Then I learned on tonight’s news who she was and that she had died. And you wonder why we Scots feel marginalised and unrepresented. Many Scots wasted their lives fighting an evil for an evil. Their lives forgot and not appreciated unlike their English counterparts. We don't exist to you. Please be more mindful that the UK wouldn't exist without us Scots. Don't forget it. I can't wait for the day Scotland is freed from Westminster and actually co-exists as equals to the world.

@@joemanton2340 Yeah for the rUK it would be, not so much for Scotland I would imagine. I want to and have clarified in my previous reply that I hold my annoyance and contempt to Westminster and the elite in England. Nothing against English people for that would be ignorant since we are all under their knee. Sadly this idea of England and the UK being interchangeable has been exported so well to the rest of the world that only a couple of times on holiday either to Europe or overseas have people known what Scotland is or that there is four supposed "equal nations" in the UK. I'm sick of my national identity being labelled a regional identity and the same as British/English (see what I did there). Being Scottish means to hold a broad set of values that includes being welcoming to migrants, proud of our country and hardworking.

Dame Vera Lynn was the last living well known person and well known at the time from the Second World War. (Prince Phillip, who fought as a naval officer in the war seeing action at the Battle of Cape Matapan in 1942, only became well known when he married the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947). Although there are still a very few War veterans still alive, the youngest would now be in their middle to late 90s since the War ended 77 years ago, in many ways her death marked the moment when the War passed from living memory into history. However, her songs will never fade from memory and her moving and beautiful songs sang so well by Dame Vera will forever be her legacy, And her songs will be heard for as long as humanity survives. May she Rest In Peace, maybe up there she is singing her songs to those who fought in the war who predeceased her.
