Free Webinar with Brit Marling hosted by Candice Antoinette - © Sundance Institute
"As creators, we can continue to practice the art and craft of writing to help us tell our stories during these unprecedented times. Join us for a very special conversation with award-winning writer, actress, and producer Brit Marling (SOUND OF MY VOICE, ANOTHER EARTH, THE OA). Through an exploration of her work as co-creator, writer, and star of the Netflix series, THE OA, Brit will share her advice on the art of acting, writing, and collaboration. We'll dive into writing compelling characters and building their story worlds, discuss her prep and rehearsal process as an actress, and learn how she's cultivated rich, collaborative relationships along the way."

I cancelled Netflix because they cancelled The OA (among other shows I love). Netflix releases half written stories so it doesn't deserve my money. My friends have cancelled Netflix as well. We moved to other streaming services like Hulu, Disney+ and Amazon Prime. If you are a true fan of the OA and also tired of Netflix cancelling shows without giving them a proper ending please cancel Netflix and move to different streaming services even if its just for 8 months. When cancelling Netflix and they survey you why you are cancelling say Other and write in THE OA WAS CANCELLED.

Most impactful moment for me of the two seasons of the OA is the moment the OA is speaking with Elodie and Elodie explains how Hap will always be a part of OA’s timeline. This is the hardest thing the OA would have to accept of the seasons that are out and I would argue one of the hardest things people have to accept in their lives. How do you interact with your bullies, abusers, etc. How do you acknowledge their behavior as unacceptable while trying to find grace and peace with your past? How do you take on that new part of you that came from your interaction with them and show that new part of you love? I think a lot of us will always have to work at this.

Brit says something very important to the American perspective in general. I've been saying this for a while and she pointed it out herself. We do not understand women as they are. We don't even know how to reference them properly because the distortion has renderer inside everyones mind, including women themselves. Most people have a false narrative or/perspective of what women are in this world, what makes the strong, what they think, how nature manifests inside of them, and why things happen the way they do. Ruminate on things you do not understand inside yourself, if you seek them from the outside world as it was and is, it will only lead you towards a loop with no insight.

This is one of the most inspiring interviews I've ever seen in my entire life (along with all the other Brit Marling interviews I've been watching lately). Such good questions were asked and such good answers were provided. This is life-changing and inspirational for me. I'm 19 and I'm interested in songwriting, screenwriting, and all sorts of other creative endeavors. I have been feeling this deep pressure to become famous immediately and I feel discouraged and like I'm loosing the race when I see people my age or younger being really good at their craft and/or getting famous. But then I get mad at myself for feeling jealous. I don't even want to be famous. I want to be successful and happy and proud of my work. I want to connect with like-minded creatives. I want to learn and grow at my own pace. I've been so devoted to working by myself and not being vulnerable around other people and stepping out of my comfort zone after being betrayed by someone who I considered to be my best friend. Then the pandemic happened, which gave me the excuse to be by myself all the time. Then I got a third shift job so that I'm alone for even longer. Brit talks a lot about the importance of community and collaboration. Survival of the most collaborative rather than survival of the fittest really hit me when Brit said that around 19:38. I shouldn't be isolating myself. I should be searching for people like me. I'll hopefully go to in-person college soon and find my people. I really appreciate every second of this video, but particularly Brit's advice on finding and keeping collaborators in response to the amazing question asked at 45:23. Thank you so much for this awesome interview!!!

Great conversation! Very interesting. - However, what would take this to the next level is if you’re make sure that the sound is on point. When Brit speaks, her voice is quite muffled and I have to turn the volume up. However when the interviewer speaks it’s not muffled, and the sound gets quite loud and squeaky (not saying she hs a squeaky voice, it’s the volume that make it come across as squeaky, to me at least) and it makeup the listener experience less pleasant. - Just a heads up. Anyways, keep up the growing work. 😊

Curious about the idea related to one of the comments here of Britt having a cult like following. Does anyone else get that impression? Could it be intentional? I appreciate her and she does have a very alluring, attractive, and wise aura to her. But I think the possibility of the cult like obsession with her and the OA should be addressed.

OA wasn't about the cult. It was cult in making of BM (her 2-3 other projects are more or less same). OA fans are more than fans. They are fanatics. May be Netflix noticed that and cancelled it

You think so!? Interesting one. Yes, ‘Sound of My Voice’ could be said so, specially considering the fact that it was supposed be the first in a trilogy. Albeit I don't get that in ‘Another Earth’ ‘I Origins’ or ‘The East’ at all. I think it's just that her discernment of Sci-Fi adheres to the issues of anarchy, dimensional reality, and some sort of a singularity hypothesis, which is different from the conventional ideas but it still is a futuristic take on Sci-Fi; just different. If the reason you think about the show being cancelled comes to be true, it'd definitely be an infringement on artistic ingenuity on their part. It's sad :(
@shekhargarhwal9516

@@argentée107.8u Yeh..infringement on artistic ingenuity but on a personal level I am glad, it got canceled. I explored her movies very early, tracked her till OA-II.. Once OA-II completed, with her being an actress in another universe, it just clicked to me, all her previous projects were built up for that moment. Then, I realized, why fans of this show r fanatics. My theory is, sometimes, just see fans to the story they are inspired by. No doubt, creative writing is emotional manipulation and many writers just talk about themselves in their fiction but not like her. There r many existential crisis stories are out there but no one is that personal. Like writers r projecting themselves as babas/gurus in their fiction. One of the crazy fans fought with Jason Isaac that she is goddess, some avtar. A movie called midsommer (lil pretentious) or Search Party (especially season 5) can open some doors.

@@leahklatt3873 I like Marvel movies but when I see fans going crazy when Captain America says " Avengers,assemble", there I remember Uncle Scorsese. Same, I like Another Earth, I origin, OA-I then OA-II sumed it up for me. No matter how much marvel tries to show Superheros as humane/flawed, they are going to save the planet ultimately. BM is doing in more sophisticated way for the self-diagnosed intellectuals who r as dumb as Marvel fanatics who hate diagnosis..

She often uses the word delicious in weird places outside of the context of food, because her vegan body/mind is starved of many critical nutrients biologically required for optimal human health. Hating on carnivores/omnivores is just biologically unfounded, and oddly neurotic. I guess that all computes however, since vegan neurons have suffered heavy damage due to the persistent lack of critical nutrients.
