I had one of these, a 1.8T. While I had it I upgraded seats to leather and fitted the bigger brakes from a scrap V6 car, refurbished of course. It was the best car I have ever had. I regret selling it before emigrating. I took my MGF with me and with hindsight I should have taken the 75 instead. The chap who bought my 75 emailed me a week later saying how pleased he was with the car.

Currently about to buy a 99 Connie, also 2.5 with 170k. VIS motors/intake and cooling fan are problematic on the KV6'es, otherwise they seem rather bulletproof.

I've just bought a 99-V Connoisseur 2.5 V6. My first venture into Rover 75's so found this video fascinating and inspiring. My wife has an 03 Mercedes E270cdi. Its the Avantgarde so it was the top spec model, but my 75 matches it for spec/trim level and betters it with having heated fully electrically adjusted front seats. 1-0 to the British 👍🇬🇧

Great video(s) - as a 60 something Aussie, who happens to own & love a 2004 Connie SE - a pleasure to watch. It is quite refreshing to know that there is a member of the "younger generation" who is so invested in British Autos & displays that enthusiasm in such an honest way. Restores my faith that the world has a lot to look forward to!!! Further, I can for-see a bright future for you in the media. Well done & keep the "Classic British" vehicle videos coming.

You're a Rover 75 nut and unexpectedly so young as I have similar love of this and get called some old names for my love of them. I have just bought my third one (a 2.5 V6). Despite having a modern Nissan, I couldn't resist this one in amazing condition and have spent more than the car's value on Timing belts etc etc etc, but hope it turns out worth while. Shame they were sold out and asset stripped it seems. Good luck.

I had two of these company cars. I simply loved them but the only fault I found with them was the lack of leg room in the rear. It was an extremely comfortable car and excellent for long journeys.. I spend a lot of time in China and this brand bought by SAIC (Shanghai Automotive) was rebranded as the Roewe and stretched to give more room in the rear. It is known as the Roewe 750i.

The Timing Belt ( and 2 x cam belts) together with the Thermostat is expensive if you go to a garage (around £1,200) but it is possible for the home DIY mechanic and you can do it for around £300 which is all the belts, pulleys, water pump, thermostat and coolant. I did mine over the summer (and I'm not a mechanic) and just followed the instructions in the Haynes Manual and also a couple of detailed videos on KZbin about it. Yes it will take you a day or two to do but it can be done over a weekend. The Thermostat is a must to replace ... located on the nearside side of the engine underneath the air intake manifolds. When I removed mine the thermostat pipes linking the nearside and offside sides of the engine just shattered (like crushing egg shells and this is a common fault). When buying a replacement you have to make sure that the thermostat and pipes are genuine Rover Parts as patient parts usually leak water and a failed thermostat/pipes can wipe the engine out in seconds. The Rover 75 Owners Group ... the75andztclub.co.uk has members who are more than willing to help you maintain your 75 or offer you advice on problem solving, maintenance, etc and you will also be able to obtain cheap parts and insurance for your 75. Members also have the Rover diagnostic software to allow you to adjust the settings on your car (allow all 4 windows to open or close at the same time with just a turn of your key, or to lock all the doors when you start to drive and reach, say, 5mph .... etc) and usually member will do this for free or the price of a cuppa tea. Enjoy your 75.

Great review of a very under rated car. Back in 2002 I moved from the UK to Thailand, I happened to live a few hundred meters from a Rover dealer, they closed in late 2002 and the building was changed into a KFC! Anyway in Thailand Rover cars were considered to be real luxury cars. I lived there till 2016 and became involved with the classic car scene there. Interestingly, In Thailand it's the car that is insured rather than the driver, and very good full third party insurance for ANY car and ANY age driver costs about 100 UK pounds for a year, that's much more expensive than the legal minimum insurance which costs about 15 UK pounds. There are many 90's Rover cars over there in mint condition and driving around one of the hottest cities on earth (by average daily temp) and never overheating or breaking down.. I think it's because they are valued more and proper maintenance is incredibly cheap. In the UK, unless you can tackle maintenance and basic repairs yourself it's tough on your wallet driving an older car.

