ba does do a really great job at filling their flights. flew cape town to london and back plane was hella full in both directions. on the return flight i was prepared to pay for an upgrade but they said no-can-do as there was no space in the other cabins. guessing this must be good for the shareholders

At least those seats are an improvement on the 2-4-2 arrangement they have been using for the past umpteen years. Even on the 787 which is basically the same size as the A350. I can't figure out why they are always full in Club however every time I fly them. And the bullshit of paying for seats in Club is ridiculous.

If you "layover" longer than 24 hours then you still pay the FULL uk departure tax. What you can avoid is the British Airways imposed profit fees from departing from london.

2:00 $600 tax on a fare to N America? That level of taxation really makes me simply cross the UK off visiting if using their airport costs anywhere near that much to simply fly back home, plus when I visited it seemed they have a 20% sales tax on virtually everything but they call it a VAT there not a sales tax. In the US, sales tax ranges from zero to 10% depending on which state.

Dan ... Sorry to see your flight wasn’t up to par 😔. The meal looked lame and I hope it wasn’t because of your dietary choices. I don’t have dietary restrictions so haven’t ever had skimpy meal like that ... still no excuse for Business Class. Also the length of time for meal service is totally without any excuse. Lastly, British isn’t the only one that charges for advance seat selection in Business. I fly Swiss from the States to Zurich a couple times a year to visit my Sister. Swiss charges $149.00 USD each way if you want to reserve the throne seat. That’s on top of the $6,500.00 cost of flying Business Class. That’s just not right. Firstly its NOT British! It may have that name but its owned by IAG out of Spain. The CEO, Cruz, is ex budget airline Vuelling -need I say more? If you want a good Airline try any of the top ten. Qatar, Singapore, ANA, Cathay, Emirates, EVA, Hainan, Qantas, Lufthansa and Thai. Note BA did not even come close.

Love your content as always. Also as a crew member on a major premium airline I love that you understand that airline management are responsible for short comings and not the crew. Many other vloggers such as josh seem to refer to crew as “lazy” and that comes across as insanely entitled and disrespectful. I love that you never complain about crew and can see through on board issues to their origin unlike other vloggers who only see things on the surface and can’t critically think to why things may be a certain way. I have lots of respect for that so thank you. I’m sure the crew were stressed and understaffed on that flight (trust me I know how they feel) as my own airline tends to cut costs on having a reduced amount of staff compared to other airlines in the Middle East or Asia. Great content and videos you’re by far the best airline vlogger on KZbin. Keep it up.

Honestly I think the food you got reallly didn't match my recent experiences in Club World. I flew the JFK route a few times this year and the new catering from DO and Co always impressed me and was the best I've experienced on a central European carrier. Maybe it's because of your special meal, but what you got was definitely unacceptable, especially that everything was wrapped in plastic. Also the waiting times I experienced were much lower. I fly on the A350 to YYZ in December. I hope that my non special meal is living up to what I recently got on my JFK and EWR flights and that by then they either increased stuff or they got more used to the new aircraft. So my conclusion of your video: I'm happy that the seat is great and for all the rest I can only say let's hope it's to the new aircraft and your special meal (Which definitely needs to be better). Cause as I said the new DoCo meals so far were amazing!

I flew BA economy from London to Johannesburg in an A380. I paid some $80 extra to get the best seat in economy. When I came onboard there was a just married couple sitting there. They would't move. The flight attendant was kind enough to take me to a tour around the whole airplane, both upstairs and downstairs, to choose a new seat. I ended up choosing a seat 10 rows from where I should have been sitting. That seat was only half the price, but no refund. Is that a business model? BA overbooking expensive seats? Ok, it's only $40 difference, you could say, but I paid for a product that I did not get.

jonybeam BA don’t have the cameras as they didn’t want to pay. Aircraft have had cameras for a while now, even the B777 but only for the pilots. As the A380 was introduced it became common, all B777’s for example can have cameras on them with the nose gear and bottom view, the A350 though has the amazing tail view and the ones the B777 has. The issue is BA or should I say IAG are cost cutting penny pinchers so they didn’t want to pay to have the live feed streamed into the cabin. Every new aircraft nowadays should have it, all the new Emirates B777’s do. It’s truly a remarkable feature.

