Britannia Runs Hot!

The gales were blowing again across the station for three steam trains through the Citadel Station - plus other trains!
Britannia arrived from Leicester a little late after a slower than planned run from Grayrigg Down loop. I didnt see all the checks going on when she arrived (as you'll see I went for a different view of the loco) but Britannia had been running hot and was to be removed from the train.
I didnt see Tangmere arrive - too busy photographing the 7P but caught it being taken to Upperby.
When the Lakelander stock headed for Upperby it was realised both trains couldnt fit into the loop with Tangmere taking water. The Lakelander stock was brought back into the station to await The S&C Steam Special going onto the N&C line to turn.
Then the third steam of the day when 45212 and a CDL fitted set of coaches were hauled through, with a brief stop in the station. Heading to Crianlarich before heading on the Sunday to Fort William for Jacobite duties remuming on the Monday.
The Lakelander headed out to Upperby again to drop off Britannia.
Meanwhile Tangmere had a very steamy start through the gales, returning its train to Liverpool.
Finally 47805 headed off with the Lakelander for the S&C and Leicester.

Interesting to see some of those moves from a different spot to the ones I used - and you caught a couple of movements I missed as a result of socialising with long-lost friends. We both suffered from the wind - and Rennies wouldn't have helped much on this occasion!

I missed a few moves thanks to socialising too! Only regret was not going to Upperby to see Britannia being 'dismantled'

That's because Rennies, and other similar, are useful for 'trapped wind'. You don't get that in Citadel.

A shame Brittania had to fail. I saw on another video they were preparing to remove the rod and then take her back to Crewe on Monday 15/04/2024. I did not know the Black 5 was going through as well What a busy day for steam. I had a good day out to see the new build Clan and B17 workshops

The Black 5 was expected as I;d seen on a podcast mention that they will resume Jacobites on Monday 15th. Brittania is to be hauled with motion disconnected late monday - might be too dark unless I go to Penrith or somewhere. Looking forward to the Clan

I hope you can get to see Britannia in daylight, as for the Clan they estimate 2029 so a while to wait Good news is Duke of Gloucester is not far from being ready, around July August, they have done some more modifications and they hope for even better performance with those done. She showed her power last time out on the main so it sounds like the return will be fantastic.
