It's incredibly important that people are honest when answering the questions upon arrival. Because Australia is an island and quite isolated we are free of many of the pests and diseases that are found elsewhere in the world. Our primary industries depend on it remaining that way. Our economy depends on it. Our native flora and fauna depend on it. These people did the right thing by all of us by being honest.

The channel One Pack Wanderers have a great Australia series. They bought a car and did the full loop. A pretty good watch. To do what you want to do in the time you've alocated, flying between will maximise your time in each location but take away from the great areas and drives in between.

$1.00 AUD = 56P so $3.00 AUD = £1.70 but that is expensive even for Aussies. Also $6.70 USD = $10.00 AUD. Prices in OZ are a little expensive but we pay employees a good wage plus superannuation of 10% and do not need to tip.

When you commented on the different weather conditions in Australia, you need to consider that the straight line distance (North to South) from Melbourne to Cairns is about double London to Inverness or equivalent to London to Marrakesh in Morocco.

The reason Melbourne's weather is so up and down is our location. If the wind's coming from the north it gets hotter, sometimes ferociously so. Coming from the south means the breeze, or gale force, is coming from Antarctica. In the last week the temperature has been: 27 (80.6), 23 (73.4), 33 (91.4), 21 (69.8), 22 (71.6), 30 (86 )then 31 (87.8). I don't know about everyone else, but I'm wearing warm jackets when it's around 23. I live a 30min drive from Melbourne and it rained starting around midday yesterday and didn't stop until around 3pm today.

Nope, Kabir, you MIGHT get two of those goals into two weeks but definitely not three. To be honest, I would say pick ONE and stick with it, get the most out of that particular place and save your money for the following year, Part 2. You can’t see much in six days, and the cost of travelling from one state to the next plus accommodation, etc, would suck your resources dry as well as take another day out of your two weeks. Sydney and Melbourne are comparable to London. Can you see everything you want to see in London in just six days? Hang on, three times six is eighteen, but you only have fourteen days including 26 hour travel times each way as well as allowing for jet lag! So practically, your 14 days has become 10 days! So if you travel between states, you’ll lose another day each time.

Melbourne is very much like the areas you described in London. The comedy festival runs end March to mid April. The Australian Open (tennis) is on at the moment. She mentioned $660 for the room not $60, that would be for the week, so approx £350/week. An alternative to the CBD is South Yarra where you could get an apartment and it's a nice area approx 4kms out.

There is 3 hours difference between Melbourne and Perth and its a 5 hour flight time...They are traveling around the world over a one year period so it is understandable that they are on a tight budget. $3 transfer is about 1 pound 60p. Where they stayed was one of the cheaper places in Melb mostly for backpackers, but very good value and clean. there is a free tourist tram that circles the city with stops at points of interest you can get of look around and get on the next tram that comes along, also all the trams within the city are free, if you travel on a tram that continues out of the city you will need to have a Miki card which you have to put money on and swipe it every time you get on or off the tram.

It takes 2.5hours to fly from Brisbane to Cairns, but you can see the Great Barrier Reef from Mackay and right up the coast. I recently saw some of it from Airley Beach and took a 1/2 day tour of Whitsunday island where Whitehaven Beach is. That was so beautiful. Dont forget that accommodation is quite expensive, especially Melbourne and Sydney. But you can have a quick look on sites like air b&b, wotif, last minute etc.

Maybe do the Barrier Reef first and then fly to Brisbane and then drive from Brisbane to Ballina airport to then fly onto Sydney etc. That way you will see the Gold Coast and some of the rural scenery along the way. Although extremely touristy, Byron Bay is on that drive if you wanted to call in on your way through and visit the light house. Byron Bay is the most easterly point of Australia. Also, as the time gets closer to your visit, let us all know. If you are not opposed to the idea, I am almost certain there will be plenty of people who will be happy to (at the very least) show around their local area while you are in their area. Woohoo - what fun for you 😁. As somebody else mentioned, look at the channel One Pack Wanderers. They did some very informative videos while they were in Australia. I’m very excited for you! 😊

Hotel housekeeping cannot clean all the checkout rooms in an hour unless they employ a huge cleaning staff for that hour. What do they do for the rest of their shift? It’s a logistical schedule to stagger cleaning to match bookings. If a guest arrives earlier than their booking, the assigned room may be later on the cleaning schedule, but still in time for the booked check-in time.

