Here’s some background on Kep1er since everyone’s only talking about GOT 😅 The group was formed as the result of a reality show in Korea called Girls Planet 999. It started with 99 girls, 33 each from Korea, Japan, and China. There were various performances, challenges, etc which led to the elimination of girls until the top 9 were voted and named Kep1er. The final line up came out as 6 Koreans, 2 Japanese, and 1 Chinese with a bit of controversy due to the weight of Korean votes vs international. (Koreans voted counted for 50% of the vote while the rest of the world counted for the other half which meant Koreans had a strong hand in building this lineup which came out quite heavily Korean.) The girl you kept mentioning is Heuning Bahiyyah (Korean-American mixed)had controversy surrounding her since her brother is in TXT (the group from the same label as BTS). However, it came out how it came and I gotta say I’m super in love with this comeback. when it comes to SM song, don't expect any big drop like hybe or yg does. when u focus on their instrumental it would feel weird to listen. Try to focus more on their vocals, you would enjoy the song entirely. :) what u can expect from SM song is their bridge

I think this is the problem with newer kpop stans. This generation is used to that kind of music and style that they fail to appreciate any other sound.

the chorale and the classical music we all hear at the background is in minor key. And because of the many sharp and flats happening in the background, people might find it scary, sad, unsettling, or even melodically messing up with the whole song. to be honest, i think SM did that just to flex that even if there were many sharps and flats in the background, the girls can still sing on tune LMAO. Kidding aside, SM is really experimental for doing such song. Also, by looking at how they structure aespa and NCT’s songs, you can really see that SM doesn’t follow the sound or trend of the popular music. instead, they try to experiment outside the music the current generation is accustomed to listening. That’s why when baekhyun’s candy dropped i had to double check it again if this is really an sm produced song because it is so refreshing to hear them making a song that is so in with the loop.. something that’s not diversely structured/hard to digest in one listening (by the general public) like nct’s songs.
