San Antonio is THE city to visit if you’re a tourist in Texas. The Alamo and river walk are cool. Good Tex-Mex too

You realize San Antonio is a Spanish name?

Well, westward if the French territory, was owned by the Spanish government. Hence, why buildings -- especially the older building -- look Spanish.

Granted your surprise at San Antonio, I wonder what you think American cities are like. American cities are diverse, no two are alike. We are a very diverse nation and take pride in our individuality.

Hi Thurs, This was a great video about San Antonio. It really is a lovely city and is very diverse. The River Walk is stunning with all the restaurants and shops but you need to remember this is a high traffic tourist area and can be very expensive. Any hotels on the River Walk will also be expensive. Great food city. Personally I would prefer to go to Austin Texas instead of Houston for a day trip. Great Video Thurs.

Riverwalk is a fabulous area and The Alamo is just a short stroll away. It was so cool to see it in person. You really should watch a history of the US before it became the US.

Remember the Alamo! Austin is closer to the middle of Texas. Peace from Central Texas.

San Antonio is 150 miles (241KM) from the Gulf Coast and the same from Mexico. It is the home of Tex-Mex. It was settled by Spaniards, Mexicans, English, Irish, Germans, Americans, and just about every other ethnic group. The Riverwalk, built by the WPA in the 1930s, at Christmas is magical. And yes, there are apartments along the Riverwalk but are very expensive.

I'm pretty certain that you would enjoy San Antonio, Thurston. The weather is warm and sunny and the food is great. It's exotic for Brits.

The Alamo is in San Antonio. It’s where the defenders of Texas fought against the Mexican army to the last man. They died absolute heroes. The bowey knife was created there.

born and raised in San Antonio! thanks for learning more about my great city! I don't think this video really went into a lot of detail (maybe only from a touristy perspective) but it's a great starting point, there's a lot more that SATX has to offer :)

Even for a touristy perspective, it wasn't a good video. It just named places and things you could look up online. It would've been better had they shown more in-depth details of the places they were talking about so the people could see how beautiful it is. Especially the vibe of the river walk at night. There's so much more it has to offer than what was said. I grew up just about 3-4 hours south of San A. It was what my siblings and I considered our vacation to get away from the everyday life of South Padre Island. I personally think that video didn't do the city justice.

San Antonio has been my home for 60 years. I was born in Houston but soon saw the error of my ways and moved to San Antonio when I was 3 days old. I mostly agree with everything the presenter had to say about San Antonio until she got to Austin. Nothing good ever happens in Austin. The legislature is located there as is a school of dubious accreditation with a satanic bovine for a mascot. As the old saying goes, "The life and liberty of no one is secure when the Texas Legislature is in session. This is reflected in our constitution which allows them to meet for only 40 days every two years. Sadly, that was a typo and it was supposed to be for only 2 days every 40 years. San Antonio definitely has a "Spanish" influence. It was founded by Spanish missionaries. The King William area mentioned in the video was originally the Kaiser Wilhelm district where many of our German settlers lived. The original name did not survive WWI. Dotted through the central highlands of Texas are a number of small towns settled by Germans. Fredericksburg, as mentioned in the video is one such but there are others. Many maintain there cultural and linguistic heritage. Castroville, just to the west would be an example of an Alsatian settlement. Many of our small towns were originally settled by specific ethnic groups. Austin, though was settled by the criminals of all the other groups. I have been all over the world and have visited most parts of Texas. I always love visiting but home will always be San Antonio. For many years, it was one of the "large" US cities with a small town feel to it. To me, it has lost much of the "small town" feel but I still prefer it to every other large city I have ever been in, though Jerusalem would rank high.

San Antonio is my favorite Texas city. A large portion of the US was once Spanish territory, hence the city names, architecture, culture, religious influence, etc. Louisiana used to be part of Spain at one time. But so, too, were parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and other parts in the South. The Riverwalk is what you can do if local authorities did their jobs. It’s beautiful and well done. Hotel Emma is nice, and the tourist attractions are really nice. The city should be high on people’s lists.

The San Antonio Riverwalk makes SA one of the eight most romantic cities in the world, seriously. It’s like you are transported back to Venice or Spain. The Alamo, the Zoo, Six Flags Fiesta and the Brewery District are all good, too. And with Austin and Fredericksburg close by, you can’t go wrong.

My grandfather used to drink Pearl beer. Nasty stuff. They mentioned Fredericksburg in the wine country bit. Fredericksburg was settled by Germans, as was a lot of central Texas. You just can't miss the German food there.

San Antonio is famous for the Alamo, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld San Antonio, and the riverwalk. It is also the largest city in America to not have a Regional or Light Rail network for Passenger Rail.

The San Antonio River is often dismissed as a tiny odd river but it comes from an underground aquifer instead of some kind of rain shed where it starts from like a mountain range. There is quite a few really cool places that is too long for a short video. Dinosaur tracks not far from downtown. Riverwalk at Christmas, Alamobowl, NCAA Final Four last time the Harlem Globetrotters for free, a BBQ place that has guys on horseback directing parking, rodeos, Fiesta, and the Menger Hotel with a really cool old bar with Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders exhibit.

$29 for the Zoo. Yeah, that's about right. The Zoo in my city is smaller than the one in San Antonio, but it still costs $21 for adults.

I only spent about an hour or so in San Antonio as part of a larger road trip to see how far west we could get in a week (and San Antonio was it). My friend stopped at a red light and had me run up to the Alamo to get a picture to avoid paying ~$30 for parking. Also tried Jack-In-The-Box, as well as shopping at a H-E-B, a staple Texas supermarket. From there we went to the Bucc-ee's in New Braunfels and on to Austin. Definitely a city worth going to, I want to go back someday to experience more.
