The jump is so huge. These replacing a design from the 60s. That most of the rest of the world had moved on from as far back as the 30s. While the same year this video was shot, the LIRR in New York, was introducing the M7, which at first you might think is basically an American electrostar, but they couldn’t be anything alike. M7 is just a simple stainless steel design meant to be coupled up.

Looks like a turbostar, sounds like an electrostar. Such a beautiful family of trains. My favourite livery still remains the 170 in One livery, but ironically, this was the first out of any of the family i ever traveled on when my late uncle took me & my brother to Southend 🥲💭 Since then tho, i cant hide the fact that i love all the electrostars that came along including the 375, 377, 378 (not as much) 379 & 387 excluding the 376 which i think is the ugly sibling out of the bunch😂 Edit: realised I didn’t mention that they are not only electros and turbos but the capitalstar is also a sibling, and i missed out the 168, 171 & 172

Major League Trainspotting that is where the design is from, 2 things that are different with the Class 357, 1: it is overhead (obviously) and 2: the Class 357 are slightly shorter per carriage but the diesel are even 2 or 3 cars as I know but if u do get 4 car diesel they are slightly longer then the Class 357
@thebrummierailenthusiasts53295 жыл бұрын
yeah they do look similar to the class 171 and 170 turbostars but the different is the class 357 is the electrostar unit operating on C2C services the class 171 turbostars operate on southern services compared to the class 170 they operate services in Scotland and midlands and Yorkshire area as of today

Wish that Bombardier would of built the Class 357s and to be used on the Southend Victoria Line. And on other lines which would of replaced the Class 321 and Class 317 on the West Anglia main line and Great Eastern main line.

Did you know: The 357 is meant to be the class 170s electric sister. Because of how well the 170 was doing (built in 1998 and entered service in 1999 on the Midland Mainline) other operators wanted an electric counterpart to run on its electric lines so the 357 was made.
@MikeWillSee4 жыл бұрын

But first they use my Mark to electric slammed or multiple units the first c2c trains the trains are in network southeast livery
@generalgrievous56154 жыл бұрын
@@superspidey901. no, the 357s come under the electrostar group of engines. Others of that family include many trains used by Southern and southeastern. They were put in service after privatisation. They've never worn nse livery. Although similar in looks, the 170s only come in 2 and 3 car units and are made for small branch lines. The 357s are commuter trains for a mainline railway
@ace-paidinfull52405 ай бұрын
@@generalgrievous5615no hes saying that before the turbostars, electrostars and capitalstars came along, c2c operated using old school slam door trains while what is called national rail today was actually called British rail, but as soon as things went private, the liveries and types of train changed - probably was due to upgrade anyway. They would have looked good in nse livery though. Also there are so many operators almost all of them used 170s 171s or 172s at some point in the last 20y even the 168, not only southern & south eastern.
