Here in Chicago, ANYBODY can walk down to the glass during warm ups before the game and wait until the seat owners come to their seats. Patrick Kane tosses a puck to a fan in the same section next to the bench as he comes off the ice (always the last one out there) and my nephew actually caught one. His favorite player and he'll never forget it...

It works both ways too. I am from Detroit, I remember Barry Sanders being an asshole to my mother at a game we went to. I will always remember that. Same as I will always remember seeing Chris Benoit almost run over some of his fans because they were blocking his car just a few weeks before, well you know.

Same here in NY, anyone can go down to the glass during warmups, at least for the Islanders games. In 2019 we had some Buffalo fans with their kids that made the drive down to see Buffalo play the Isles at Nassau Coliseum and they didn't realize anyone could go down during warmups. We told them they should head down to the ice because they would probably get pucks if the Sabers players saw them. They were so excited when they came back up because they got a bunch of pucks and photos with the players. Moments like this make hockey so special.

There are so many of this type of video for the NHL and Hockey fans. You should do more of them. Hockey players are some of the nicest, realest pro athletes out there. I have seen them do things for fans (especially kids) that make grown men cry on more than one occasion. They really get it. They get that the kids and fans look up to them because they were in the same position when they were kids. And it's not just the big name players either. In most arenas, anyone can go down into the lower bowl and get down to the glass during warm ups in hopes of seeing their favorite player up close. Lots of kids bring signs in hopes that they get noticed and more TV people try to get everyone on camera who has a sign so that it can be seen on the broadcast. I remember as a kid, going down to the glass for warm up and being in awe of just how big and fast the players were. TV doesn't do the game justice. Seeing a game live is such a different experience. I hope that when you come to Canada and/or the USA that you get to see a game live.

I've seen that joy first hand. My mother, and I use to have season tickets to the Houston Aeros (Minor League team that was Farm Team for Minnesota Wild), and we would take my Nephew to weekend games with us. Through a lot of their fan appreciation stuff (Dinner with Players, Fan Club Pot Luck Dinner for the players, etc...) my Nephew received signed Pucks, and Sticks from various players. We also became good friends with 2 of the players (Cavanaugh, and Cavoise for those curious). A lot of the players remember being that kid asking for a puck, or stick, so they know what it means to these kids. Hockey Players tend to be the nicest gentlemen you could ever meet (off the ice that is lol).

Hockey really has a strong dichotomy. On one hand it's a brutally punishing sport that is the last mainstream sport where fights are expected and allowed and overwhelmingly self policed. On the flip side you have players who are overall very engaged, generous and so good spirited towards those in attendance who (also uniquely) are just a thin sheet of plexiglass away from the play.

NHL players don't have the egos of other pro athletes in the US. For the most part, they still see themselves as regular people. Hockey players are the most genuine, down to earth athletes! I got a puck from a player at a Philadelphia Flyers game in 1980 -- I still have it.

Mike Emrick said it best in 1995 during the finals between New Jersey and Detroit, the reason for the down to earth attitude of NHL players is because the game has strong roots in rural Canada. They will look you in the eye and give the best answer they can.

When you show up early to a hockey game it is a custom to walk down to the glass regulardless of where your seat is and you always let the kids sit on the glass in front of you

We used to go watch the Florida Panthers practice. After practice they would come out, without fail, and talk to us, sign anything for us and just spend time with us fans. Something I’ll never forget. #3 Paul Laus will always be my hero!!

Hockey players are some of the nicest most down to earth players….this happens most every game….you only seen a very few incidents.I wish I could tell a few amazing stories (but can not due to the nature of my job at the time) about some awesome tear jerking moments I seen from a couple particular Hall of Famers and their interactions with fans…..just know NHL players are some of the best people in sports!!!!

The Arizona Coyotes the NHL team here in Phoenix has a Fan day every year in the off season and you can meet them and get goodies and such. I took my kids there many times back in the day when they were kids it was special.

I had a cool interaction with my favorite player Rick Nash. It was back in February of 2003. He was a rookie for my favorite team the Columbus Blue Jackets and they were playing in Boston. I was with my mom and two of our friends. We were staying in the team hotel and we got to meet Rick Nash in the lobby of the hotel and also met the head coach. It's so true, hockey players are the nicest people you will ever meet!

