That engine sounds fantastic Mike. Ballache with the pump though but no problem for your expertise. I wouldn't have a scooby with the pump setup.

I have seen domestic reconditioned pumps set up wrong in the past - there was fuel coming out - but not at the right time!

We had a similar issue with a Cummins pulley was turning on the pump. Had a key way but no key. Started and run sweet as but after a couple minutes the pulley turned on the shaft. The spring washer had compressed flat.

Just as well you are a pretty savvy Mechanic as that would’ve foxed many. It helps if you’ve experienced something similar before but it’s also easy to jump to conclusions. Easy to end up wasting a lot of time and introducing additional faults if not careful unless you’ve narrowed down possibilities and through logical faultfinding isolated the fault.

I became suspicious when I was informed it was a reconditioned pump - in the UK they would have set it up correctly, but here I don't think they know. I just wonder how they have set up the fuelling - I bet it is very lean

On the original Bosch fuel filter head, I'm sure there's a restricted banjo bolt on the return from the pump..... If it's gutless and rough running check that..

It's all about the timing..!! I've just rebuilt my V8 and got the timing 180 degrees out. Got a build up of fuel and blew the valley gasket out... nearly blew my neighbour's head off too... I won't make that mistake again... 🤣🤣

Feel for you Mike. Happened to my Covid RRC v8 EFI new engine. Started but ran like a bastard and backfired like buggery. Eventually sorted it but the shine on the new engine was a bit diminished by the end. The god of rovers only tests his most ardent disciples. Keep smiling 👍

My van has a VE pump… I had it running but the computer said ‘No’(as in pump timing too advanced to adjust) I know very little about pumps but stripped and ‘re sealed’ mine without too much issue. Setting the pump timing has been a journey of wrong info(completely in my case) and misadventure although now I have a few more thing to try out first before I ‘sack it’ and buy a new pump(reconditioned)

Mike, I had a real problem with this blue hoses. I tried several hoseclamps and tightened like hell. The hose is so stabil, really difficult to squeeze.

for servicing the injector pumps, what is typical cost for you in Canada if send to certified shop? i got quoted CAD 900-1500 depending on parts needed.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations Ай бұрын
Very expensive here - you should look into buying an outright rebuilt one from the UK. I have had rebuilt ones done in a shop here and similar problems as this video - timing out and fuelling set so lean it would hardly get into 5th (pretty economical, mind!) I can strip and rebuild them with no problems - except setting them up - has to be done on a test bench - and shops will not accept DIY pumps to be set up on their equipment, as there could be contamination that gets into their equipment - maybe they have not heard of filters...

@@BritannicaRestorations thank, indeed get a reconditioned one from the UK is very similar i pricing and more likely to be calibrated and tested to suit a LR.

Lol! Back in the Boro years ago, you could buy 'reconditioned engines' from the scrapyard, with a 6-month guarantee. They were all shiny black They used to power wash the old engines they took out of cars, paint them, and if they failed within 6 months they would give you another - hoping that it would get to the 6-month point!

As always, it's not that Land Rover engines are shit, the problem is People working on them and finding excuses for their own mistakes. Those engines are boolet proof. I know, I have run since the start of 200 series, with millions of km on them and all i can say is that they stand a lot of shit.
