As a nobody who makes a lot of the food showcased here. The "mini" smörgåstårta is called "Räkbakelse" or Shrimp Pastry directly translated. It's not a pastry more so a very tiny sandwich cake, two rye bread rounds filled with shrimp filling(often shrimps, mayonnaise, dill, and pepper). The "pastry" is covered in either creme fraiche or mayonnaise and parsley with peeled shrimps on top. The strawberry bun is basically a double fried croissant with strawberry cream & meringue mix. The Budapest Bakelse is "Budapest pastry" named after the Hungarian capital city, it's a wafer pastry filled with hazelnut and vanilla cream. Ärtsoppa with fläsk is yellow pea soup with pork, hearthy good dish that can be improved with mustard and thyme.

Shrimp Habitat: While they can live in freshwater, shrimp generally live in saltwater. Claws: Shrimp have claws on two pairs of their legs. Shells: The second segment of a shrimp's shell overlaps the first and third shell segments. This creates a distinct bend in their shape, another detail to notice when shopping for seafood. Prawns Habitat: Prawns live in fresh or brackish (somewhat salty) water, often near the bottom. Claws: They have claws on three pairs of their legs, which you can spot if you purchase unpeeled seafood. Shells: Prawns' shell segments overlap down their abdomen-meaning, the first shell overlaps the second, and the second overlaps the third-so there's less of a bend in their body.

Dwayne, the last meal is called "kroppkakor" - directly ranslated into "Body cakes". Its mostly make out of potato outer hull with pork meat inside. most of the old classig swedish food was made out of stuff we had laying around. its mostly consist of potatoes and things we could produce in the 1800. local ingredients. as we werent that weathly back then, high poverty, and most people were farmers barely making it, we just had to use everything on the animals we had, use everything and grow everything that we could grow in these harsh lands. so thats where most of the "basic" classic foods came from. picked stuff so it could last longer over winter, salted meats, crisp breads without an ounce of water so it couldnt mold, logical efficient food. not like France or Italy. we had efficient food that kept us alive. and some stayed as classical festival foods. no waste mentality.

Having not eaten a lot of Cranberries so I had too google a bit. From what I can tell Cranberries are more naturally tart than Lingonberries, but both have a somewhat sour taste just with the berries themselves. The jam you got from IKEA would have had a lot of sugar in it since they don't exactly use home-made jam (I assume - granted) so in that case I would imagine the taste is rather similar. Nutrionally Cranberries win as far as Vitamin C and A in addition to fibre content goes, while Lingonberries have more than twice the amount of antioxidants. Especially if you get wild lingonberries, though farmed lingonberries aren't really a thing in Europe as far as I can tell. They both contain about the same amount of vitamin K. You find it near all the other jam and fruit preservatives, it does not need to be refrigerated unless the packaging is opened. What you thought was Finnish was him trying to say the word Bakelse - means pastry. Like in the latter case there the "Budapest Bakelse" simply means Budapest Pastry. Also whatever Test-To-Speech service he was using was either very bad or he forgot the E at the end of Bakelse. Ba-Kell-Se

The most important difference (apart from the it's different species thing) is that cranberries are very easy to commercially cultivate and harvest. So will never really be an international commercial crop. But stay as a local delicacy.

Both lingonberry and cranberry have a tangy taste and contain very little sugar than other berries like strawberry and blueberry. Some of them have lemongrass in them too. I don't really agree with you, after all the Real Sweden consists only of 2 of the regions. Skåne and Lappland. The rest as the saying goes, contains only livestock and barns. Sverige består utav Skåne därom norrutliggande fäbodar och Lappland.

Sandwich cake can of course be condensed into a sandwich-sandwich. Great stuff!

"Sill" has a specific taste, if you love it then good for you. Most Swedes on the large family setting tables opts for the mustard sill because the mustard totally masks the pickled herring flavor.

Regarding the Ärtsoppa Dwayne.. I'm not sure if stores have any other -but it's the one called "Soldatens Ärtsoppa" that you need to get... a green one (also beware from their vegan option). You should by native rule also have a drink called punsch with it (a sweet spirit that you'll find in Systembolaget). After the soup you should have pancakes with whipped cream and jam. It were and I think still is a staple on menues on thursdays... why? Idk.. but it is. Thursdays are pea soup, fridays are tacos..

A lot of cafés in Sweden sell portion sized smörgåstårta or as shown here, a mini version of it. Just don't buy it at the airport, it's super expensive. Bakelse means pastry. Budapest bakelse is a marengue swiss roll filled with whipped cream and preserved sweet tangerine wedges. There's some cacao powder in I too. Not my kind of pastry.

Räkbakelse is not exactly the same as Smörgåstårta (almost the right pronunciation) but it's close to the seafood version. Almost every store/shop selling baked goods or food in Sweden have Smörgåstårta, and a big supermarket like Ica Maxi or a bakery usually have different portion sizes, so you can buy a bug one for a party or a small one for yourself. Try that instead of the räkbakelse when you get here. Or both. But since you're more interested in the Smörgåstårta this is my recommendation. Swedish food is comfort food, but it can get boring quickly if that's all you eat since there's not a lot of spices. The essential spices in Swedish cuisine are salt, white pepper, black pepper, soy sauce (for colour, not so much for taste), dill and butter. But if you're feeling exotic you can add some herbs like oregano or basil. The most common way to serve panfried Falukorv is with milk stewed macaroni, and ketchup or mustard. One of my favourite comfort foods aswell. 🤩

The lingonberrt jam in IKEA consists of more redcurrents than lingonberry and that makes the taste more cranberry like. Lingon has a more heavy taste

Our shrimps that is the common type are kind of smaller than what we called prawns. And they are bright pink and have a salty flavour. Some time of the year they have rum, some time the have not. I love our shrimps. Fresh boiled prawns in other countries tend to have lighter colour and are more tasteless, less salt. For example in Australia. But of course in Spain and Asia for example you can get very spicy prawn dishes with chili that are delicious. 😋😋
