Kabir, the Tomb Guard badge is one of the rarest badges a U.S. Army soldier can obtain and actually can be revoked if the badge holder later disgraces themselves in a way that dishonors the Tomb.

I need a nap. I’ve been trying to figure out why the Tomb Guard Badge was named Kabir. I got this notion from “Kabir, the Tomb Guard badge is one…” I really need a nap. Not that I’d be upset if it WAS named Kabir, I’d just remain puzzled.

I don't care if it's at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier or Buckingham Palace, I would never disrespect a person serving their country in uniform. It just blows my mind how some people (mostly young people) behave in situations where restraint and respect are required. Have their parents done them such a disservice as to never teach them how to show respect? When you see someone serving in uniform, they don't have to earn your respect. They should have it automatically.

Interesting fact: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Vietnam War is in fact empty. There was originally a body entombed in it. However, a POW/MIA activist discovered the unknown’s identity and notified his family. The family lobbied and brought enough political pressure to have the body exhumed. The identity was then confirmed through DNA testing. On July 10, 1998, the remains of U.S. Air Force 1st Lt Michael Joseph Blassie were returned to his family for reburial. Then a decision was made to leave the tomb vacant. The slab covering inscription was redone from “Vietnam” to an acknowledgment honoring all missing servicemen from 1958-1975.

Interesting story. I was in military school in the late 80's. Got a chance to go to Washington on a school sponsored spring break. Visited Arlington and actually got inspected by the members of the old guard. We were warned that they were perfectionist. Now a lot of people and organizations "claim" that they are perfectionist, but the old guard, they are actually really, really serious about it. I got dinged and yelled at for a couple of minutes by a member of the old guard because a piece of string on my hat was maybe 1/16 of in inch out of perfect. Its why I have the upmost respect of not only of what they do, but everything they do, everything they prepare for is absolutely precise, and every single thing they do is with purpose and respect.

Unfortunately some tourists believe that everything we do is theater put on for entertainment for them. The military takes honor and respect very seriously, as they should.

I've been to Arlington a few times. Watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb & several funeral processions. Definitely a sacred sprawling space that demands & deserves the utmost honor & respect.

He wasn't burning the lint, he was burning the stray strands of the stitching. If you pluck them it negatively impacts the integrity of the uniform. The only badges that are rarer are the astronaut badge and the military horseman identification badge..

I've seen similar disrespect from tourists with the Buckingham Palace guards and their horses. I'm shocked they let people get that close to them for photos. People can't keep their hands off the horses and even grab their reins! Simple manners have definitely hit new lows in today's culture.

You definitely shouldn't mess with the guards at Buckingham Palace, and you certainly should stay behind the white line. They can be scary. (But, then again, they've got a job to do.)

When you are visiting the tomb you see the signs telling you what not to do and do, like be silent. You can’t speak loudly. You can feel the atmosphere as one being respectful. I feel the same while walking around the Vietnam memorial. You feel like you have to whisper. It’s so solemn. People are so stupid like rules don’t apply to them.

My visit many years ago with a school tour group impressed upon me two words that seem to encapsulate the entire concept of the Tomb of the Unknowns: Love and Respect. Love for the departed servicemen and women and their families and respect for their ultimate sacrifice and dedication. Our school was fortunate enough to be asked to participate in the wreath-laying and you could have heard a pin drop during that ceremony. Unreal experience.

Love your vids. You are smart and have a great sense of humor. You are thoughtful in how you consider the videos you are reacting to. You share your thoughts openly. Lots to like. So, thanks for doing what you do. Stay awesome. [mid-video edit - when you said "do they get to wear ear buds? I totally lost it. It just gave me lots of other mental images like dancing guards, texting all day as they walk, etc.] Their focus is amazing. I agree with you that they are "built" different. The attention to detail and teamwork = awesome. Dedication 100. If I ever got a chance to meet a tomb guard, it would be an honor. But, I would make sure they are off duty and I get a verbal invitation before walking closer. :)

I got to experience this in person back in 1999. Everyone in the crowd was extremely respectful. When you take in the whole of the ceremony and its meaning, it’s so moving to see it in person. I’m not sure if you caught the part where they said the soldiers have to memorize 35 pages of information and recited without error. 😵

You must really now cover the video of the Unknown Warrior, buried in Westminster Abbey, if you have not already seen it, try to find the longest video so that you get the full story, explains why and where these monuments originated or so it is thought, also gives an insight into the wearing of The Poppy.

I've visited Lenin's tomb in Red Square. They only allowed controlled groups to file through the enclosure at a time. Every person is being watched continuously, and must keep walking through, and not take any photos. It was intimidating.

My guess is that some tourists think these guards are like the King's Guard in England/London where it's a joke to try to get them to laugh or look at you. I've visited before and taken a picture from a respectful distance, but never provoked a guard. You're right - WHY?? There are places to have fun, but the Tomb of the Unknowns is NOT one of them.

The title of the video conjures a problem that does not exist (typical for most US military videos). A quick search turns up only one incident of potential violence at the Tomb in the past several decades. It was committed by an ex-soldier with mental issues.
