Fellow Daniel here from the UK. Ukraine has the truth on her side and no matter how much Russia tries they cannot and never will erase the truth. I hope we can get you all the support you need; militarily and economically. I see a new era of partnership between the heroic Ukrainian people and the UK and I hope we become great friends moving forward. You literally won't find anyone here who doesn't stand behind Ukraine in this war so we are all with you. Slava Ukraini! Glory to the Heroes, Glory to Ukraine! I forgot to add, I live in a small village and the village shop has the Ukrainian flag flying. So no matter what happens, just know that thousands of miles away your flag is proudly flying where it cannot be touched by brutal Russian bombs.

I took the liberty to translate the lyrics to Ukrainian for you to sing it to instrumental versions of our song:

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best The love that never falters, the love that pays the price The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice And there's another country, I've heard of long ago Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know We may not count her armies, we may not see her king Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering And soul by soul, and silently her shining bounds increase And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace

Respect from Portugal. The Treaty of Windsor, that our two nations signed in 1386, is much older than the petty thing called "European Union". Actually, it's the world's oldest recorded alliance between two nations. May the friendship between the Portuguese and the British last forever.

That's a nice thing to say but, I think it's because our culture's are very aligned. It's a pity that our history has that spell between 1900-1950 where we were enemies as we make very good allies due to our culture's being so similar. Hindsight may be a wonderful thing but, had the wars not have happened the world would be a better place due to the Anglo Saxon links with Britain and Germany.

🤔 But you you didn't in the mid 1770's - nor did you in 1812! 🤨 - And it was only a handful, 6,500, that volunteered to come stand (or more accurately fly) & fight along sidewith us in 1940 - & most of them had to do it via Canada because the US didn't condone it. 😕 Happy to get rich, screw us over, with Lend/Lease (& later the Marshall Plan) oh yes! Britain didn't charge the French/Belgians/Dutch/Norwegians/Polish/Czechs etc etc. for our help - & we supplied them all safe refuge when they were in need, despite our own desperate state. 😒 "Special Relationship"? My arse! I'll let 'you' off not helping

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we The torch; be yours to hold it If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. #Remembrance Lest we forget.

It's probably the music of Gustav Holst (inspired from folk tunes of the Essex village Thaxted). Music does have that power. It's like hacking nationalism into your soul :p That's why it's such a shame when it's used for the national propaganda of any nation. You take something universal and selfishly try to hide it in your little pocket. I guess that's going to be an unpopular opinion though, given that this comment section is filled with people regarding the EU as a communist union and praising Trump as a liberator so... feel free to dislike.

I remember singing this during my remembrance party at high school on Friday 9th November 2018. I loved how respectful the school was and I did the bravest thing by actually going on stage in front of the entire hall and thanking all the staff for doing this for our fallen heroes and I literally had a breakdown for real. I remained on stage during the minute silence because I could hardly stand properly because of how moved I felt

I remember singing this hymn in assembly at school and I have always loved it. I just read the words and it invokes courage and valour. But I am dismayed to read some of what has been posted below. Read the hymn again and think. The wars were WORLD wars. My grand-uncle is lying in a grave in Portsmouth having come from Jamaica to fight in WW2. Many others from the 'other country'... 'heard of long ago' laid down their life for the very freedom we now enjoy. Let us be grateful to those who took part no matter where they come from.

I sing this in music class (btw I'm german) .... Normaly I hate singing in front of anybody but when my friend with british ancestors startet to sing with me... I can't discribe it... It was just magic how good it sounds even with just 2 people... After that my teacher wanted that I write down the lyric's and then the whole (mostly lazy) class started singing... Thank you Britain for that nice song :D

And thank you to for your beutiful music. Theres just such pride in german traditional music that i cant help but feel patriotic to a country that i dont even belong to. Much respect from the uk! : D

@@reuben8531 At 1st: Thank you that you tried to translate everything! It was mostly right :) 2nd: I don't like german music that much because I think that we german's don't have a musical voice but thank you that you don't say that every german song is a song out of the 2nd World War...

@@ShivaDaRealG 1st thank you. German isn't my strong suit but im glad you could at least understand it 2nd yes, its really is a shame that alot of people compare old german music to the second world war period when german history and music goes far before that...

I am proud to be an American, but I do so love this song! As I’m sure many of you know, the music is an excerpt from Gustav Holst’s “Jupiter”. My favorite piece of classic music, by the way! When Holst was supposed to write music to go with the poem, he was tired and overworked. So he was delighted to find that part of his work “Jupiter” would work just fine with the poem. And that is how “I vow to thee my Country” came to be. It should also be noted that Holst was British.