Eh that’s fairly standard on every airline. Lufthansa, Emirates, Virgin Australia etc. I had to pay for wifi in Emirates First class. Delivering wifi in the air is expensive, and if it’s free more people use it which makes it slower. Charging for seat selection in business is actually stingy enough that I don’t fly BA because of it.

Thanks for another great review! Spot on comments about the slowness of meal and drink service on BA. Whenever I am sitting downstairs on a 747 or A380 I make it a point to go to the galley after takeoff and put in a drink request, otherwise it can take over an hour to get a drink. This is the downside to having so many business class PAX vs crew. HOWEVER, I have to say I'm surprised by the catering here. The food across the BA offering (including in Club Europe) has been improving steadily over the past 2-3 years and I've not had a bad meal in the last 10 flights (inc prem economy/WTP where you get the same meal as business/CW). I've also never had anything served in plastic in CW. I wonder if the catering quality issues are unique to those with special dietary requirements, perhaps worsened by the less experienced mixed fleet. I appreciate being vegan isn't so "special" these days, but I wonder if it might be fairer to point that out more explicitly? Also, did you request special meals prior to departure? You can do this in the app/ online.

The seat seems pretty much identical to the new Air Canada international business seat. I was on the Vienna-Toronto flight a few days back and I recognize every single feature. Only difference is the colours, loved the seat and had a great sleep.

I really dislike when the FAs let people walk all over the plane. I'd like to piss in a somewhat clean lav, not one used by hundreds of people. Plus there's just that many more people stomping by my seat when i'm tryying to sleep. I recently flew Virgin upper class and the FAs did a great job of guarding the threshold.

BA are just on the back foot with everything nowadays, it’s quite hard to remember the time when they were the world’s best. Their economy is mediocre at best, premium economy I find uncomfortable, business class is disappointing, and BA first is lagging way behind competition - especially as they still seem to think they’re a premium airline. claus stimpfig BA is anything but ‘deluxe’. Their old business class are like hospital suites, and these new ones are incredibly impractical, and a poor use of space. Their first has even less useful features than the new business, and is honestly not worth it when it’s priced on the same level a airlines like Emirates, Etihad, and I’ve even seen it higher than Qatar’s first, which is optimistic to say the least. Virgin is stylish, luxurious, and having flown both in the same classes, I would much rather Virgin’s premium soft product over BA’s naff new hard product any day of the week.

Great service on Air Canada , totally agree. Even had a separate bus for business passengers leaving the aircraft , arriving at Frankfurt. Never will use Lufthansa again towards North America. About Claus Stimpfigs “kleinlicher” comment (the word “kleinlich” describes Mr Stimpfig the best way, as long as he writes this every day 20 times in different flight reviews), for what reason mentioning that there is no first class on Air Canada while we talk about quality on business class product? I like the style for the video but not sure you’re being quite as balanced as you say. You actually rave a lot about the aircraft and seat. So the ‘underwhelming’ aspect was really about the food quality, which was, granted, a special ordered meal with very limited requirements. I hope others flyers had tastier options on the main menu! Also, service is expected to be slow on a new aircraft a few weeks into service. Anyway, hope you can try Virgin’s new seat next to compare - sounds like theirs is a little style over substance in terms of the actual seat, and it’s be good to know how they deal with dietary needs too.

