The same cannot be said for the hijab, you can still see the person's face. If niqab was banned, UK would still be one of the best countries for religious freedom. Compare to other countries like Islamic ones, in Saudi Arabia you can't practice any other religion except Islam publicly and other religious buildings such as Christian churches are banned. Overall point, UK is secular and there is big religious freedom - however, there must be balance and if most of the population feels unsafe because of the niqab then it is perfectly acceptable for it to be banned.

@@xx-xv8co i'm talking about all the women in hijab in this video. anyways, she says she has every right to cover herself up from head to toe. truth is, they shouldn't have the right to do so in our western societies. that's what is wrong. i can't make it have any kind of sense. would they take it off when the go to the bank? if yes, then why not taking it off when having a conversation? hiding from the gaze of men? nonsensical. how does it make sense when they say 'hey guys, you have no idea who i am, what i look like, how are my face's expressions when talking to you, but you shouldn(t be afraid of us... even though we act the complete opposite way as your values, customs and History were built, the freedom of expression, Women's rights to be equal and not camouflaged , with no identity and.... yeah, should you ever criticize our beliefs, we'll give threats and hatred to all who don't accept hijab in the UK' it starts with the hijab which, as a woman, i find more than insulting, and what's next? shall we talk about homosexuality? about education for girls? etc... it's not just one person. it's not 20 persons, it's hundreds of thousands of people that will do anything so that islamism (not islam, islamISM) finally settles in our western civilisations. 'it's wrong to say all muslims think alike when one of them talks'... no. what's wrong is to think that it is not a large majority of them who think the same. there's facts all over, be it in Europe, or in Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria etc. it's right in our face, yet there are still people who's say 'it's wrong of you to generalise'... i hope you think the same when people say 'white people are all inherently racists'.

What is so interesting to me about this subject is that many countries around the world where Muslims are immigrating to are having difficulty with the Muslims integrating into the cultures they have chosen and asked to be a part of but fail to consider that culture and do nothing to ease their own way, or the way of the citizens of that country. In short, they have no consideration for the culture they are asking to belong to and expect instead to be accommodated. This is why so many countries are now slamming their doors shut to Muslims and even deporting them. They must consider that their way of being is very foreign to non-Muslim cultures and it is they who must adapt, not the citizens of the countries that are allowing them in.

I happened upon this video by chance. This was 10 years ago. I do not think multiculturalism has worked out well for Western society. Since there have been quite a few Jihadist incidents in Western cities, I would venture to say many people who are not Muslim would be frightened if they saw a person wearing a full burka a hajib and a niqab with only their eyes visible. This might work well for Muslim women in traditional Muslim countrues where this type of dress is the norm, but not in mainstream Western society. Whatever happened to When in Rome do as the Roman's do? I think respecting the norms of a society puts the majority of the people more at ease. Furthermore, as far as schools are concerned, educators found that certain types of garb are distractinfg to the students and incite behavioral problems. Hence, uniforms for students are now becoming more of the norm.

Wearing a niqab is against face to face communication, its repressive to women whether they choose or not to wear it in such circumstances and is basically anti British. It’s also something I regret and am offended at because it goes counter to these communication ideals of British people. You can’t know if someone is smiling for example or other body language. I also find it an expression of hiding and actually shutting down ones personality. I would not ban it, but certainly at work, in schools, courts, banks and public and private places it should not be allowed and be discouraged and it should be ok for restaurants or supermarkets to ask people to take it off eg for cctv camera and public safety purposes etc, free of fear of any discrimination. Its a great opportunity to redesign the muslim women's dresses. For an example we just saw the Nigerian women in the news recently who are Muslim and they dress beautifully they are well covered, most of them are. Their hair is wrapped up. They certainly are dressing modestly and I think it's lovely. The clothes are designed not to reveal the woman's shape and from head to toe they are covered. They're not wearing a tent when they can be carrying all kinds of stuff underneath it with their arms hidden. It's not about being Muslim it's about the burqa.

I think the biggest issue is that in Western culture we read mannerisms, facial expressions and this forms either trust or no trust between people. I myself watch how people interact with others and their behaviour before interacting with them and barring this will decide whether or not I wish to engage. This is how I am in general with all humans and this is why others don’t feel comfortable interacting with a black sheet and a voice, we need interaction where we can see a person. This is not what it means to be human, we are born naked - we should be feeling the sun on our skin, we should be able to smell the fresh air and to be able to swim in the ocean and lie on grass with nature on our bodies. It’s super strange to me that one would hide from this privilege when they can be free.

(with the exception of places like; courts of law, hospitals, police etc. where it is important to be able to see someone's face to establish trust etc.) I think the issue lies with the fact that it is perceived as being a tool of the oppression of women and a form of othering and keeping people at bay.
