Remember what she said at the start. These are the best CHAINS. Chain restaurants can be good, but the privately owned restaurants are usually the best. I live in a renowned restaurant city and there are wonderful places with great food for from under $20.00 to hundreds of dollars depending on what you're looking for.

I lived in California for five years and I never quite understood what all the hype over In-N-Out Burger was. I mean the burgers were fine but they weren’t anything to write home about. I would’ve much rather had some cioppino or soup in a Boudin sourdough bread bowl than an In-N-Out Burger.

Tried both a number of times. They're both a bit of a "local hero". In n out is a good quality burger for a decent price. Their key is they keep the quality and consistency really tight across the entire chain. They're famous though because of their "not so secret" menu. Everyone loves to be "in the know". Wattaburger is a pretty good burger if you get a good store. Unfortunately They're really inconsistent. They're decent, large size burgers. Fairly plain though.

Gonna back up the Chili and Cinnamon Rolls. Sweet and Spicy/Savory is a fantastic combination, especially once it falls below freezing and the sun goes into hiding. Also, most people dont dip the Cinnamon Rolls; we just eat it as a side item (like fries and burgers). I cant think of anything better than a Runza on Temp. Tuesdays (when the price is the temperature at 6am) and a warm helping of a cinnamon roll and a small bowl of chili to help you forget that the windchill is -20 Celsius outside

Portillo's is a popular chain in the Chicago area and Northern Illinois. They specialize in Italian beef, which is mostly an Illinois thing to begin with. In n Out isn't the best burger in the state of California, but it is a good fast food burger. Fresh, cooked to order beef with ingredients well preportioned. The vegetables are always fresh and provide a good crunch. If you like thousand island type burger sauce their sauce is very addicting. Their fries aren't the best, but can be smothered in cheese, onion and sauce to taste better. I think a big reason in n out is so popular in states it is in, is it's tasty but it's also cheappp. Combo meals cost less than McDonald's and the service is quicker and often better.

In-N-Out is not great, at all. I'm starting to think that the chain pays all these video list creators to rank it at the top. They used to be decent, but now they're just piles of grease. If you come to California, go to The Habit instead. Their Portabella Char is gorgeous. (But ask for light mayo, because at least in my local place, they go a little crazy with the mayo.)

Having said that In N Out is famous for freshness, they have the freshest ingredients they literally cut the fries in front of you. The sauce they use, which we call spread is also really good. In and Out Burger is different from most other fast food chains in that they train up and try to retain their staff. They rely on skilled cooks rather than automation and machines. Everything is prepared fresh, including cutting the potatoes for the fries. If you eventually go to one, take the time to learn about the secret menu. I'm partial to the 'animal style' option (melted cheese, thousand island dressing, and sautéed onions), which can be ordered on anything (fries, burgers etc).

It’s not as crazy good as most of these kinds of videos make it out to be but as long as it’s cold enough outside, it’s a really hearty warming meal. It started in school lunchrooms in the 80s and 90s so a lot of people like it a lot just because of there nostalgia factor.

Whenever my family and I return home to the states (Southern California), the first thing we eat is In n Out! The meat is just so juicy. They're have been attempts at replicating it in many other fast food chain restaurants, but they just can't. It's more than just their sauce what makes it great. Do try it when you visit SoCal. And while you're here, do get your hands on some street tacos, elotes or esquites, and many other latino foods! We also have some of the biggest varieties in asian cuisine. The first time I ever had In-N-Out was 10 years ago in LA, and it was no great shakes. The idea that the expansion of the franchise into other states has turned a once outstanding burger into an also-ran is frankly just bullshit. I say this acknowledging that even our beloved Whataburger is pedestrian compared to even an average medium patty bar burger cooked medium. Basically there's just a lot of broke people with kids getting all their burgers through a drive-thru that are driving up the demand for thin-patty burgers, but it's not a real comparison. Thick patty burgers are king, fuck the thin patty chains.

Yeah, I am getting tired of these lists naming In-N-Out as our best food joint. The burgers are greasy and the fries are soggy. Plus, now it's been revealed that they don't really care about the health and safety of either their employees or their customers. We have so many FAR better restaurant chains around here. Runza, Nebraska. Chili and cinnamon rolls are a statewide expectation. Nebraska kids all grow up with that combo in school lunches. Runza was able to purchase a “secret” cinnamon roll recipe from a now defunct tea room in Lincoln. During January and February Tuesdays, whatever the temperature at 6 am is, that’s the price of a Runza when you pay regular price for a drink and fries. Since the weather can be 0° F or lower, the Runzas are often free or perhaps 5 cents. Temperature Tuesdays are great to get a cheap lunch. The other extra is Frings - fries with about 5 onion rings combined. They have the best fast food fries ever!
