With an open sandwich the bread is on the bottom and you eat it with a knife and fork as they usually have some sort of gravy or sauce on them. It's a warm comfort food. Also, in the US when you eat out at a restaurant you can ask for food with or without most things. So if you don't like mustard just ask for it without. No one bats an eye. I know in some places, like Japan, you have to take food the way the cook/chef made it. Here, pretty much anything goes, within reason. No one gets offended. For green chili...it comes in mild, medium, or hot. If you don't like hot but want the flavor then ask for mild. I lived in New Mexico for 30 years. Green chili is ADDICTIVE!! I miss it. The Cronut takes "a day to mix the dough, a day to let it rise and incorporate the butter, and a day to shape and bake it."

Meat that is shaped in a round will have a tendency to curl up like pepperoni when cooked. When crabs molt they have a soft shell which can be eaten. You have to clean it by snipping off the mouth and eyes, removing the gills inside and taking off the apron (some people leave it) then you rinse it and toss in seasoned flour, then pan fry it. I personally won't eat them. But many love them.

Just went home to Michigan and before the hot dog stand closed for the season, I got myself come sauce to hold me over for a little while. It’s not the same outside of Michigan. I will say I was disappointed that Illinois was not the Italian Beef sandwich, which I just got today at the same establishment as the chocolate cake shake, Portillo’s. I mean they wrote a TV series about an Italian Beef shop (The Bear).

thanks lav..i'm a baltimore guy...crabs are/were the big attraction in our area (CHESAPEAKE BAY) perspective / in 1965 a crab feast costs 10 dollars // 6 years ago a dozen large crabs cost 50 dollars // now a dozen large crabs cost 70-80 dollars...i don.t buy them anymore..//

Pike Place isn't just a fish market. There's all kinds of fresh food stands in the market (veg, fruit, nuts, butchers, etc etc), and also some restaurants. My favorite is Pike Place Chowder, which makes four different kinds of clam chowder. Bangin'.

Catfish tastes like catfish. There is no fish being served in the UK to compare it to.....indeed, it tastes like no other fish to be found in the USA. It's like boiled peanuts.....it's a very singular flavor. THE END This is coming from a 59-year-old man from Mississippi. I'd KILL for a plate of catfish & cornbread right now, with a bowl of banana pudding for dessert..!!!

Catfish. Fish and Chips, right? But instead of chips, sweet potato fries. Got it? Now catfish and sweet potato fries vs. Proper fish and chips. That's about how different they are. If you can eat fish fingers or fish and chips, you can eat fried catfish. I recommend fried catfish and Hush Puppies (round corn fritters - little balls of fried spiced corn batter).

Philly roast pork sandwiches don't mess around. Come for the cheesesteak, stay for the roast pork. Edit: Plantains are less sweet than banana and also more starchy. They can kinda fry up more like a potato than a banana.

agreed, I've lived in va for my whole life, half in the mountains and then half in the tidewater. people still like and eat oysters in the rest of the state, but there's more of a culture around them in the tidewater for sure

Well, they are hot, but not competition hot. They put way too much on those burgers, a small spoonful is plenty. The scoop they put on there would make your next bathroom experience very unpleasant.

In my limited experience, plantains are larger than bananas but more starchy, edging into potato-like territory. Very versatile and tasty. But since I live in Canada, I'm probably not the best spokesperson.

Catfish tastes less salty then either cod or haddock as it is actually a freshwater fish. Catfish live in the many rivers and lakes in the southeast.

I think when she said "green chile burger" you heard "jalapeno burger", and it's not the same thing. Green chiles are smoky and sweet and a little spicy but nowhere near a "hot pepper"

Well, you’re wrong there. These are Hatch green chiles and they can be very hot. The amount they put on those burgers was too much, I’d have to scrape off 3/4 of it off just so I could eat it and I’d still be sweating. Hatch chiles are typically barrel roasted and the smell is amazing.