We have season tickets for the San Jose Sharks and they’re awesome about signing things for fans waiting where they exit in their cars after the games. Especially signing things for kids! Not sure how other arenas do things but usually at SAP Center we can get down by the ice during warm ups which is when most of the interactions you see in this video happen. NHL players seem to be the most dedicated to doing this stuff across the board. There are obviously players in every sport that do, but it’s been my observation that it’s a bit more prevalent in hockey.

these clips are from warm-up, so most of the seats right along the glass haven't been filled yet, so a lot of the people standing around in these clips are actually sitting all around the rink, they just gather along the glass during the warm-up

Its funny you mentioned "die hard fans", well most of those fan/player interactions happened during warm-ups about an hour and a half before the game starts, so those fans ARE die-hards 😝 they show up early and wait around JUST to get a chance to maybe meet some of the players. Happens all the time and its super great for the kids ☺ God I love this game 💙💙

They let you mill about during warmups, especially if you're a kid, so anyone can end up with something. I've never gotten anything at a game, but the good memories for me are during autograph sessions (I watched minor leagues, but many of the player did have NHL stints). The players who interacted with me instead of just signing and passing it on were those I remembered.

During hockey warm ups, which is everything you saw in this vid, all spectators are allowed to show up early and walk down to the front row seats and watch everyone warm up! All equal opportunities for all individuals who got noticed in this video, don't need a first class ticket!

These are rules.... Never approach a player just out for the day shopping or eating. A garcias head nod or photo from afar is acceptable (unless they are with their family, no pics of the family). Let them have a life. But.... on gameday or at practice, it's on. Waiting outside the hotel for autographs, waiting along glass in warmups, outside the rink after the game/practice. these dudes will sign anything, talk to you and show mad respect to fans. It's the give and take. Dont interrupt their daily life but they give it everything when appropriate.

I saw a player from my favorite team and paid for a drink for him a few years back (just told the bartender to put his next drink on my tab, didn't bug him). Awhile later I found it funny to realize that if that event was described to someone it would be: "A guy who makes $0 per year at his job (unfunded startup) just paid for a drink for another guy who makes millions of dollars per year."

If you get to the game in time for warm ups, most arenas will let you go watch down by the glass. You just need to move if the person with that seat shows up. You need to check out Hockey Players and their "Heroes".

During warm-ups, the seats are a bit of a free-for-all. most kids at ice level have seats higher up, but will run down to the glass. not too sure if it works like that everywhere, but i’ve done it every time i went to a habs game when i was a kid.

Most arenas let anyone down to the glass for the pregame skate. That's when the fans with signs get to hopefully interact with and maybe get a puck. They send everyone back to their seats before the game starts.

Check out the rivalry between the Chicago Blackhawks and The St. Louis Blues (Yikes). Or the story of the original six. In the beginning there were only 6 teams in the league.

Eh, the 6 teams is an oversimplification. There were a lot more but only six of them that actually lasted. The inaugural season of the NHL was 1917-18 and the teams in the league were the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Hockey Club, the Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Wanderers. The Wanderers' arena burned down partway through that season so they only played 6 games (the other teams played 22 games) and were done in the league after that. The next season the Toronto Hockey Club was called the Toronto Arenas and there were 3 total teams in the league. The next year it was the Toronto St. Patricks instead of the Arenas and the Quebec Athletics joined the league. Then the Quebec Athletics were replaced by the Hamilton Tigers. Then the Montreal Maroons and Boston Bruins joined the league for the 1924-1925 season, then the Hamilton Tigers left but the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Americans came in (7 total teams that season). The next season there were 10 teams (Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Cougars, and New York Rangers joined). That lasted until the '30-'31 season when the Pirates moved and became the Philadelphia Quakers and the Cougars changed their name to the Detroit Falcons. The next season the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Quakers took the year off. The following season the Senators returned but the Quakers never came back and the Falcons changed their name to the Red Wings. Then in '34-'35 the Senators moved to St. Louis and became the Eagles. The next season the Eagles left the league. In '38-39 the Montreal Maroons took the year off and never came back. In '41-'42 the New York Americans changed their name to the Brooklyn Americans.That was the 25th season of the NHL and would be the last season the Brooklyn Americans were in the league. The following season was the start of the "Original Six Era." and it lasted until 1967.

I got a autographed hockey stick from a Jr Hockey player from Western Hockey League. Michal Sykora came from Czechoslovakia lived in Tacoma playing for the Rockets but got drafted and played for the San Jose Sharks in the 90s.

I can tell you prior to Covid the Pittsburgh Penguins players would deliver season tickets to fans at their homes. They also would pick random fans last home game and give the game worn jerseys

I used to not be a big NHL fan. I grew up in the desert and have never ice skated so maybe it’s easier to understand. However, with all the political crap that is now going on I have been changing my ways. It’s one of the few sports that I can watch to help escape from all the BS we are going through. On a better note, this video is great! We need more videos like this that a positive and make your heart melt, especially when it involves kids. Thanks!
