🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Bristly Ridge GRADE 1 SCRAMBLE WITH FULL CAMPING GEAR - Snowdonia Mountain Wild Camp

Snowdonia mountain wild camp. Bristly Ridge scramble with full camping gear and wild camp on Devils Kitchen in the MLD Duomid.
I headed back to Wales for my third attempt at the scramble ascent of Bristly Ridge. Once again I was accompanied by Scott (aka The Lone Explorer) and I honestly couldn’t have done it without him; well, maybe I could have, but not on the bloody route he took us on 😬🫣😆. This route was made even more challenging by the addition of heavy camping rucksacks. Filming the scramble was also very difficult so there’s only limited footage of the easier bits. We then traversed the Glyderau and pitched up for a stunning night amongst the mountains of Snowdonia.
A 9 mile (14.5km) walk with 2700ft (823) of ascent
Drone used is a DJI Mini 3

I'm a big fan of Snowdonia, especially the Ogwen valley and surrounding peaks, so much to go at. More "rugged" than the Lakes and feel like proper mountains. Done Bristly Ridge a few times, but never with a heavy pack - and also not since I started getting vertigo as I got older. (and nearer my own mortality! 😉😉) Great video again, especially the drone footage, and very fitting music. Your enjoyment comes shining through. Nice one.

Hello buddy, I saw how difficult that must of been to climb at the very beginning of this video, i thought wow, he's placed his camera there, gone back down and done it again, it was only after when you mentioned you had company that Scott must have gone on ahead and put your camera there, still a great effort, so I'm not taking away how difficult it still must of been. But the views were worth it ah!?! 👌. With that cracking drone footage, it really did look like an impressive climb you both did, so steep 😲. While watching it, I was wondering if you had a bottle of wine to reward yourself with, to my surprise you didn't 😆. I'm guessing this is a camp of Christmas past with the time of the sunset. The vistas were as good in the morning as they was in the evening, actually better in my opinion as it seemed more atmospheric the next day with the sun trying to get through the thin mist. Another corker Dave, see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤟 🤙.

Many years ago I was scrambling up that gully when a rock I grabbed dislodged and fell, I managed to stay put but a rock the size of a old portable tv went rattling down the gully, fortunately there was nobody below…. Ikve never felt so sick to the stomach dislodging that rock.

Superb video, as always, Dave. I've not been to North Wales often enougn, so you're inspiring some new destinations for me which is great. Although my knackered knees might not be able to cope with that ridge! And once again, I like the calm realism you bring to any route, not sugar coating the risks or over-dramatising them. And kudos to doing the ridge with that pack on though - it's like carrying another person on your back. Although when I turned to the video, I had in mind what you'd said in a recent video about your plan for winter being to do lower camps and my first thought was, the hooligan's doing Bristly Ridge with a full pack and this is his idea of easier winter camps... then I realised this was earlier in the year. I nearly had to reach for a (dark choc!) Bounty to calm the nerves! 🤣 Best wishes for 2023. Look forward to more videos.

Got to disagree with you, Wales has some awesome hiking and grade 1 scrambles. Tryfan,Brisley ridge, The Glyders, Devils kitchen is as good as anything in the Lakes.Crib Goch beats your lake district ridges like sharp edge and striding edge, for the sheer thrill and danger. So if you've never tried it, give it a go then judge it with the lakes. By the way I too love the lakes and spent more time there than Wales, but they both have massive thumbs up areas.

Of course I enjoyed it :) what a beautiful place is Wales..I, like you, was prevented from Tryfan, Bristly Ridge and other unpronounceable summits around "oggy" :) love that, due to weather. How far is Wales to drive to for you compared to say for example the lake district.. I'd love to go to lots of places in Ireland but driving is so so far :) but maybe not compared to the uk ! Some great views on this Dave. Looks a tough challenge. How do cold and windy conditions affect your hands on cold rocks? Although it looks a bit warmer on the video. Great footage from both of you. Just realised if he films your effort and you film his effort. Then swap footage. Makes sense.
