A visit to Carlisle by Tangmere was a great way to start the new steam season. Thank you Les.

What a stunning location St Nicholas bridge must have been for anyone with a long lens (and - yes - they did exist in those days!) before the catenary was installed. Liked the slippy, typical Bulleid, departure which was hidden from those of us on Platform 3 by that wonderfully timed Pendolino's arrival. Perhaps if Platform 1 hadn't been out of action they might have put it in there.

It was although I've not seen too many from there taken before 1973. They would have had the advantage of seeing Crown Street goods being shunted maybe but only the steam from the goods lines. The driver did take it slowly so that you still got a view of Tangmere leaving. I think ideally Tangmere would have been in 3 and the Pendo in 1.

A couple amazing locations and angles to add today. Hard to read about the delays, though. As always, I get the TPEs and more, but really enjoyed the red/maroon coaches and seeing more UK steam!
@LeslieGilpinRailways10 ай бұрын
Thanks Anthony.The delays to the steam were convoluted and more worrying the more I hear. Those coaches did look shiny

Thanks Tim. It did put on a decent show. There are some cracking vids around of it on the hills but having been out driving the previous day I was not going to go any distance for Tangmere.

Quite an eventful day and a view from a different bridge, too. I heard the steamer as I walked to the football.

I like the view from St Nicholas bridge on a nice day but it is a bit exposed and can catch the wind. Thanks for watching

Its a good place looking north. I assume you mean the chap at the start who kept shouting Train Spotter (yes that's what he said!). Fortunately I didn't catch much of language from the football chanters later. Thanks for watching

Thanks for sharing take care a t b syd👍

Thanks 👍 We WCR brought out this Mk2 set but they only have Tangmere thats air braked and available I understand. Pathfinder's next steam will use that blue and white set from Burton on Trent so probably Tangmere again until Tornado is available.

Great stuff as ever, Leslie. They do keep the boiler right to top pressure, Tangmere and others. A smashing finish to her though. What was it delayed everything at Lancaster? Must've gotten tedious in production! A great start to the season and here's looking forward for more. Thanks Leslie. Keep Safe, sir. Cheers

The Lancaster issue was only for an hour or so but affected northbounds. Tangmere was well polished on its first run this year I suppose. Thanks for watching

Amazing stuff at Carlisle why was 34067 going from Carlisle to Crewe
@LeslieGilpinRailways10 ай бұрын
Thanks. The excursion was from Euston but a 3-hour late departure from Preston due to points failure prevented it going further south than Crewe before the railway shut for the overnight maintenance window..
@roboftherock10 ай бұрын
Since the Cumbrian left Euston some 50 mins late and incurred only another 10 minutes en route, it did well considering that the planned schedule and paths were history and the new schedule was probably being made up 'on the fly'. I didn't realise that TANGMERE was suffering from wheelslip leaving Citadel. I thought it was going slow to let those at the S end of Pl. 3 a chance to see it leave after that Pendo blocked the view. I've just noticed that the unchecked, unnecessary growth on the tracks has gone. A work crew - or was it helped away by Gerrit, Isha and Jocelyn? Finally, just to get my bearings sorted, is St Nicholas Bridge, the one captured above the Freightliner 66 at the end?
@LeslieGilpinRailways10 ай бұрын
St Nicholas bridge is the one at the south end before you get to Upperby.It also separately crosses the Goods line and the Newcastle line! I hear that the outbound delay was due to the 86 but whatever issue it had must have been successfully resolved. I think time was caught up after Carnforth by an obliging driver in the 47 giving a bit of a push. There was some slip but at the same time I think the driver did oblige the crowd on P3 by going slowly.

Classic Bullied wheelslip on departure, unrecognisable without it, buy why so late everywhere? I presume these steam specials are required to give way to standard passenger services but 198 minutes late and cut short at Crewe!! Anyone know the answer?
@LeslieGilpinRailways10 ай бұрын
No idea why the outbound was late off Euston. The return was delayed at Preston by an extra 150 odd minutes due to a points failure. Thanks for watching