My take is BA have no right to call themselves British Airways. They insist in shuttling everyone to Heathrow from outside London charging more and causing more pollution. As they rarely venture outside their London catchment area they should be renamed London Airways. As for Heathrow, they have over 50% of the slots, which to my mind should be based on customer feed back, so when your rated 55 out of 65 you should automatically loose slots. It pains me that my national flag carrier is so poor in comparison with other airlines. I'm actually shocked that BA serves meals like that. I've flown recently on SQ and TG in business, and neither would ever dream of serving food in plastic! Especially as TG were less than half the price of BA to Australia. SQ were comfortably cheaper too and they offer such a superior hard and soft product, it's embarassing.

Your food was served packed so if you have allergies you can see the ingredients. This only happens if you order a special meal. The opposite of most other airlines, i.e i couldn't let my daughter eat her bread and butter in Emirates business class as they were unpackaged and she has a serious allergy to milk and eggs and I don't trust them 😂

Comprehensive and balanced review Dan. I can`t believe the catering you received, and wonder if it is just because it a special dietary requirement meal, not that this makes it any more acceptable. I understood that the roll out of catering with Do and Co was resulting in a significant lift in the catering standard. I`ve experienced similarly slow service with a few airlines in business, and have to wonder if the larger numbers of passengers now accommodated in premium cabins is a factor. Overall I always enjoy travelling with BA, but agree that the practice of charging a fee for seat selection in Club World is totally unacceptable and simply wrong.

Sorry to know that your experience wasn’t good. I suggest you try Philippine Airlines (PAL) on their new Premium Economy and Business products on their A330 and A350. It’s similar to Delta One Business (PAL uses the Vantage Thompson XL seats 💺 I think). Hope you get to try it soon and give us a shout on what you think 😃

The meal he had was the same serve on premium economy or even economy. Why the crew did not bother to remove the packaging and present the meal nicer. As I flew club world on 777 quite a lots I think the meals are much better than A350

I so get what u wanna say, and I agree it's a shame to get the meal 1h 45min after takeoff, but don't think that doesn't happen on other carriers. I had the same thing, and I'm really upset cuz it's my fav airline, on Qatar from Doha to JNB (also in Business) and I really wanted to sleep so I just ordered a snack and it needed about 2 hours to get the food and get it cleaned. So it's not an BA exclusive Problem.

I went on the A350 on my birthday to Madrid in the new club suite, and the pilot let me in the cockpit! So, for me, it was really fun! Great video Dan! 👍

I totally concur with everything you complained about. I will never understand why they served a bread roll in plastic! Portion size was really small, like three bites! Anybody would probably leave that plane hungry. And one more thing I really don’t understand is having to pay for seat selection, what?? I’ve never heard of this. It’s no wonder British Airways is making huge profits! As always, thank you Dan for another unbiased review. I will not be choosing British Airways anytime soon❤️👍✈️

Dan ... so first off, I totally agree with your criticisms and I hope you share your concerns with British Airways. The meal (really a snack) is really a disgrace for a Business Class meal. I hope it had nothing to do with your dietary choices. I don’t have a dietary restrictions so have not had that happen to me. Still, NOT acceptable for a Business Class meal. I also would not have been pleased with the length of time to complete the meal service. As far as charging for seat selection, British isn’t alone in this rip off. Swiss charges $149.00 USD each way from the States to Zurich for their “throne seat” ... and this is over and above the $6,500.00 tab for the ticket. Now because of length I fly First when I go to visit my Sister and Brother-in-Law. As always, I value your honest opinion, tip my cap to you for paying for your own costs to remain bias free. BA is simply Bloody Awful. I used to fly every month to Houston in the 80's and 90's and they were great. Today the Spanish airline are terrible and don't even care when you complain after spending £3,000 on a flight to Chennai and the service and food was horrible. The so called chief exec says on TV that every time someone complains about BA it hurts him personally. Well he must be constantly in agony!

BA Gold and Silver get free seat selection at time of booking, Bronze free 7 days from departure. Everyone else it’s free at check in. If you want a specific seat before then, pay for it. In summary seat selection is offered for FREE on BA in Club 🤷‍♂️
