Personally, I feel that there needs to be an age cap placed on all elected and unelected offices in the US. The reason I included unelected is because of the Supreme Court. Those positions of power are placed there by the President. After a certain age, the majority of people's mental capacities diminish.

Cardinals can no longer vote for the next Pope once they reach 80. This was put in place by Pope Paul VI in 1970 (Ingravescentem aetatem) and modified by Pope John Paul II in 1996 to make the rule clearer. But there is no rule saying the Pope has to retire at 80 although Benedict resigned at age 85 and referred to his declining mental accuity. Kind of amazing that an institution dominated by the ancient recognized this issue over a half century before the US did. Problem with doing this with the Supremes is that there is nothing in the US Constitution that would allow that and given the separation of powers I'm not sure that even a Constitutional amendment which would require 3/4 of all the state legislatures to approve an amendment would be considered legal. Likely the Supreme Court itself would have to create that rule and given Ruth Bader Ginsburg's refusal to retire despite all of Obama's pleading, which led to the current 6/3 conservative/liberal split in the SC, its highly unlikely that they would consider anything like that. The last time anyone outside of the SC tried to mess with it was FDR in his 2nd term as President after his landslide re-election. Despite his popularity, when he tried to pack the court with 6 additional justices, the outrage was so loud that he had to back down. In the end, since he had 4 terms, he did manage to select all 9 justices, but right now Presidents are limited to 2 terms.

I have had many family members live to be 90+ years of age (my great grandmother was 107 yrs when she passed) and they were sharp as a tack. Biden's cognitive decline wasn't as quick as it seems. The MSM, Democrats, and his donors have been covering it up. Until this recent debate, he almost never spoke unless reading from a teleprompter or when answering questions that were pre-approved in advance by his team, allowing him to practice the responses. Also, his team tried to keep speech (teleprompter readings) to only times that were during his "good hours" when he was more aware and alert. Still, he fumbled, A LOT. The MSN and Dems made excuses and often even lied, saying any video of this behavior was AI generated by fake news outlets. They couldn't conceal the live debate, though. The jig was up. In American politics, and probably elsewhere, there is a suggestion that you should attack your opponent for whatever weakness you have. This Presidential election is between two candidates who frequently misspeak and have the highest combined age in American history. It's illogical that this should be a concern for just one candidate. Biden made a couple of obvious verbal gaffes. Otherwise, he showed a depth and breadth of knowledge accumulated over decades of experience. It would be more responsible for the news media to show and discuss both so voters can decide for themselves which is more important. Have you ever noticed in old black-and-white photos just how many world leaders of the past were old, chosen for their experience (hopefully)? When Winston Churchill became Prime Minister for the second time at age 76, his health was already a concern after more than one minor stroke. I realize it was a different time.

I didn't watch it. I am not a fan of him or Trump. I am worried about Biden though. I know that he is older. But I do think he is struggling with his mental acuity. I have 2 aunts with Parkinson's and their memory issues are nowhere near as bad as his. I know that older people can have memory issues. My grandmother is almost 88. And she has some memory issues and she has slowed down. But that's due to age. I wouldn't want her running for president at her age.
