Hi guys, First of all, ignore the negativity from trolls, some people are just born miserable. Secondly, I'm originally from Widnes, on the banks of the Mersey, where i grew up, on, in, and around boats, and as I'm sure you'll know, boating gets into your blood. I love your show, it is the week's highlight for me. I miss boating and your show takes me back to some happy memories. Anyhow, keep up the good work, keep the laughs coming, and let's watch your various boating projects bloom. Good luck guys, all my best wishes going forward .

@@ShipHappensUK That is totally terrible to read, I think he does a great job, I think the few idiots making bad comments don't add up to all the people making nice comments or giving their best suggestions and loads of people who watch but don't comment. Sometimes I do wonder why you 2 are doing things a certain way, but learned by watching your channel you do everything with a plan. And seeing you creating the deck beams no just proves you are going forward with steady steps .. While you were doing the front stringers and stuff and I saw the tops of the planks it scared me, but that's also proved to be repairable .. its soo much fun seeing you 2 work, making fun of each other and still get all that work done. Its a total inspiration.

A suggestion from the extreme most cautious person following your project. I would take that beam out to Sarinda and find a way to thread it through the hull at the widest beam and lift it up against the deck. We know there will be sag in the existing deck beam - so there won't be a perfect match. But just for peace of mind given the great cost of both materials and labor - I would want to make that field check to confirm that the new deck beams match up with what Sarinda's original builders had in mind. 👍

You are doing the correct method which I did not use. I got two methods on is using African mahogany solid planks and cut the radius only on the top beam. But I have also used very long Balu 10x10 6 m planks that are straight and I found that I could brace it in the center sufficient to make the radius. Good luck with your method

That looks great and reminds me of when I laminated my cabin top beams. As far as finishing (paint/varnish) the beams goes, it is much easier to paint/varnish them before you install them. A suggestion to improve mold release as you make more beams. Hair spray is polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is a very good water soluble release agent. So buy a few cans of cheap hair spray and spray the mold down between parts. Or you can just buy a jug of PVA and spray it on. One other suggestion is to use a notched trowel when you put the epoxy on. That will give a more uniform layer of epoxy and will also save on epoxy.

You could probably reduce the spring back when remove the lamination from the form is you left it a couple of days before removal. I used to laminate archery bow limbs and despite the epoxy being hard after overnight it definitely has not achieved its full cure which would be more like 48 hours at 20c. Most high strength lams are cured at 60degC for 8 to 12 hours and the cure times get exponentially longer as the temp reduces. You are doing a fantastic job and all the glue lam parts you are making are orders of magnitude stronger than the the originals.--- Graeme

"Will it come off the form?" Course it will Malcom. You even made it look like you knew what you were doing, lol. Another excellent piece of work and video, well done again you guys.

Great work! I have owned several boats. One of my boats was like a money hole in the water! The days of BIG KZbin payouts are long long gone. Kudos to you both.
