Let me explain. "Lainhuutotodistus" is a certificate of "lainhuudatus". This "lainhuuto" is originally a loan translation of Swedish word "uppbud" (a proclamation), as shown in the original Swedish and the Finnish translation of the Civil Code of 1734. The the Civil Code of 1734 required that changes of property ownership be publicly announced at the town hall on three Mondays four weeks apart from each other before the change became final in the eyes of the law. And although the bureaucratic practice has changed today, the current name of this process of registering property ownership still refers to the public proclamation that was announced by shouting. And this law is still valid, but nowadays, the change of ownership of real estate or land property is publicly announced online in the municipality's archives instead of shouting.

Almost. During the Swedish rule legal decisions made at the landsting (maakäräjät) became legally binding, when they were made public by shouting it out to the public participating. That is specifically where the term comes from.

Concerning lainhuutotodistus, Aleksi either didn't research it properly or he wasn't aware of history. in the olden days, there was a person called a town crier. The responsibility of a town crier was to announce new ordinances or laws, or other legal proceedings. The more accurate translation of lainhuutotodistus would be a declaration of a legal proceeding/judgement.

@Aurinkohelmi - Hi there! When it comes to pronouncing Finnish words, nothing could be easier. As you say, Finnish words are pronounced exactly as written and every time in the same way. Also, the stress is ALWAYS on the first syllable no matter how long a word is, even super long compound words. Once you remember this, your Finnish pronunciation will sound so much better. If a vowel is written double, it is pronounced long. If a consonant is written double, same thing. All diphthongs are pronounced letter by letter. There is only one single exception to the general rule of pronouncing words and that is the combination of n and g as in the words kangas (cloth) or kaupungin (genitive mode of kaupunki (town). In cases like these, the letters n+g are pronounced together as one sound, as in sing, ring, long, thing... Quite a few years ago, in the Pisa tests, Finnish pupils were best at reading. Their success is explained by the above Finnish pronunciation rules. 📚📖📕📘

I think a much better example would have been huutokauppa, as in an auction. It's literal translation is "shout trading/business deal" or something like that. You know, shouting your bids to buy a thing which is exactly what an auction is :D

Huuto, I would guess it comes from word huudatus (=exclamation), that means bringing something to the public. An old word. I'd guess yelling part comes from the old times ( when there were no communication devices), when manifestos have been yelled to the public by announcer. Nowadays we do have Joulurauhan Julistus, manifesto of Christmas Peace, every year hold at Turku.

The video actually got the meaning of "mukiinmenevä" quite wrong. The first element of the compound is indeed "mukiin", but in this case it is actually the illative plural of the archaic word "muka", which is no longer in use in finnish as an independent word (though many derivatives of it are). Muka used to mean shape manner and template. The mug aspect of "mukiinmenevä" is only a later misunderstanding of the compound.

Most of the Finnish language is very literal. Like computer = tietokone. Tieto = knowledge, kone = machine. Or buss = linja-auto. Linja = line, auto = car. And you say letter as you write them, no need for checking where in the word the letter are etc. I love it ❤

Of course english speakers find Swedish and German easier to learn than Finnish, Swedish, English and German are all Germanic languages, so they're all part of the same "family" of languages, whereas Finnish is a Finno-Ugric language

I think it is lainHUUTOtodistus (huuto=scream,cry or yell) because it was used to be announced, quite literally, in a loud voice so that it was known to the public as well. And of course you got the certificate so that you could have evidence that this actually happened. No idea is this the reason though, just a finn's speculative guess.

I think you are right, b I think laws and important magistrate decisions were literally read on sundays from church chair to the people, so even the people who could not read would know about them and appeal if needed. A decision would not have the legitimaticy of law until some time after it was announced to the people.

Mitä kuuluu or how are you actually usually means we want to hear how is your life at the moment. Or you can just answer hyvää = good. So yo is not equivalent to mitä kuuluu.

Well, in the original video it was translated into English "What are you hearing". I would say a better translation (and also literally more accurate) would be What is there to hear? We're not asking what the other person hears, we want to hear the öatest news ourselves.

Awfully bad finnish skills with this "teacher". Lainhuuto mean legal claim. Huuto can mean announcement or banns, not just scream, And maitojuna ain't just a train but refer to time when busses had more than just passenger service, Also called as mixed train as they had passengers and cargo with them. Milk train was/is the earliest buss/train as milk is collected to dairy in the early hours. And Huutokauppa mean auction, so if you make 'huuto'' in an auction huuto translates as bid.
