Great photos as a train spotter I well remember walking from Temple Meads to Barrow Road MPD in the late 50s. What amazed me about the photos was the lack of rubbish and graffiti. The area was not very wealthy but there is still an air of things being spick and span - almost Bristol fashion. The contrast to today is very depressing indeed. John

Thank you for posting these historic photos. I was Bristol slum clearance officer 1963-66 by which time most of Barton Hill had been demolished and new blocks of flats were built. Sadly I now realise that whole communities of friends had been broken up when many of them were rehoused in Hartcliffe, Withywood and other estates.

Hello Graham. Unfortunately the flats were not the utopia they promised. Regards Dave.

Excellent photos. I went to Technical school in Barton Hill between 1961 & 64. Brought back a lot of memories. I'm not sure though that the photos of the Feeder and especially Netham lock are in Barton Hill.

Hello Mike. The Feeder is the southern boundary of Barton Hill. Regards Dave.

Am amazing collection of pictures. Thanks for sharing! I wonder if you have any pictures of the infants/junior school on Queen Ann Road in the 60s, 70s, and 80s? I've looked many times, but I cannot find a single picture...

Lovely to see but always sadness me whenever I see images of this from any uk city, rows of small Victorian houses ( that could mostly have been renovated and still popular today) flattened to make way for soulless tower blocks, glad i didn’t live through it as i would have hated it.
