The funny part is that Josh (jean jacket/white sweater) is known to CONSTANTLY over-order from restaurants, a fact that Ollie and even Gabie - Josh's wife, a chef who was also a runner-up on Masterchef Korea - always complains about, so the fact that he's completely overwhelmed this entire video is hilarious. The follow-up video, where they go to the Waffle House the next morning after a night of drinking for Noah's birthday, is even funnier.

Fried okra is completely different than boiled okra. Boiled makes a good thickening agent though. Pecan pie is like molten lava fresh out of the oven.

And it's "peh-KAHN" as Noah said. That's how we say it where the trees are native and where we have orchards. And yes, it is the best pie. Also, we used green pecans blown off by spring storms as weapons. Another traditional okra dish is okra and tomatoes. Just cut up okra and fry it with garlic in a little oil and then throw in tomato slices. It's really good

@@lisapop5219, The best way (IMHO) to eat pecan pie is to put a dollop of butter on top to cut the sweetness a bit. If the pie is cold, put the butter on it, then put it on the griddle under a danish dome with a squirt of water to reheat it.

Fried okra is southern popcorn, done right it is salty/peppery/crunchy, so tasty. Whenever I make it, I cook double what I think I need, because everyone in the house comes to stand by the stove and just eat it straight as soon as it’s cooked, lol (you do it in batches so it doesn’t get mushy). It’s unique and utterly delicious, it’s veggie crack!

Every Southern state has their own spin on BBQ. And we all have a certain lineup of traditional southern foods that we also have our own spin on. So basically every state you go to in the South has great food. Chicken, seafood, BBQ, cornbread, beans and rice, jambalaya, etc. And a variety of desserts. The list is very long of southern foods that must be tried at least once in your life if you're not from here. Once again a great reaction Kabir. Much respect from across the pond in Mobile ,Alabama.

I worked my way from the bottom up to Executive Chef for over 30 years in various commercial kitchens since I was 15. Northern kitchens at least when I was still working didn't have air conditioning, and the summertime heat was nearly unbearable. You're right about the pressure and stress in a commercial kitchen; it has driven many to drug and alcohol dependency.

I won't say "sauce is sauce". I will say you should pick BBQ sauce within wide categories (mustardy, tomatoey, white sauce, etc) and ingredient quality, but at a certain level within those limits they start to be similar. The meat and it's preparation is the real division.

Fried okra is amazing when cooked right and if you use cornmeal for the batter. Just cut the okra into pieces, dip it in egg, then dredge it in straight cornmeal with salt, pepper, and a little cayenne pepper added in, then deep fry for a few minutes until golden brown and crispy. I love it plain or dipped in ranch dressing. Much better than okra dredged in flour.

One of the best BBQ places in Atlanta (always comes top or near the top of local ratings) is Heirloom Market. It's a tiny place, run by a married couple (he's American, she's South Korean) and the place is always slammed with customers. You can get traditional American 'cue, but they also do kimchi slaw and gochujang BBQ chicken and turkey. You can dip your toe in the goodness by trying a sandwich or two before diving in headlong, and they have an extensive sandwich menu that rotates daily. Y'all come to Hotlanta and get ya some! 😊

I’m not a big fan of baked beans. Because they’re sweet. I do love me some pinto beans. I prefer savory over sweet. When I make my beans, I use pinto beans, garlic, oregano, Camino. I will either add a hambone, or I will cut up some salt pork. And I Cook them twice. Because after I cook them the first time, I mash some of the beans to make the juice sticker. And then I cook them again adding more beans. This way I get a big pot of beans with really thick juice. It is the bomb. 🤤😋❤️
