I included time stamps to the different questions in the description so you can jump to what you need. Please leave your questions about Native Fish collecting below and I will do my best to answer them in the next episode of "Everything You Want To Know". If I didn't cover your question about bristlenose plecos please feel free to leave it in the comments and I will try to answer it. You can check out the bristlenose care guide here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4CXnIiefMylntE and a more in depth look at my breeding processes here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/epyoeJemetJ_htU

Wild Fish Tanks What is your favorite color variation of bristle nose plecos?
@WildFishTanks
@WildFishTanks 4 жыл бұрын
Connor Rothandler I think I would have to go with the marble calico. Longfin of the calico with the bright orange would be nice but not sure I’ve seen them. Usually the longfin calicos are kind of more brown and muddy

Easy fish to breed. Bred them when I was 15. I got a big male then 4 smaller females and they became a breeding group. I'm going to be keeping them again in a few months when my tank is mature enough. Cant bloody wait

Thank you, I appreciate the support! Your fish will thank you for the green beans! I just drain the can, you can rinse them if you want but I don’t even do that usually. A little goes a long way, start with just a little bit and see how long it takes for them to eat it. Just like any food if it’s still there after a day, take it out. Good luck!

Thanks for this! I ended up adopting a male convict cichlid and a bristle nose, who had already been living together. I was questioning whether the pleco was actually a bristle nose, kinda just has some cute looking whisker things, but now I just think she’s a girl and will continue to be safe and fine with the convict!

Absolutely phenomenal video Ryan! Arguably the best fish video I have ever watched...I'd put it alongside the Aquarium Coop breeding for profit series. Your delivery is great and your honesty and overall detail is simply fantastic! Keep it up. Can't wait for the next one! One question. When you water change on the fry grow out tanks, do you vacuum mulm from the bottom or simple drain water? If you vacuum mulm, how do you avoid sucking up any fry? Thanks again and have a great day. Hope you are staying healthy.
@WildFishTanks
@WildFishTanks 4 жыл бұрын
Quite the compliment there, appreciate it. I vacuum out the mulm every 2 or 3 water changes depending on the levels. I use a siphon cap so no small fish get sucked up (you can also DIY some netting over it but make sure it’s not too fine). I also usually won’t suck out the mulm in a tank where I just put new babies in. Give them a chance to grow a bit and be more resilient. They are very very fragile when tiny

Love this fish! I have a brown and an albino male in separate tanks. I bought them when they were so tiny I barely saw them for months. They grew so fast especially the brown. He is now about 5 inches in less than a year and even though the albino is older he past in length and girth. The albino is about 5 inches too just not as thick. Enjoyed this video

!00% absolutely loved the video. Anwered a lot of my questions and concerns with breeding the beautiful fish, except one question, how often should the veggies be given to the babies and adults(if the frequency is different) I have been breeding Mollys for years. Once I saw an Albino, I wanted all my 12 tanks to have one or two. Although, fish stores dont get them too often, or they do not live long after purhasing. One day, I saw a few babies. Not even knowing I had a male and female, how they bred, where the babies were laid, I was so excited, I pain stakenly, over 5 hours, removed 72, 1cm size babies, from a 55 gallon tank, with four 6" albino Rainbow Sharks. I was hooked. I watched a lot of videos on KZbin, talked to the fish stores I sell my Mollys, anyone n anywhere i could get more information on breeding them. I must admit, after seeing this video of yours, I got more info than all the others combined. You are great, interesting, to the point, clear n concise. Unfortunately, I have not had anymore eggs laid since then( 3 months ago). Ironically, I do nothing n have babies. Then I educate myself, purchased caves, incubator tanks, fed them veggies, did the freequent water changes, put in tanks with just 2 or 3 mollys, and no babies. Of the 72, 50 were sold recently. 6 died, 1 fell down the drain(I actually took the pipes part looking for him) I have the remaining 15. They are 3 to a 29gal tank, with a breeding pair of mollys and an adult female albino. I still only have the one male. Any advice onwhat could be the reason no more have been spawned? Lastly: Do you have any mature male Albino Bristle nose Plecos? Swimmingly, Mary Pearson from Marys Mollys

Thanks for another great video After many mistakes and moving disruptions, I finally had my first successful Bristlenose fry, and my male was sitting on 4 clutches so I have a pretty full and busy tank now, and very proud of my fish. He only gave himself 2 days off before he was back on eggs and there will be more free swimmers in the next couple of weeks- luckily I feed very well and clean up the debris and do a 20-25’/. water change every 2 days to keep up with the load When do you think I should move the fry into a grow out? I recently moved and haven’t set up all my tanks yet so bio film is going to be really important Do you think new wood is a good source for biofilm with its abundance of white Bristlenose candy floss? I also use bio starter, old media, O/W, and spirilina powder to help speed up a good bio film on all the surfaces Thanks again-Tommy

@WildFishTanks
@WildFishTanks 4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback Garrett! I think I’ll do some more of these but will definitely do other style videos also. I’ll have a DIY video out for the first time in a while with the new rack system that will be coming. I’m lucky enough to be currently working with breeding groups of Japanese rice fish, some apsitos and some synodontis. Eggs everywhere, varying degrees of success with the fry however. Been filming it all and will eventually have videos on it. Unfortunately no longfin calicoes. Only super reds and lemon blue eye future breeders that I’m growing out. Most of the longfin calicoes I see out there aren’t the type of calico I like. I may make it a project to try to get some longfins out of my stock of calicoes. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods, are you staying busy with any projects yourself?

Great video man! Awesome plecos. Quick question, though. I've just had my first spawn but had a difficult time getting my male out of his cave. I successfully retrieved most of the 70+ fry but was unable to get him out plus several wigglers inside. Any tips or tricks with this? I'd like to get him out so he can start eating again but he's still hiding in his cave and I don't want to risk significant trauma in shaking him out more than I have already. Thanks in advance!

Just about a week ago I got a surprise. I noticed a baby albino bn on the glass of my 40 gallon. I have a pair of them in the tank that I bought over a year ago as juveniles. I had kind given up on any breeding activity. I did not put a cave in the tank, but the male dug out a burrow under a large rock. There looks to be about 35 babies. The tank also has cories and Khuli loaches.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to put into a new aquarium I just planted. It is a 15 gallon extra high!! I have it planted with easy plants... Two different kinds of anubias, a little hair grass, and Amazon swords.I just wondered if a bristlenose would get too big for such a small surface area I also have driftwood, fluval stratum in the new set up. Right now the only thing that's in the tank is 3 albino Cory catfish until I can find some more and decide what else I'm going to put in there! Thanks for a great video. Stay Well.. much love from Portsmouth Virginia ✌️🙏👍
@WildFishTanks
@WildFishTanks 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video Mary. Sounds like a cool tank you have going. Bristlenose and albino Cory cats are compatible however they both are going to compete for valuable bottom space in your tank. Three is good but I would add three more albino cory cats to make a group of six and forgo the pleco since that would be a lot of fish on the bottom. If you really want a pleco I think you could get away with one in addition to the 3 cory cats. Especially since plecos don’t grow super fast. Then add some top and/or mid swimmers. Stay safe up there!

Weird question, but .....does the position of the cave matter? In almost all configurations I've seen online, the caves are placed horizontally. I have a stock tank, so the walls are black. The only view I have is directly from above. I was wondering if one was to place the cave vertically (as opposed to the traditional horizontal position), would the plecos still use them?
