N601FE is also the original MD-11 prototype (the first MD-11 ever built). Thanks to FedEx maintenance's TLC she has flown for more than 30 years with hardly any problems. In contrast, B-16111 is the shortest-lived MD-11 ever, delivered in 1998 and scrapped in 2014 after just 16.3 years of service, and quite a few A340-500/600 were scrapped despite being only 10-15 years old.

I jump seated on this very MD-11 when it was brand new. Boston to Memphis TN. It is still flying 30 years later.

Very first MD 11,N601FE was delivered to FedEx in 1991.
