Tampere is not underrated amongst Finns, it is god knows how many years in a row voted as the best city in Finland or where people would move if they had to move somewhere. And quite many of them do, Tampere city area has actually grown from 200k to 250k in twenty years.

Nobody says "free wifi" in Finland because that's just assumed to exist everywhere. And yet most Finns use the 4G or 5G connection of their phones because that results a slightly lower latency in most cases. However, in case of trains, you want to use the train company "VR" wifi network because it works in the tunnels, too. Lots of latency, though, so don't expect playing any competitive online games in the train.

Yes, Tampere (Tammerfors in Swedish, our second official language) has been called the Manchester of Finland because it had lots of red-brick factories and those tall chimneys puffing out smoke back in the day. Now, many of the factories have been converted into shopping centers, hotels and so on. Like ALL Finnish words, Tampere has the stress on the FIRST syllable, not on the rest of the name.

Cheaper windows use Argon but higher quality windows use Krypton because it has better insulation properties. The inert gas is filled to same pressure as normal atmosphere so there's no pressure difference which prevents leaking gasses in or out.

Railways in Finland are really new compared to the UK. UK has a lot of historical bridges so that is why double decker trains can't really be a thing there.

The salmon pastry is a snack version of originally Russian coulibiac. Often found in coffee shops all over Finland. The full meal version is also very popular in eastern Finland. My grandmother used to make it often.

​@@oskar6747Hi, Oskar! I don't know off hand where you can get coulibiac, but I guess you can google 'coulibiac and Helsinki' and see what turns up! It is considered to be a pastry, so bread, cake and pastry shops should have coulibiac for sale. Cafés may also offer them. The spelling in Finnish starts with a k. They're not that common but grocery stores may have it in their fish or pastry sections. Good hunting!

11:40 Double-decker trains can be found in central Europe as well. The standard loading gauge (=minimum clearance for bridges, tunnels) in the UK is lower than in central Europe, which in turn is lower than in Finland. The difference is not massive, however, because a single-deck coach is about 4 m from the ground and a double-deck coach is about 5 m from the ground. But running double-decker trains in the UK would require a massive re-engineering of the whole rail network.

As someone from Tampere you should definitely visit, in the summer more specifically. There is stuff happening in Finland and people are more willing to socialize. I might be biased but I definitely think Tampere is better than Helsinki

You can go via ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki and from there by train to Tampere, then by train again to Turku and the ferry back to Stockholm. The boat ride is a over nighter on a cruicer though. Just thought i might mention this if you want to se a bit of Sweden too. But Finland is worth spending a full week or more in ofcorse.

It's a shame they didn't find the hill on the northwest side of Tampere, Pispala. It's full of gorgeous wooden houses with views out to the lake on both sides, as well as a view of the amusement park. And there's a cafe up there that I've heard has really good thicc pancakes, perfect after climbing up all those stairs (or taking a taxi/bus if you're worried you might not survive). It's my favorite part of Tampere besides the amusement park 'cause I can't grow up.

Double decker trains are very common in the rest of Europe. Yes, they fit in the tunnels. In Sweden and Germany, they are extremely common and are used for major commuter corridors.

Trains with two floors have existed for a long time in Sweden. The designation is X40. The trains have everything on board. Maximum speed is 200 km/h The most recent refurbishment of the interior of the X40 was done in Finland By the company VR Fleetcare. The trains are transported to the Finnish border. After that, the trains have to be rolled up onto transfer bogies. Svenk's train has the British / European standard gauge 1435 mm. Finland has Russian gauge 1,524 millimeters.

You should definitely visit Tampere as it's the best city in Finland and it's the capital of chicken wings, saunas (the most public saunas in Finland) and ice hockey (we have two of the most successful teams and best arena) in Finland! Best time to visit is of course in the summer.

