Hats off to the Glue Crew! Good job, interesting video!

We all know that Lou does most of the talking, but you done a right nice job, Ken. Would like to see the milling after the epoxy/resin sets as well, but this video came together quite well. Nice to meet the "glue crew". Seems like a great group of folks. Thanks for explaining the process.?

I build furniture for a hobby and i made laminate supports for a wall mounted night stand set. 9 strips red oak and brazilian cherry to show some contrast. Used wood glue. The supports were approx 22" long x 3/4x3/4. After attaching them to the front end of the night stand and down to vertical legs against the wall i sat on the top. 225 lbs and it did not break the supports or rip from the wall.

Glue People stick together. Nice demo, no panic, no rushing, no tripping over each other. A great way to use up the off cuts too.

It's great to see young people getting involved in wooden boat building. I always referred to Ken as "Silent Bob", but it's cool to see he has a voice and this is an excellent video.

I've become very interested in diy boat building over the last year. I'm deciding whether or not to attempt it myself now that I'm in my 50's. I think your method of building deck beams is genius. I've noticed on several sailing channels people laminating wood masts tend to use 2" boards for anything bigger than a dinghy. Do you think laminating much thinner boards would be viable or would it be too heavy? It also seems that you would be relegated to painting the mast rather than using varnish especially if you use fiberglass cloth like you did on the deck beams.

get much spring back? ever think about using steel plates between the clamp and the glue up? it would spread clamping pressure to flatten cupped wood pieces.

Why use thickened glue as well as thinner glue? Does the thin not 'gap fill' as well? What is the open time of the glue once mixed? Nice vid.

What is the timber that you're using there? The two you mentioned weren't particularly impressive types, so not too hard to top IMO :-)

I really love to surf, life made me forget how much for a long time. The problem is my closest beach is 2 hours and a 4 wheel drive track to get there. Then id need to get permits.....There has to be another way........what if i buy a sailing boat and sail down the coast to this point break iv found.....guess ill need to learn how to sail...*started watching sailing videos.......sailing is more interesting than i thought, man I love boats, I have 7 powerboats after all I think I know a lot about boats but maybe I could learn a few nautical terms so I can learn even more, maybe I could build a boat.....*watches bristol shipwrights........ok......I dont know jack lol.....................(Something thats changing fast listening to you,thankyou for your amazing chanel and patience.....)

@thomasarussellsr3 жыл бұрын
So, who's job is it to chip the excess glue off the clamps and moulds? Do you oil/wax the clamps before each glue up?
@billstevens37963 жыл бұрын
Here, you lost this... "o"
@jimurrata67853 жыл бұрын
@@thomasarussellsr PAM cooking spray works ok on clamp threads. Furniture polish is going to have silicone, and you don't want any of that in your shop. Paste wax is too tedious for a LOT of clamps. For bar clamps I find a wire wheel in a bench grinder is fastest for me to clean them off.

There's a better glue to use for laminating timber than epoxy. There's a guy building spars in Bristol Docks England would tell you the same. it's the purple muck BS1088 marine ply is glued together with, one very well trade name is 'Cascophen', it's a resorcinol/phenol/formaldehyde glue. Longer pot life, shelf life and cheaper and less concerned with ambient temperatures when working with it. But don't take my word for it, I've only been building boats for 45 years, do your own research, you'll see I'm right.