I had 2 of these in the same colour (white gold) a Classic SE CDT and Connoisseur SE CDT. I like him thought the cars were so beautiful and I loved the retro design. I dont agree with him on some things really. The quality inside was mixed. The diesels like mine only had 115bhp which meant it was very underpowered. They later added an extra 15bhp to them. the economy was not good either. My second car and these were both W reg was the most unreliable car I have ever had. It never passed its MOT without over £1000 in expenses. In the end I had to sell up. Apart from having to have deep pockets I still loved the cars. I think even today it still doesnt look dated.

man this video nearly convinces me to keep mine! I've got a green V6 auto, owned it for the past 17 years and I still love the car. But with 22 years and 220 tkm on the clock the minor issues are starting to pile up. Besides not being able to find a good quiet muffler (which diminishes the experience quite a bit), sadly it has started to lose coolant and the garage said there is no external leakage, meaning gasket failure. Besides that Rover still had great build quality, for a car this age the interior is still very nice and the ride is just fantastic (I replaced the entire suspension five years ago though). I just bought a new Family car with DCT, but I really miss the smooth ride of the 75 (still parked outside). The 75 is no BMW, the style is old fashioned as is the handling, but in that it was perfect. Thanks for your drooling review of this stunning example and greetings from Austria.

I owned one of these exact same colour and spec. Loved it, beautiful inside and out, Unfortunately it broke down at least half a dozen times with electrical faults, finally the garage discovered that the wiring loom was worn and causing systems to short out, once that was repaired it was fine but so annoying it took two years to discover this.

The superb 75 I have the CDTI 2 litre. Style, finesse, great m.p.g. ....probably the best looking car made in years. The Italians thought so too.

It says a lot about a car when the Italians name it 'the most beautiful car in the world'!

Yes, and it gets better looking and more elegant as time goes by, due in part to new cars becoming uglier and more brutal looking with each iteration. I've had a 2003 CDTI Club SE identical to the one in the video apart from fabric seats, for over 15 years. To say it's the best car I've ever owned is an understatement, the BMW motor perfectly matched to the Getrag manual gearbox, in itself a rarity nowadays. Most other cars i've driven over this period seem to have gear ratios that have been pulled out of a hat and are like vans by comparison. I bought the car initially for work and it was perfect on the motorway leaving one fresh even after big miles at high speed and now in retirement it's just as happy "toddling" around....

That name you weren't sure about is pronounced roughly as Burnt Pea-shets-rider. I love the lines if these 75s. A lovely throwback to the elegance of the P4 and P5. Wish there were more of these elegant designs on the roads nowadays.

I really like this car. Not too many came to Australia but the V8 was a highlight.

As a fellow 19 year old, I’ve actually found that insurance is incredibly cheap on these. The 2.5 V6 actually had similar quotes to my current K11 Micra 1.0

Doesn't surprise me to be honest, there can't be many 19 year olds with a 75. I was 11 when the 75 and S type were launched and have always liked them.

Lucas the Prince of Darkness! Did they try to build a computer while you were there? Because they couldn't make it leak oil or blow smoke, they gave up.

Now this brings back childhood memories !. My dad had one of these as a company in the early 2000s. It looked lovely but had terrible reliability issues, we could only take it back to the dealership (that was a bit renowned for their shoddy work), as that's what whoever the company was leasing it from wanted. I think it spent more time in the garage then on the road. I remember on one visit they failed to fit the dashboard back in place 😂, after that he steered clear of company cars and brought a Hyundai accent which didn't really ever have any problems and was still running fine when we sold it about 7 years ago.

Btw, the 800 wasn't on a 'Honda platform': it was a completely co-developed car as Honda didn't have a large sedan at the time.
@TwinCam
@TwinCam 4 жыл бұрын
I know. The platform was shared with Honda, and the Legend was Honda’s first big car. So Honda do owe a lot to Rover for that. I can’t remember what I was talking about when I mentioned this, but I assume it was suspension? Honda insisted on double wishbones for the 800, while with the 75 Rover were free not to.

We had two Connoisseurs, a series one like this one and a series two. The second one did 76,000 miles with no trouble whatsoever. It needed no new exhaust or battery or any other repairs. The only thing that made us change was the concern about spares. They were extremely comfortable and definitely turned heads. They were the best cars we had had since our Triumph 2.5PI - a very different beast.

Hello Ed. Thanks for this video. I still see these on the road in my native Birmingham and down in South West London. Rover made some pretty forgettable cars but this was a gem and it was a shame that it came towards the end of the Rover story. When the company was finally bankrupted, the remaining stock of 75's were sold off by the receivers at knock down prices so suddenly taxi companies in Birmingham had these cars and a couple of years of high mileage later they were scrapped
