Thanks Nat Geo. Two additions/ corrections: since the release of this, the koala has been listed as Endangered 😭 The reason mentioned for deforestation is not entirely accurate. Urbanisation is one of the reasons but the biggest is for BEEF production. 80% of our meat is exported so biggest action people from overseas can take to help save the koalas is to stop eating imported Australian meat (check the label) or drastically reduce your consumption. Second reason, habitat destruction for urban expansion to meet the housing demand, new housing estates being built. Our immigration levels are at a record high so again, if you want to help the koala, do not move to Australia. As an independent Australian researcher on Koalas, I can tell you planting trees is not the long term solution because we cannot plant trees quick enough to outpace the speed at which their trees are being cut down.
