That "lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas" more exactly means "airplane jet turbine motor assistant mechanic non-commissioned officer trainee". I suppose it is grammatically correct, but nobody would ever use such words in practice.
@ilesalmo7724
@ilesalmo7724 Ай бұрын
Do people who are studying to be a mechanic servicing exclusively military-machines need a rank or is it just after they graduate? I expect the training is mostly on-the-job, so they must be in the chain of command. And even if the word is not used in everyday conversation, it is useful in official documents to describe your current profession
@bambae7669
@bambae7669 Ай бұрын
@@ilesalmo7724 the trainee part of the word refers to their rank in the military. "Aliupseeriopilas" or NCO trainee, is someone who is in training to become an NCO (but is still a private/corporal), this means that they are in active service. The base professional title is lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikko, which doesn't have any connection to someones rank aka they are not in active service. The reason these exist is that people can delay their mandatory conscription due to studies. However after graduation you might get assigned to a completely different specialized branch, like fighter jet ground crew or military field hospitals. Some of these branches require the personnel to have a higher rank to assume command whenever necessary in wartime or while in active service. As an example every doctor in active service has the minimum rank of lieutenant cause of this. And yeah, military titles in finnish are ridiculously long due to them being so overly specific on your job description + rank. They are almost never used in actual conversations as is, outside of the cheap laughs i guess.
@magicofshootingstar5825
@magicofshootingstar5825 17 күн бұрын
@ilesalmo7724 That rank isn't anymore existing. I have heard that once upon a time it actually was a rank but nowadays it only exists as the longest word in Finnish 😃
@magicofshootingstar5825
@magicofshootingstar5825 17 күн бұрын
@ilesalmo7724 Oh, I clearly didn't read properly your original message 😅 As we have conscription in Finland, every guy and volunteer women are trained to some job in military. This word monstrosity once upon a time was (so I have been told) a description of one of the jobs you could have while being conscript in airforce (but doesn't exist anymore since they have streamlined the names somewhat, now it's just one of the longest words in Finnish). You were a specific type of mechanic for planes at basic training and then you went to NCO training. So your title just got longer 😄 In every day conscript life they are just called "NCO trainee surname" instead of the total monstrosity though. Many of those who end up to being mechanics as conscripts have some kind of decree in mechanical things from outside of military but not all. If you want to work there after conscription then there (I believe) is both civilian jobs and military jobs available in military to work with machines. If you want to work in military as a military personnel though then you need to go to a school to become officer after conscription. You cannot just stay in the military as in some other countries. Civilians I don't think have a rank, they just have a job title.

Actually Kris Dunn (the guy that looked short next to Lauri) is 191cm, so 6'3" 😄 So even taller than you thought 😁 There were a lot of non- every day words on these. I'm pretty sure they were just picked randomly by the media team (who doesn't speak Finnish of course) not by Lauri 😄 Palindromes, wordplays, tongue-twisters etc. but it's still fun to see these videos 😄 I'm pretty sure there is third video of these too if you want to react to more of these 😉

None of these words are actually useful, absolutely nobody use them in real life. I would use them only to demonstrate the phonetic nature of the language and the compound word structure, that you can pronounce whatever gibberish just based on how it's written. However these words are most commonly used to have a laugh in expense of foreigners trying to pronounce them.
