I know nothing about drones, but I can see how great it shows the view of Brisbane. I see lots of videos of Brisbane on youtube, but they are all about the city. There is so much more to Brissie than the CBD. Can you please get out into the suburbs and show us the sights of the likes of Wynnum, Manly, Mt. Cotten, Brookfield. I know Redcliffe and other outer areas which make up “ greater Brisbane” are so well worthy of videoing other than the CBD. Please do your brilliant drone videoing outside of the city. Ta!

I would like to thank Mark Lewis at CASA for providing the correct information in regards to Drone Regulations and laws. I understand that I have breached the populous regulations and this video will remain public as a lesson to those who are thinking of flying around suburban areas or populous areas like I did. Please note that all future flights undertaken will be within the CASA Drone regulations.

Andy Hektic what was the specific claim that CASA made that was deemed to be illegal?

There was a couple of close encounters e.g. at the beginning where I flew up from a park and people were nearby. The other scene was when I was flying above cars also. There's a rule where you need to be 30m away from people, cars & buildings however after CASA reviewed the video they gave permission to allow the video to remain uploaded.

Andy Hektic i dont think there was anything wrong with the take off as they are far enough away. The only dodgy things i saw was you flying directly over the road and I would have avoided the Brisbane river adjacent southbank due to the helipads in that area. Its good to see CASA have realeased that app as I have had many arguements with people arguing with me on KZbin as to the legal/illegal operations of drones along the Brisbane River in general. Ive always suspected that the loudest people on here are from butt hurt licenced commercial drone operators that have lost tonnes of business that are spreading disinfo through fake profiles. I think a blanket nfz radius around the helipads is a bit unfair due to the approach/departure path of these helipads not ever being a 360 degrees radius in practice. I believe the approach/departure path extends 1100ft from a helipad. The exact number i cant remember.

Yeah when people were commenting on how close I was to a helipad, CASA didn't mention a single thing about it funnily. As long as CASA are fine with this video then I'm not going to feel bad about this video however, I'm just going to be more aware in future flights so I don't have these issues again

Andy Hektic by the way Drone Runner is one of these fake profiles spreading disinfo. There is a real Drone Runner account however. Another guy called matsta177 or something like that is another account. Probably the same person.

Wow, cool footage. Sucks about CASA tho. I downloaded their app myself and discovered that there really is no point having a drone in Australia as they can't legally be flown anywhere there's anything to look at. So, I guess I'll bin my idea of buying one. Sucks. :-( Turns out the only drones I've ever seen "in the wild" have all been flown illegally.

Thanks man! Not necessarily. It's a good idea to keep in contact with CASA because they can provide good advice on how you can still fly your drone and take the shots you require. As long as your intentions are not to fly in public or directly above people then you should be fine

I just rewatched your video on my 4K screen... wow... great quality there! I've had a look at more CASA stuff and it does seem there is scope to do most sensible things so long as you take care not to fly over people and traffic and, if it's something a bit unusual, to seek their advice first. Much of what you shot seems ok except, as you say, flying over the expressway and maybe near those people on the river bank. I'm new to Brisbane so I'm still getting used to how stunning this city is around the CBD.