Do not take any advice from these 2. They are the sort of tourists Aussies can't wait for them too leave. This video was reviewed on another channel run by a young Scottish guy who lives in Malaysia and everyone flamed and roasted them for their lack of research and disrespectful mispronunciation of Australian place names - completely clueless. It doesn't take much to ask first before you make a fool of yourself - Mel-born and Bris-bane had us Aussies cringing. I have lived and worked in the UK, USA and Hong Kong and I always do my research before going, especially local customs. Also, this women is such an airhead, it's all about her and not much about the places she visits. She is like some self centred little schoolgirl. In complete contrast is the 'One Pack Wanderers' channel run by another young American couple but they are well informed, intelligent, do their research and actually ask locals how to correctly pronounce place names. Consequently OPWs have a large and loyal group of followers. If you want good advice from other travellers, I would suggest looking at One Pack Wanderers channel to learn a few tips. They were in Aus for a few months and bought a car to drive from Perth - Adelaide - Melbourne - Canberra - Sydney - Brisbane - Cairns - Darwin - Alice Springs - Adelaide and back to Perth where they sold the car. You will regret trying to do Melbourne, Sydney and Great Barrier Reef in such a short time. You will have to fly between places. Melbourne to Cairns is about the same distance as London to Athens except directly north-south so very different climates. Mel - SYD is 1 hr 25 mins in the air so add an hour either side. SYD - CNS is 3 hrs 5 mins in the air. First time visitors to Aus just do not understand the distances and vastness of Australia. Our spring or autumn would be the best time to visit - winter will be cold and wet in Melbourne (where I live) and summer in Cairns will be like living in a sauna. Melbourne is on the southern hemisphere equivalent latitude as Lisbon and San Francisco and Cairns is similar to Jamaica - big differences in climate.

Kabir, because the size of Australia is comparable to the US, the climate covers everything from frozen to tropical, we have rainforest to bushland to desert to ski resorts! Our public toilets are often the stinkiest places in the city, so contributing to the cost of the cleaners to come in and scrub the entire place of the muck, misses and poop you left everywhere, is an absolute necessity, especially after a drunk has been in there!

If you come in Macrh-April to Melbourne for the Comedy Festival you will find the weather quite pleasant. The days will be still warm after summer and daylight saving time is until around early April, meaning an extra hour of light in the evening. Melbourne's weather is changeable, even during the day, so wear layers of clothing to put on or take off. If I had a few weeks I would do some of the east coast - Melbourne, Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef. Go by short plane trips between each. From those places you can also do day trips to some beautiful places in the countryside. Melbourne's skyscrapers are very colorful and have interesting shapes - unusual and unique. Go over the Westgate Bridge both ways to see the cityscape and the huge Port Phillip Bay which Melbourne wraps around. To get a full experience on Melbourne (and Greater Melbourne which is approximately 10,000 square kms/3,900 miles-and growing fast) go to Eureka Tower in Southbank, a short stroll across the Yara River in the CBD (Central Business District aka the city centre). You will have a 360 degree view to see ALL of Melbourne and the mountain ranges and bay at the Skydeck about 85? floors up. Choose a clear, sunny day otherwise you may be in the clouds! Cheaper accommodation is at various hostels for travellers.

Melbourne is a City of exhaust fumes... if a substance was sprayed in the air that could turn unseen exhaust fumes fluro pink, then everything you would see would be fluro pink... if i was sitting in a restaurant the whole space would be filled with fluro pink, all that you would see inside peoples homes would be fluro pink. Being that i live in rural Victoria whenever i go to Melbourne i get a chemical type taste in my mouth, my eyes develop a slight stinging sensation, and i get a mild headache until i leave smogville and head home to clean air (what our bodies thrive on). Melbourne has nothing going for it... it is home to mass humanity, mass vehicles, mass exhaust fumes, mass factories, mass smog and mass sickness "ENJOY"

The only accom in cities in Australia that is less than about $200 per night - and that is on the cheap end - is Youth Hostels of Australia. Those are the cheapest. Some churches have campgrounds with huts and toilets etc and they are cheaper. Contact Seventh-day adventists and Baptists as they tend to have these places. Or rent a minivan or station wagon and sleep in that and shower on the beach. The ultra tourist places have options. Or ask online if anyone here would be willing to accommodate you in exchange for you doing the same for them in the future.

It's cold here in Melbourne at the moment. Makes me wonder what the hottest day of summer was this time round. No heat waves, and we haven't seen summer yet, heading toward the last third. Last year was a non summer too. I remember, back in the day, massive heatwaves. 38 to 42 or more, consecutively. Then another. I remember measuring in the sun at the farm, through the roof. Yes, Melbourne is known for four seasons in one day, hence the Crowded House song. It hailed here the other week, looked like someone had emptied their Esky on the doorstep.

So £120 is $230 - u can definitely get somewhere decent to stay for that! Sticking to the East coast is smart and what most ppl do on their first visit 😊 Room checking in gives time for ppl to check out and rooms to be cleaned! Imagine if EVERYONE wanted to check in @ 10 am but ppl were checking out @ that time…when would cleaning get done? And can u imagine the wait @ reception 😂 In fancy hotels u can usually get an early check in if you let them know ur expected arrival time in advance or if u have an AMEX Platinum card they will almost always look after u! Those hotels are much more $$$. Melbourne is very cosmopolitan yes, it’s the arts capital of Australia (as well as tons of other things sports, fashion, coffee ect) It’s the most European city in Australia and it’s very like London weather but not as cold (around 10 degrees on a winters day) So that was a good video of the Vic Markets 😂 but there is SO much more going on!!