The finnish streets and towns is calm and not noisy. Like in winter mostly inside an in summer out on the countryside. My Trips to finnland have been amazing.. the 90s was the best.. Turku and Tampere and Helsinki.. its like a trio connected with trains. I think Finnland is still the best country but i think the EU is desroying it like all north countrys

It's not just about tunnels. It's about the loading gauge, I think, which is just a fancy way of defining the maximum cross section of a train on a track. Which, yes, is about tunnels and bridges and stations and the over-track hardware, etc., but also a function of how old the track is. It probably wouldn't be entirely out of question to expand that stuff, if you planned it properly and wanted to make the costly investment. Newer railway infrastructure tends to be designed to be larger. Those old round trains in the London underground have pretty small loading gauges.

10:30 Usually it's expensive. Norwegian and wild are expensive, but Finnish grown indoors near lake Saimaa is quite cheap. You can get a pack of 3-5 small fillets for about 7 euros. In comparison four pieces of Norwegian salmon would have been over 40 euros at my local Citymarket. Those cheaper ones are also 14 euros a pack there, but in the cheaper shop you can't buy salmon from the fish counter because it's never fresh enough. And they don't sell good fresh summer potatoes in the winter like the Citymarket.

For comparison: Sweden had a double decker train for a while in the 60s. Since 2005/05 Sweden has double deckers in regular traffic. (Only SJ has 42 sets, litera X40, delivered between 2004 - 2008. Also newer trains are in traffic, by other train companies. Also Denmark and Germany have double deckers, and probably more European countries.

12:30 If you want to visit smaller towns I would recommend Tammisaari, Hanko, Fiskars and Porvoo at least. Fiskars has old buildings and lots of artists living in the area, Hanko and Tammisaari are old towns on the coast and Porvoo has a large old town, if I remember correctly. Haven't been there since a child. Get a local guide for the places. Maybe some of us. But all of those places suck during the winter. They are just dead and lifeless, but wake up for the summer.

Hi, Dwayne! Salmon used to be expensive back in the day. Then, when cultivated salmon in Finland and Norway became a common thing, salmon became more and more affordable, ending up as being much cheaper than meat. Earlier this year, the price of salmon, together with other food items, was raised (can't recall why). Salmon and rainbow trout are very good for you, so it's a shame, really. In Finland, salmon is prepared and eaten in many different ways, like coulibiac. Also as soup, warm or cold smoked, oven-baked, charcoal grilled, and - my favourite - cured, what we Finland-Swedes call 'gravlax'. I believe it's called 'lox' in English. Thin, thin slices of salmon cured with nothing but salt, dill, black pepper, maybe a little sugar and garlic powder, eaten on toast, with fresh dill, perhaps a little squeeze of lemon - is to die for!

Bullshit you are talking.Salmonnis cheaper because its rased in horrible farms where salmons are fed unnatural trashfood with color(so their sic anemic white meat wouldnt show to customers!)and lot of chemicals and antibiotic. Farm salmions are allways really sic and they spread desieses to wild fishes and to other sea animals. Its not healthy its commercial healthy lies as fur was sold as "ecologic" but now you cant because its against in law to sell it ecofruendly when its not(fur is actually called dangerous waste and shoud not put in average trash). Salmon is frickin' expensive here! most highest what I've seen has been almost 30€/KG !! Depends a lot where it comes from, we often have Norwegian salmons but own country salmons too, many places sells salmon foods but buying it from stores is crazy expensive, if you're like, there might be sale like 14.95€/KG or something, so even just small piece of salmon is expensive, I would love to eat smoked salmon often but it's rare treat for me cos of the price, sometimes thankfully there's shops like Prisma has that soon out of date products are -30% sale and it changes after 8pm to -60%! so sometimes it's so lucky if you get cooked salmon or smoked salmon for example of that price, how much Dwayne it costs in UK? My mum works at place called kauppahalli and they sell fish products own country ones, there's whole raw salmon which they've removed bones is 19,95€/KG and make them as filee is same price but salmon price changes all the time, but yeah, mum told me that if you buy raw filee of salmon without bones, the price is 29.50€/KG !!!!! She lives at Savo so they have they're own close towns salmons and other fish, even from all the way to Helsinki some ppl go there to buy salmon and other products cos many have cottages here :) in my opinion from Hesburger and Mc'donalds is that every other food and all is better in Mc'donalds except mayos! I hate MCD mayos cos portions are so small and they're very vinegary but Hesburgers mayos is in bags and garlic one actually has garlic pieces, it's so good that I always add it to my burgers ( can't eat any other mayos or ketchup etc ) lol, so hersburger I recommend garlic mayo! it's so much opinion who likes who but I like these differences :D

