When you were paused over the University of Michigan stadium, that's the Big House, seating capacity is a little over 107K, but they've had crowds over 115K. That's about an hour from me. They missed a few epic traditions here because these were just entrances. Auburn releases an Eagle from the top of the stands, and as it flies around the stadium they continue the War Eagle chant until it lands at midfield. Colorado is led out of the tunnel by a 1600+ pound Buffalo at a full charge. At the end of every West Virginia game the whole crowd sings Country Road together. College football is bigger in the South. Pro football is bigger in other parts of the country.
@MichaelDawson032 жыл бұрын
@Tim kinley College Football is pretty big in Ohio, with Ohio State being nothing to sneeze at. I enjoy the pro game more than the college game myself. Now, I also have to acknowledge the original commenters thoughts and make an observation. I have been to games in Cleveland (Browns fan here), and games in Cincinnati. The environment is completely different in the two stadiums. This is not bias speaking, Cleveland does a much better job than the Bengals do with game experience. Cleveland spends money on it, Cincinnati treats it like an after thought. Ohio State is a completely different beast. The pageantry is amazing. From the Skull sessions, to the Script Ohio, to the half time show ... to the Hang on Sloopy ... it's an amazing experience. I have been once, when Ohio State was playing Penn State, both Fox Big Noon Kick-off and ESPN College Game Day were there. You don't get a bigger environment for College Football than that. As great as that was, I still prefer the stadium experience in Cleveland than the stadium experience at Ohio Stadium. However, I would take Ohio Stadium 100 times over an experience in Cincinnati (except for the times Cleveland fans show up and dominate the stands. I have been to games in Cincinnati where it felt like a Browns home game, that's how many of us where there). So even in one state the experience is different between college and pro. Here in Ohio, as fan's and as stadiums, we do both well and I am proud of that (Our Pro teams leave a lot to be desired on the field, except or flash in the pan years).

The reason college fanbases are more fanatical is because you have something to fight for and something to lose. In the NFL, you lose, you just say “There’s always next week.” In college, there is no next week, there is here and now. All the jumping at Virginia Tech games does register on the Richter scale sometimes, it did at out first game of this season, which was about 3 weeks ago. Also, that rock the players touched as they ran in was a hokie stone. All the buildings on techs campus have at least a little bit of hokie stone on them. It's just limestone, but it comes from one specific quarry in Virginia. Another thing about techs entrance is that it's different now than it was in the video he watched. They play more of Enter Sandman, they don't cut it off right before the singing starts. About half of the song plays, it cuts off right before the start of the second chorus, and we all scream the lyrics every time

In my opinion, you're absolutely right to like the college game more than the pro. The NFL might make more money, spend more money, and attract more eye balls, but college football fans are definitely more passionate. There's so much more pageantry, tradition, and rivalry in the college game. In fact, rivalries barely exist in American professional sports anymore, although they used to (see Yankees vs Red Sox or Red Wings vs Avalanche). College football teams can often fill stadiums even when they haven't been very competitive for a while (see Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, etc), but the pros and other college sports cannot
