You can also change the desktop on LMDE from Cinnamon to Mate or another desktop if you want. I have also tried Linux Mint LMDE with different desktop environments. They all work.

There is an option to add the Unity Style Menu in the control Center but when I installed it is didn't work at all. The Brisk Menu has this menu as an option as well as the dark theme. You can also move the search bar from the top to the bottom of the menu. Though you can only change this in Dconf Editor. The settings are not in the Brisk Menu itself as they are with the Mint Menu.

I used to be a Windows user before I changed to Linux. So I think the old videos of how to tweak Windows and install things are useful to anyone who is on Windows. All right most people are now using Windows 10 or 11 and my older videos are mostly about Windows XP, Vista Windows 7 and 8. But some of those tweaks still work on Windows 10 and maybe 11. Not everyone wants to or is ready to switch to Linux. Some people are still using Windows 7 or 8.1 because they hate Windows 10. Although that is not advisable as both are end of life. A lot of Linux users like me are ex-Windows users. Microsoft has changed Windows so much with Windows 10 and 11. So much so that a lot of people like myself don't want to use it anymore because staying on Windows 7 is no longer an option. Yes Linux is much better and it does have many of the features that Windows users who are looking for an alternative to Windows 10 and 11 want. But not everyone wants to give up Windows.

@@AndreaBorman Thank you, Andrea, for such a detailed reply. But I didn't mean your Windows videos. I meant like some of the personal videos. Because to get better views, it helps if the channel is focused on one topic only. And some of the old videos can bring down the rating of the channel when it comes to getting recommended. Like I said, if you look this up, you will find lots of videos about this concept. Although in your case, I'm not sure if it's that important because one great point about your channel is that you're a person who's doing this because you like it. You're not trying too hard like the others to grab the attention of everyone. You don't look desperate like many. So maybe your old videos also add to the charm. I don't know. I mean, you brought this channel to this level. You know best. In any ways, I wish you the best of luck.

can you do more linux stuff regarding security ? like how to add user , groups, difference between user and non-user , how to take care of /etc/passwd files
@AndreaBorman
@AndreaBorman 3 ай бұрын
On Linux it's pretty much the same as Windows regarding user accounts. There is the administrator account which gives you the control to do anything on the system. Or most things anyway. There is the standard account where users can use the web browsers and software. and have access to their own files. But they cannot install any software or updates or make any changes to they system. Then there is the root account which is like the hidden administrator account on Windows. Which you sometimes need to use as administrator if you want to make some changes to the system or copy files to the programs folder. You can also log in as root if you need to make some changes that cannot be done as administrator. Though you should not do this unless you have to. You have to enable the root account yourself and set a password for it. But I only use it to place programs such or themes in the system folders which can only be done as root. Like I did when I installed Palemoon Browser for example.

It's fast, simple, and gets out of the way so you can focus on what you need to do. Too bad I can't get that on a standard Windows 11 install.

The very first one I tried was Ubuntu back in 2010 but none of the WiFi drivers worked. Also the appearance was nothing like Windows so I tried Linux Mint 9 Gnome. That seemed to work best at the time but I still used Windows. Back then Linux was not as user friendly as it is now. Also I didn't know enough about how to use it back then. I now use Linux full time and find Linux Mint the best one. Also Debian is the one I am using a lot now. It's very similar to Linux Mint I think. With a few differences of course but if you know how to use Ubuntu you will be able to use Debian. Since both are very much the same. Debian 11 and 12 both come with drivers installed so you don't have to do anything. Everything should work out of the box the same as it does on Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
