Great news that you picked up a top condition OG of Mr Wonderful. That Bristol fair looks to be very well stocked and busy with punters - in my book the fairs are by far the beat way to pick up pre-loved vinyl. Andover is my home town and I lived there until the late '90's. I had reason to meet Reg Ball(Presley) on a few occasions - he continued to live in the town right up to the time he passed away. He was certainly quite a character. In his later years he was very interested in 'crop circles' and liked to talk about them.

In BRIGHTON in Nov 1989 i struck GOLD GOLD GOLD, and found an orig Stereo pressing from Australia from Connie Francis[AWARD WINNING MOTION PICTURE HITS -with original playback that was recorded in Rome, Italy], knowing that the master session tapes were lost and still are ,i bought it for 12 pounds [which was extremely cheap] it had a deep scratch on the last track unfortunately but the rest was M-] 8 years later I was contacted by Bear Family could i lend the lp for them to master as they could not locate either the album master or the session masters, so i sent it to them via registered post..they mastered it as well as can be and they included in the last tracks on CF 2nd set of 5 cd's from 1960-April/1962. i was sent in response the 2 5cd sets for free. i got the lp sent back ok. A few years later i found a M/M STEREO SAME LP. FOR 10 pounds. Before i entered the fair i asked myself would i find the Australian LP' wo and behold i did.

Great video Martin. I agree I’ve got bargains galore at fairs.Those sellers are there to sell, & most of them don’t have any overheads. If I’m going to buy three records at one stall, but one of the records is cheaper on another stall, I’m just honest & say ‘That blokes got this record but a bit cheaper, but if you do me a deal I’ll buy it off you’, they will always do you a deal. Yeah The Troggs catalogue is notorious for missing tracks, I’ve bought represses where tracks are re-recorded, I think they have loads of legal contractual nightmares with their back catalogue.
@martinthemartianvinyl Жыл бұрын
Yep I won’t be making that mistake again any time soon. But I don’t try to be that annoying little guy trying to get things cheaper just for the sake of it, if you know what I mean. If it’s a good quality record at what its meant to cost then I’m happy to buy it.

@@martinthemartianvinyl totally agree. I just say what’s your best price?, then everyone’s happy.

Hoping there is another record fair somewhere in my area soon. Its my number one place to find rare stuff. Only been to one this year.

I go to shows here every couple of months. They are usually in a hotel ballroom but nothing this immense. I would need a full day in Bristol. I have all the albums you showed minus the Fleetwood Mac and The Troggs. I am not a collector of 7" singles but do enjoy seeing them shown in the vinyl community. ✌
@martinthemartianvinyl Жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t think I’m going to go down that rabbit hole of 7 inches, you need to get some old school Fleetwood Mac in your life.

@@martinthemartianvinyl I actually have a double album compilation from /71 called Black Magic Woman with Peter Green. ✌️
@martinthemartianvinyl Жыл бұрын
@@MGKBOSTON nice! I have few of their comps as I love everything Peter green touches, but I’m still after their comp on the blue horizon label ‘the pious bird of a good omen’, it has most of their singles such as ‘albatross’, ‘black magic woman’ and ‘need your love so bad’ before they started making LP’s. It’s not too hard to find but it’s one of the things again I want it but it has been on a good grading that I’m happy to pay for.

I bought the Fleetwood Mac when it first came out and I really loved Peter Green's playing akthough this one is largely based on the slide guitar of Elmore James. The thing is that once I got into blues from records like this and of course The Stones , Animals etc I went onto buy the original blues artists which lots of people did resulting in amazing things like John Lee Hooker having a top 20 single. I am glad you enjoyed the record fair and you look to have got some really good stuff. I want the Troggs album. Time will tell if I find it.

Oh yes!!! When you look into what inspires some of the greats, you are on a crazy train down to the blues.

Hey Martin. No admission charge to get in?? Amazing. (Okay my record fair only costs $2 but still) Glad you got some grails, especially that FM, which is really hard to find here and the Japanese ZZ. Rick Gretch was Family’s bass player at the time. Funny Troggs story. Cheers mate.

Very good indeed Martin. Looked a great fair that one, plenty of stock, nice and spacious - what more do you want? Well done on the finds 🙂 True story: I once found a very tidy UK 1st Blind Faith for £2.99 in a charity shop. I didn't buy it as was too embarrassed to take it to the elderly lady at the counter.
@martinthemartianvinyl Жыл бұрын
I know right! I felt really uncomfortable buying it at the fair. For £2.99!!! I wouldn’t be embarrassed I would have this stupid grin on my face knowing I got a steal of a deal. That old lady can frown at me all day for that price 😂

Congrats on the Mac and Nazareth albums. Great stuff. As far as ZZ top goes, the best pressings are the original US pressings. After decades of collecting, i have formed a rather large distaste for Japanese pressings. They are a bunch of thin sounding hype.
@martinthemartianvinyl Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I can’t weigh in too much about Japanese pressings as this was my first one along with the Creedence record. I would love to get my hands on a copy of a original first US press, as I love to get the record from the country the band is from. All I can say is that my copy sounds very good, it’s on the ‘London’ label, maybe it’s more about the label company not the country it’s from??? I don’t really know but I’ll definitely keep hold of this one until I find a US original copy. I also want their first album also 😅 👍 👍 👍
