staff are now obliged to return machines to customers who have sent machines in for service or for repair work if these machines have not been properly disinfected. Regular cleaning will also help customers to get the best performance from their machine and will prolong the life of their machine. This will be especially true of the Maxi II Eco which is often used purely as a hatcher in combination with one of our Ovation egg incubators. Hatching creates significant amounts of dust and fluff which will eventually clog up the fan and sensors if the machines are not cleaned. View this in conjunction with your Maxi instructions. DO NOT wash machine parts in your dishwasher.
The video also demonstrates how replacing the fan on a Maxi incubator is very simple to do.

Hi there. I just love these instructional videos. Just brilliant. Just wondering if you could do a tutorial on replacing the auto turner. The screws on the auto turner are starting to rust because of the high humidity and I want to be prepared. Just in case. I would be grateful for the screw size and type so I can replace them myself. Great products which I recommend to everybody. Two friends have recently bought them at my recommendation and they love them. I’ve even hatched turkeys in my mini and maxi incubators - although I know it’s not recommended. Both had 100% hatch rates.

Very good video, main con of this machine is fan ,otherwise it a wonderful incubator. I am using these (have two) since 2017. Can you tell me how to restore it to factory settings? I am facing problem on calibration.

Some people are fastidious about keeping their incubators clean, others less so. Cleanliness is importance for the success of future hatches.

I would be a bit reluctant to use a large vacume around the motherboard of the incubator as the static electricity can destroy the motherboards components.

Hello Albert. I have just spoken to our technician to clarify this. The only exposed part of the control board is the sensor, in the video we say to be careful cleaning around the sensor and we only use the vacuum remove any loose dirt. We do not advise the customer to remove the board when cleaning. The nozzle and tubing of the vacuum cleaner used in the video are plastic and unlikely to conduct electricity. He has cleaned hundreds of incubators with a vacuum cleaner and never had a problem with static. Kind regards, Brinsea.

After cleaning do I need to turn it on to dry again or let it run 24 hours without water before cleaning?

is there a way of cleaning the turning device in the side of the incubator? It has brown wires connecting to the motherboard. My turning device seems to have moisture in it and some old bits of down. I have cleaned the fan and put back in

Hello, I have received a Brinsea Ovascope. There is a black rubber tube in the pack which in the first drawing in the brochures of the product it shows it should not be placed over the LED light, however it is not mentioned where it should be placed or what’s the use of it. Would you be able to clarify what is the use of this tiny black rubber tube? Thanks.

Hello, do you mean the flexible black ring that comes with the OvaView that you use with the OvaScope? The instructions show that when you use the OvaScope with the OvaView you do not use the black ring too. The black ring is for when you are candling eggs without the OvaScope - it gives you a smaller aperture to allow you to see more detail inside the egg. The OvaScope will not fit with this flexible ring in place. The smaller flatter disc that comes supplied with the OvaScope is for when you are candling smaller eggs, as in the top right hand diagram.