Oh!! In case you like heavier music, you should definitely watch (maybe a reaction-video?!) to the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish! The live performance of ”Ghost Love Score (Live at Wacken 2013) would be my recommendation to start with Nightwish’s music! As a Finn I’m SOOO proud that these amazing heavy metal bands, like Nightwish are so liked and appreciated around the world. Highly highly recommend checking out that live version ☺️🤌🏼

To be honest it is more surprising UK doesn't have double decker trains as they have the busses. Your point about the tunnels is valid but at least some areas in London definitely don't have any tunnels whenever I've been so some routes could definitely benefit from double decker trains since UK is so populated. If you're coming to Finland I really think you hsould at least stop by the Åland Islands as well, specially since if you are taking the ferry from Sweden to Finland or the other way round, that ferry litearlly stops off here on the way, and we have some amazing history, unique archipelago nature that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world, interesting history and just overall a great place to visit, specially in the summer time!

Between Helsinki-Tampere I believe there are no tunnels at all. As for the height limitation of our tunnels, I just don't know. I have never travelled on a double-decked train car. They must be a new thing.

Finland's so flat that we don't really have tunnels. Also, in China is called "high-speed rail" we call just normal pendolino trains (they go around the same speeds)

UK is like the only place on earth that don´t have double decker trains.. Well.. that might be a bit harsh. But basically every nation i can think of have double decker trains. Worth saying that the Finish train have a larger loading gauge than most other European trains so the double decker trains are roomier and also generaly larger (that is, the double decker part is a larger percentage of the train). The reason why double decker train don´t exist in UK is that UK use steam for e very long time, then swich to 3rd rail electric. So the tunnels could remain low. In Nordic countries (that was the first to do long distance electric in Europe) due to the very long distance we had to use AC electric, and that could only be used in overhead wires. Because they had to be on a safe level to the steam locos, they had to be installed quite high, hence all the tunnels needed to be be raised, scraped or rebuilt, and also bridges over the railway. But becasue this was done in the very early 1910, this was not that common, so it was a fairly small work. This spreed in Europe and basically all of Europe was electrified before it even as started in the UK. By the time the work started in UK it was to late to remove all tunnels and bridges. It was to many of them

i belive only long distance trains are double deckers and where there are tunnels on the way they only use trains that can pass trough tunnels local trains are always single

Tampere is maby 250 000. So alot bigger than Turku but still. The city center in Tampere is easy to navigate and the best place to be in the summer.

17:00 It's also considered rude to eat on public transportation. Apple or a banana might be ok, but a burger, never. It makes the whole train stink. Go to the restaurant car and eat there what they sell or buy something that doesn't smell to eat at your seat.

I actually really dislike Hesburger. My family used to go to Carrols a lot when I was a kid but after the chain was sold to Hesburger the quality dropped and I can only remember few visits to Hesburger after that. I have also been a vegetarian for almost two decades now and remember how I couldn't really eat anything at Hese (but then again, I used to work for McD and knew exactly what was safe for me to eat). These days I don't eat much fast food as I don't see it worth the cost, but if I do I usually go for Taco Bell or McDonald's. Granted, my displeasure for losing Carrols might've tainted the taste of Hesburger for me, but I also don't like Burger King while many people sing their praises so maybe my tastes simply don't align well there.

There are also speculations about climate warming making Finland's winters colder. That is if ice melts around Northern seas and collapses the Gulf Stream system. If that happens also England would get colder I think and the whole Northern Europe.