The problem with the video is that this couple never leave the Melbourne CBD. It's all just glass and steel. To get a better flavour of Melbourne you need to venture out into the inner suburbs: Fitzroy, Footscray, Carlton, or Richmond, for example. They're just a short tram or train ride away. Better yet, ride a bicycle.

If you're going to Cairns, which is pronounced like cans of drink to see The Great Barrier Reef. I'd recommend staying in the area for at least a couple of days. Including visiting Kuranda via Sky Rail and The Scenic Railway. Then, hiring a car to go up the mountain range at least for a day to see what we have to offer. We have rainforests and waterfalls with a much cooler climate. It feels like a sauna in Cairns. There is a lot of natural beauty up here, but you shouldn't try relying on public transport. There are plenty to see and do. Being Aussies, the locals are friendly, and we love our tourists, especially international ones. But I would recommend booking ahead because it's a popular tourist destination. Many tourists visit both Cairns and The Atherton Tablelands. There is pizza shop I'd recommend if you decide to visit Atherton, namely Luisun. You might find that some of their pizzas might be comparable in price to the ones in the UK. But they're huge and made with fresh ingredients by a genuine Italian Mama. You'll definitely have lunch for at least the next day.

A question might be what you really want out of the holiday? Is there anything you really want to experience or see and is it more culture, activity, sightseeing and/or nature based experiences. Also a stopover in Bali, Malaysia, Thailand or Singapore might be worth considering if you can squeeze in an extra couple of days given the distance your travelling, just thoughts that may help? Also maybe just do a combo like Melbourne/Tassie, Darwin/ Perth, Sydney/ Queensland etc each would be very different experiences and sightseeing with enough time to explore outside of the main cities.

I worked in a 5 star hotel before hurricane Katrina destroyed it and the suites we were given to clean we had to clean them in 45 minutes. The regular rooms had to be done in 20 minutes. One of the rooms I went into had a man that had died in the bed. I freaked out and my boss sent me home. Poor guy had a heart attack and was only 42. Other than that I hated that job so I transferred to the casino as a floor cleaner. I did that for 6 years. After Katrina hit my boss transferred to another casino so he took all his best cleaners with him including me. I worked there for 8 years until I hurt myself on the job. I didn’t get better because of my injuries so after 2 years they let me go with a good pay out. I have been on disability ever since. I loved that job and meeting people from different countries etc. My boss was so awesome. My oldest grandson is good friends with his son. Small world. I hope you enjoy your trip.

Why would you put a country at risk and lie about where you have been? Your attitude re "There is no way they could know" is so typical of ignorant people who think laws are optional. Australia does not have a lot of bugs and pathogens common to the rest of the world, and a mnor thing can cause massive damage to our ecology here. Have some respect. At least now we know you would lie when entering Australia.

Good point there are many diseases such as rabies and foot and mouth disease Australia does not have or want and could be very damaging to both our agricultural and native animals and plants. There are many people who are ignorant and don't understand the importance and possibly many who do so deliberate but I don't think he said that with any malice or intent of doing it, just questioning, like how would they know. Maybe he could research Quarantine Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. Also I imagine they have a few ways like seeing dirt on peoples hiking shoes, items on x-ray or the dog smelling food in their bag might be giveaways?

"We're so excited to be in Australia - we can get through an airport, catch an Uber, buy a toy Koala made in China, go to an ATM, a dunny and a hotel". Nice work! If it wasn't for the Melbourne sign they could have been anywhere. Can never understand why people do not bother to work out how to pronounce the names of places they're at. So bloody annoying - can't wait for them to get to Bris-Bane. Been in 48 countries and haven't worked out time zones yet. With all the small coffe shops and bistros to pick from they have a coffee chain Merlo? Nothing like an authentic Koala made in China. Absolute crap video!

Try sitting on top of a snow capped mountain in Australia. Not hot there.

agree that was a crap video you have reviewed. I wouldn't bother following that couple. One Pack Wanderers and even Lisa and Josh are much better blogs to watch of American couples travelling the world. 2 1/2 weeks is just not long eough to properly cover your intended itinerary. Of Melb and Syd, I would be visiting Melb then up to Cairns to visit the GBR, Karanda and the tropical areas around there. Maybe then Syd for day to see the coathanger and the opera house and fly out from there. Please tell the truth on the forms when arriving. We do not want to see our country open up to pests that will ruin our countryside and farming areas.
