My husband was a truck driver for over 40 years and the main reason they have accidents is because of vehicles pulling out in front of them or making a turn in front of them without signaling. They don't realize that these trucks can't stop on a dime because they are usually loaded with a total weight of 80,000 pounds. Most passenger cars don't realize this. They need to be educated on this fact. I'm glad to say that my spouse has drove over 30 million miles and never had a chargeable accident.

I've had that happen going 75 miles per hour and a Truck driver pulled over while I was beside them so it's the other way too. luckily I was watching and almost ran off the road to save myself and my passengers. Everyone needs to watch not just passenger cars. I knew some truck drivers growing up and they always said I'm bigger and I will run them of the road is I want too. Hopefully they don't think like that anymore.

As truck drivers in the US, we can only drive so many hours a day. A lot of the accidents come from people that don’t know how to drive on a daily basis. I get cut off at least four times a day so most of the accidents come from people driving crazy there’s less accidents from truck drivers then there are Cars and truck pick up and when a truck does crash a lot of times it caused by the car

What blows my mind is how many truck rest stop lots have had to be added on all the interstates since the USA started tracking trucker breaks by computer/gps. I’ve traveled on interstates my entire life, many decades, and you used to hardly ever seeing trucks resting. I’m glad steps were taken so you aren’t encouraged to keep driving anymore. (For those who don’t know many truckers are paid by mile driven.) I know being forced to take breaks when a big chunk of “driving” hours was stuck in a traffic jam but hopefully overall it’s a better lifestyle.

To be honest, there is still not enough truck parking and Iowa. They seems like they have a rest area every 40 miles which I think is a grand idea because as a truck driver, we push right down to the last second that we have to stop because if we don’t a lot, these guys won’t ever make money enough to support the families, there’s just not enough truckstops not enough rest areas and gas stations. Don’t even have any workforce to eat. We can’t even pull into restaurants to get anything to eat. They want to service these unhealthy trash food. We need more cafés and truckstops not McDonald’s truckstops not IHOP actual café I guess you could put a IHH hopper a Denny’s something like that but there’s just not enough healthy food force out here, not enough rest areas that’s why you see a lot of guys parking on the shoulders and on on ramps and off ramps, which is dangerous

I grew up in Iowa. One winter, my car spun out on the ice. As I faced the road behind me, a semi truck (big lorry) was heading straight for me. Luckily, my car continued to spin and I stopped on the verge. It took me several minutes before my knees were strong enough to start driving again.

My first thought as a Wisconsinite was “I wonder if 41 is on this list.” In the winter the northern Oshkosh to Appleton section of 41 can become super icy and windy. Every couple years there is a large pile up on 41. The sad part is that almost all of those pile ups are caused by one person driving too fast for conditions. Also if you are ever in a car pile up, NEVER get out of your car unless it is on fire. Most people die in pile ups because they leave their vehicle and are struck by another oncoming car.

If you see a highway that has three numbers, it's usually considered an auxiliary route for a 2-numbered highway with a similar number. If you ever find yourself in Michigan (USA) take a chance to be driven on I-696 (an auxiliary highway to I-96). In 2020 we both lost our job and I had to move in with him because I couldn't afford my apt anymore. Four months later, my car died and I thought it would be irresponsible to buy a new car when I didn't have a job, so I didn't drive for just over 3 years. When I was finally able to get another car, I was actually scared to start driving again. I've been "behind the wheel" for over a year now, but I still haven't used the interstate in this car. Seeing these stats I just think "do I REALLY need to go anywhere, though?" lol

commutes to work depend on the person. As an example there are many people who commute from Chicago, in Illinois, to Milwaukee Wisconsin. This is an average drive of 2hrs give or take how fast you go and whether a person is actually driving the speed limit. Though most people who only commute from the nearby sub-burbs aren't usually more than 1 hr away.

For a truck driver to legally drive from San Diego to Boston takes SIX days with mandatory breaks, meals, and sleep stops monitored by computer software... It took me one and a half hours to drive to work, a long commute in the Texas panhandle... I lost three hours every workday, but since I worked at a power generating plant, I worked four days per week ten hours a day, not five...

Former truck driver. A LOT of problems between trucks and cars that I noticed: people drive differently around big trucks and they’re unpredictable (nice way of saying stupid and careless). I was never involved, but I’ve seen my fair share of car parts under an 80,000 pound truck.

At 12:49 you mentioned you speed up to pass trucks, Dude, I do the same thing. As a matter of fact, my sister was killed by a 5,000 Lb bale of hay that fell off a truck and smashed her car and killed her and her service dog😭!!! All because the driver didn't secure his load correctly😠!!!!!!!! Anyway, I do drive on I-80 and I-5 since I live in Northern California.

As someone who used to drive truck and now drives taxi in Detroit Michigan I can a test to the validity of those list. Also freeways in Detroit are posted at 55 mph in most to the densely populated areas, yet everyone drive at 70 mph or higher raising the numbers for I 75 higher, as large parts of it were under construction in the Detroit metro area in 2019. One section of I 75 is still a construction zone near the Gordie Howe International Bridge is being constructed.

Hey Lew! Maybe you recognize the name because i watch all your video's {I actually wake up, get coffee and sit down to watch your video's}. You have mentioned the amount of snow you get in the UK and are surprised by some of the video's you see of the US. I live in Greeley, Colorado and cold and snow during the winter is normal. But if you were to watch a video of Trail Ridge Road snowfall in Colorado you would get an idea of what the high country of Colorado is like during the winter. The road is already closed and won't open until the spring due to the amount of snow that accumulates up there. it's about an hour from my home.

