Openshot is very similar to Windows Movie Maker. Which I used to use on Windows. They also have a version of Openshot for Windows which I didn't know about. I liked Windows Movie Maker but it doesn't work on Linux. So it has to be Openshot.
@itsnony774 ай бұрын
@@AndreaBorman I used Windows Movie Maker on Windows as well. I tried DaVinci Resolve on Linux but it really is overkill for my needs and requires a lot of hardware resources for the more advanced stuff. Openshot is the best Linux equivalent if you're used to Windows Movie Maker without a doubt. I've also used OBS as an alternative to simplescreenrecorder.

A few years ago I never thought I would be on Linux full time. But then Support for Windows 7 and 8 came to an end so Windows became unusable. I didn't want to upgrade to Windows 10 or the even worse Windows 11. So I thought I would try Linux Mint and now here I am full time on Linux. I was using Linux on and off on one computer when I was on Windows. Though I never thought of switching to it as my main OS. Then Windows changed with Windows 10 and I found I could do most of the things on Linux that I could do on Windows as everything just works. So it was then I decided to give up Windows and change to Linux. It's the best thing I ever did. Much better than being on Windows 10 or 11 which I hate.

Hello Gary I watch your chanel regular. Openshot is a lot like Windows Movie Maker which I used to use When I was on Windows. I also find Openshot easy to get along with. I do use Kazam but I sometimes have issues with it in that when I do a long video it doesn't always save it. So I also have Simple Screen Recorder which does not have this problem. I did try OBS but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I am glad you like my channel.

Thank you for showing us behind the scenes! I have a question though: is an Appimage just like a portable app in Windows?
@AndreaBorman4 ай бұрын
Yes it is. You just download the file, place it in a folder, make it executable and run it. It is also the same with Tar or Zip files. You just extract the file then run the program file. I have installed Waterfox and Palemoon web browser this way. I also get updates for them as well.

@@AndreaBorman Okl! BTW I have found out another way to add MIDI playback to Linux, by using Timidity! It has an advantage over Fluidsynth and that is lower CPU usage. First you install Timidity from the repos, then you type in terminal "timidity -iA Os" (capital letter O) this will then create 4 virtual MIDI ports starting with 128:0. You then have to bind one of these to the system MIDI port, so you just run "aconnect 14:0 128:0" then you have native MIDI playback! The only downisides is that a lot of programs are just hard coded to use Fluidsynth instead, so a lot will just ignore the system MIDI, and you will have to type these commands every time you boot up, but you can just put them in a startup script. I have GZDoom playing with native MIDI and it sounds great, also some MIDI websites use it too.
