Although the koala population is growing again,still enormously sad how many we have lost over the years.Thanks for the update Adam.

I agree. And the concern of some is that depending on the locations chosen for koala repopulation, the other causes for their decline may mean we continue to lose many that are brought in. At least the team at UQ will be monitoring them, and hopefully they'll also be able to find areas that are less risky for the koalas.

Thanks. I was planning on doing the Brisbane vs Sydney video while I kept working on the Then and Now one, but when the BCC emailed me details of this, I had to get it out as soon as I could. It also gave me the chance to use some footage I'd shot years ago of koalas that I hadn't used enough if at all.

Maybe the koalas were getting a little too loose in the valley themselves!

I'm really hoping we can wake up and start undoing all the harm we've caused to our natural environment moving forward, and not just for the koalas' sake!

And if we lose our fruit bats, there won’t be any koalas. No bats, no koalas.
@BrisbaneChannel

@@Sue.e.e I'm actually about to start making a short documentary for the channel about the bats. I'll be following the work done by Queensland Bat Conservation and Rescue. It'll be a long-term project, so probably won't have the finished video until late this year or early 2025.

@@BrisbaneChannel wow. I will be looking forward to seeing that. Our fruit bats have it so tough and they are so misunderstood. Society really need to understand the extreme importance of them and realise that they are not dangerous unless handled and even then, less than 1% carry the lyssavieus. We have a roost in bushland across the road from my home in Cleveland. They really are amazing. 🦇 😊

🐨 yes we’ve nearly wiped them out 😔 they only eat a half dozen types of the 100 different types of gum trees . ….. we have some koalas here at holland park but mostly possums here in abundance 😳 the possums almost need to be trapped and relocated..
@BrisbaneChannel
@BrisbaneChannel 5 ай бұрын
Just don't send the possums here, we have plenty in my part of Algester (still love them though).

Dystopian feel to this driving an animal next to extinction almost literally just to try and repopulate them back into the most heavily human populated areas, seems like a pr campain to me.

I have a plan speak to someone from the Koala Foundation (who it seems is quite critical of some of these repopulation activities) for a future video. That's probably going to be toward the end of this year, however.

We need more koala hospitals. One would have been perfect in the Birkdale precinct where Redland Council want to put the white water centre for the 2032 olympics. Petitions are being signed to stop this going ahead.