I was driving through Atlanta during evening rush hour. Not being from Atlanta it was scary. In fact I had an anxiety attack and had to get off the interstate and get a hotel for the night. It was nuts. And people are driving in not safe ways more than ever.

In Canada the highest fatality rates would be from Quebec City, QC to Windsor, ON (right across the River from Detroit). It is numbered 401 thru’ Ontario. Another route with frequent accidents is Alberta’s QE2 (Queen Elizabeth II) Hwy which is a 260 km freeway stretching from North Calgary to South Edmonton. This freeway is the main transportation route for about 70% of that province’s population. Finally, in British Columbia, there are the Coquihalla-Trans Canada Freeways connecting Kamloops & Kelowna with Vancouver. Discovery Channel has a program called “Highway Thru Hell” which highlights the frequent accidents along those motorways.

Been on several of those highways (and lived to tell the tale). I-35 through DFW and Austin is a total nightmare. The traffic is terrible. I drove I-35 to work and my average trip each way was an hour and fifteen minutes. I've had days where it took over 4 hours one way. And I think the average speed on I-20 is 100 mph, lol/

I don't know if you noticed, our east-west interstates are even numbered (usually ending with a "0") and north-south are odd numbered (usually ending with a"5").

Okay so commute to work in the US depends heavily on where you live. If you live in Southern California, you can be commuting 2+ hours each way due to traffic. I live in a very small town in Northern California. My commute is about 7 minutes (10 during tourist season).

The interstate systems was being built a year before I was born in 1956. So, growing up taking across country trips, we saw a lot of the interstate highways being built.

I’ve had commutes from less than a mile, to 60 minutes. It’s common for a commute to be 30-90 minutes on average. I bet is NYC and LA it’s probably more.

Lol That might get you from El PasoTexas to Houston with another 2 hours to get to Louisiana. Lol When I lived in Houston it would take me an hour to get to work, when I lived in Las Vegas it might take 30 to 45 minutes. I live in Lubbock TX now and it takes me 20 to 30 minutes but we have a spread out city.

In Chicago area it’s not unheard of to commute 90 minutes each way. It’s considered a good commute if you are 30 minutes or less……but in snow a 30 minute commute often turns into 3-4 hours….and Chicago area is so flat there is an issue with sunset in the late fall and winter and early spring on East West commutes. The sun is blinding and makes even 30 minutes pretty unbearable. My partner’s longest commute was 90 minutes and $17.80 in tolls per day. That was horrendous and pricey.

When I was a kid I remember seeing an accident where the car, a big car, probably a Cadillac had been squished between 2 trucks like an accordion. I was about 5 or 6 years old at the time I didn't know all the different car makes and models. It is something that has stayed with me for 60 years. I think it was the worst accident I have ever seen.😱

I was passing a truck one time during very windy weather. The truck started tipping over, and would’ve landed on my car had the driver not been able to correct very quickly.

On the interstates, you can go faster, and as a result any wreck you may have is more likely to be fatal. Truck drivers also push the limits on regulations and rest, so they can drive fatigued which also adds to the danger along with people usually going around trucks in regular cars because trucks have to go slower.

You mentioned seeing a car get hit by a truck and it was spinning. That was me back in 1994 outside Harrisburg, PA. I was driving with my mom, brother, his wife, and their 2yo when a semi came into my lane. They had their signal on, and I pressed on my horn, but they kept coming over. I couldn't get onto the shoulder due to a disabled vehicle left exactly where I needed to go. So I sped up to get past (I was in line with the cab) and was almost past when they hit my rear driver's side. And away we went. I don't know how we didn't flip over, but we landed back down, having blown out all tires and resting across an entrance ramp. Miraculously none of us was hurt. That was so scary. Thankfully the truck driver, from Indiana, saw what happened and stopped and ran back to us. To this day I find myself fighting down panic when I'm passing or being passed by an 18-wheeler. We now live on the I-75 corridor in Sarasota, FL (which the narrator mentioned), and I can attest that it is so dangerous. Multiple accidents every single day. What is up, people?! Between construction, population gain, distracted and asshole drivers, it's not fun.

Your smart for not staying next to a semi. Put your blinkers on early around them especially in the mountains. Slow down slowly.

I’ve driven across i40 a lot. Yes, a good chunk is very plain nothing around landscape-wise. Other roads I’m quite familiar with and driven a lot in this video is i-20, i-75, and i-95. I would like to nominate i-4 as an honorable mention. Yes, it’s pretty short, but soooo many tourists traveling on it makes it dangerous imo. 😜 *It’s an interstate going from Daytona to Tampa in Florida and is a main thoroughfare for Orlando.

When we moved to OKC, we drove 40 twice a year for 6 years. When we left OKC, cool-time change, look 52 oz steak, red rocks. Colorado River and watching all the truckers move over to the slow lane at the CA line....2 years later-shoot, we are only to the red rocks? I drove straight from Flagstaff to OKC one time and my legs/feet were swollen and shakey. So glad I don't do that drive any longer. Cool the first time, not so much every time later.

I-35 also has fatalities because people driving from the south don’t know how to drive in snow. I’ve barely missed crashes from people with Texas plates driving in Minnesota.
