Car Jumping Competition! Angmering Raceway August 2021

It takes nerves of steel to compete at this event where flying high and clearing the parked cars equals success. Reputations are at stake so the worst thing that a driver can imagine is to stall the engine on approach or even worse bottle it before hitting the ramp.
The real crowd-pleasers accelerate their cars at full throttle and launch their vehicles over a ramp in an attempt to fly over a line of assembled old cars and land safely on the opposite side.
Each attempt was judged on elevation, the reception from the crowd, and of course distance.
13 attempts were made and there were some particularly tense moments when Bradley Sender ended up wedged vertically upon landing and of course when the last contestant was towing a caravan! Most expected the latter to fall well short of clearing the cars but miraculously it made it across and was rewarded by huge roars of approval from the crowd.

Watching that wee Yaris reminded me of my old one.Ran it up to 140,000 miles and traded it in.Regretted it pretty quickly afterwards it was so reliable as well....

Fantasic little cars. We`ve had several. My daughter had one that she never had serviced for 120,000 mile, the engine was running as sweet as a bell even thought the "red tea pot" light (as she called the oil warning light) was on for weeks

they are entirely worthless and no longer road legal. The parts are more trouble and cost to remove. Labour is very expensive in the UK. If they had any value, people would bother to strip them.

People always say the same thing. They can't see the picture bigger at all. If these cars were all stripped instead of jumped where would all the parts go? They'd sit in a garage for months maybe years and then go in the bin. The most important thing they fail to realise though is that when you buy a car you can do whatever you want with it and if that means smashing it up for fun then that's entirely your choice!

@@jonnowright2126 Yes the days are long gone when you could wander around a scrap yard and take parts off an old car, H&S saw to that. All of these cars will have been MOT failures that would cost more to put right than the car would have been worth.

Most of the parts that are valuable (lights, trim, interior, wingmirrors etc.) have been removed anyway. A rusted or written off shell with a motor with the EML on isn't worth anything. The people that race them are all scrappies anyway so if something is worth keeping they'll know it.
