People making these videos about work and life in Denmark, seem to forget our long history. Denmark didn't become this well functioning Welfare state overnight. The democracy in Denmark began back in the first half of 1800. Before that, we've had a fair share of decent kings. We've never been completely invaded and oppressed by a foreign enemy. We've had creedy kings, but not at all like some of the dictators we see today and recent decades. We've never had civil wars that completely destroyed us. We've had our wars with our neighbours Sweden, England and Germany, however those already lay way back in time or they were smaller, very local wars, like in Southern Jutland. We were invaded by Germany doing the 2 world war, however the war was mostly felt in Copenhagen and the bigger cities and for most Danes, daily life continued with little disruption, thanks to our king and government cooperation with the Germans for most part. Both my grandparents were kids during this time and from the stories they've told, they really didn't feel much disturbance from the german invaders. My grandfather, who was 10-15 years old during that time and lived in Northern Jutland, even told stories about how he and his friends played football with german soldiers 🤷‍♀️ What I'm trying to say, is that Danes, because of our country's somewhat peaceful recent history, we have been a resourceful people and have had strength to fight for better conditions in work and life. In the late 1800's, the first work union was formed and more followed as years passed with the industrialisation. For the past 150 years, people have fought and shed blood, sweat and tears for better work conditions and pay. We've been able to do this, because we are resourceful - because we haven't been completely crushed by oppressing governments, civil wars or foreign forces, but lived pretty peacefully, with room to grow, for the past couple of hundred years. It not something amazing and extraordinary, current conditions in Denmark, is an example of what a nation can do, when it is given time and peace to grow slowly 😉🇩🇰

I'm from Gävle and the goat is still up! As for visiting Sweden I would recommended going in summer, winter in Sweden is beautiful but I feel like you would miss much of swedens natural beauty due to the few sun hours we get in winter time

You may find alot of the things talked about at an IKEA near you. It may not be entirely like homemade, but it will give you a feel for what it is. I don't know how it is abroad but here i Sweden they always have Julbord in the IKEA-restaurant.
