Last summer I flew from LHR to Berlin in Club Europe. To be honest I was a little bit disappointed from the Gallarie North lounge. Had expected British sweets like cadbury choclate. Asked one of the stewardess if I could take with me the cutlery. She said yes of course.

Why is the callsign "SHUTTLE" instead of "SPEEDBIRD"? Happy new year!
@noelphilips7 жыл бұрын
BA use the SHUTTLE callsign on most (all?) of their domestic flights. This is from the days when they ran the BA Shuttle from London to Edinburgh/Glasgow/Belfast, and you could just turn up and hop on any of the flights (they ran every hour I believe).
@angeltransportpjects6 жыл бұрын
Penned in fond memory of British Airways 'Super Shuttle' which between 1976 and 2003 served Edinburgh / Glasgow / Manchester and Belfast from London Heathrow (Terminal 1) and made work horses of the Hawker Siddeley Trident and the Boeing 757-236 / Boeing 767-336ER when in service with the Carrier. In recognition 'Shuttle' has been retained as the call sign and trademark identity for an expanded number of services now as is the prefix SHT visually: I too am pretty sure this applies to all domestic services with 'Speedbird' and BAW only in use where services operate to international destinations including Belfast. As the Boeing 757-200 which was the mainstay of the 'Super Shuttle' concept for twenty years left the BA fleet and in line with the 2001 'Future Size and Shape' internal report the decision was taken to 'homogenise' (rather pretentious IMHO alternative to using 'standardise') the operation of all domestic flights beyond 28th February 2003. This removed the 'turn up and travel' ethos completely from LHR to EDI / GLA / MAN services enabling the (smaller) Airbus types and cost reduction measures to be deployed. These measures had already proven effective since their piloting began on Belfast services during 2000. Upon introduction with the Trident in 1976 the 'Super Shuttle' concept was deemed ground breaking but was designed in an era of a labour-intensive / inefficient and less intensive asset (fleet) utilizing and state owned Carrier. Compared with the picture in 2003 which spelt the need for standardization to suit the needs of the Carrier post privatisation (1984) and amidst the vastly different and evolved airline industry of almost three decades later. Sadly thanks to the power of the media changing over the same time period the heralding of a new 'London Airways' era starting around this time overshadowed the benefits! IMHO 'Future Size and Shape' enabled the Carrier to maintain a favourable market position and share having been well researched and compiled in line with expectations. Enabling 'London Airways trading as British Airways' to keep reaching where other national (and Flag) Carriers such as Sabena / Belgium (RIP 2001) ... Malev / Hungary (RIP 2006) and VARIG / Brazil (final RIP in 2009) plus the entities which arose from what Swissair ... Olympic and Alitalia formerly represented no longer reach. Hi there! I really enjoyed watching this. I’m a fearful flyer but I’m actually aiming to book this exact flight (LDN HEATHROW to MAN with BA and then back again) but I’m a little confused in terms of the duration of the flight? So for you I believe it took around 40 minutes and someone else’s video of the journey it took about 35 minuets. But when I go to book the flights, it says the duration is an hour? Obviously as a fearful flyer I’d like to know how long I’m in the air for as I only want to be taking short trips initially. I’d just like to know what the general duration is and why online it says 1 hour! Also I really liked how you showed us actually getting on the plane in the beginning! Super helpful for someone like me
@michaelkitchin96654 жыл бұрын
I think the flight duration you're given when you book includes time for the plane to board and taxi to the runway. They probably give it some leeway for any potential delays.

Great job filming! You finally got the Olympic Dove Livery, plus Business Class! Did you notice, on flightradar24 that lots of BA flights already have the aircraft listed like 1 day before departure? And American flights too. And, sometimes when you look at certain flights at a place, you may surprisingly see the same aircraft there. For example: I was looking at flights at Sao Paulo, then I saw your Air France B777 that you took to YVR! Plus, my birthday is the following Friday! :) One suggestion: LGW > JFK > TPA > LGW, in city terms: London-Gatwick to New York-JFK to Tampa to London-Gatwick
@noelphilips7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yep I flew on it originally before I filmed full flights, so I'm lucky that I've rode on it twice but only one filmed properly :) Yes BA do seem to load the aircraft a few days ahead. Some other airlines do too :) . I have a TPA flight coming soon - albeit from Dallas rather than LGW. Is that OK? :)

First of all; happy new year to you and your family! I have a question; would it be possible to upload the video twice. One with and one without the map? Or maybe take a poll about wether the map should be included ;-)
@noelphilips7 жыл бұрын
Thank you - happy new year to you! Thanks for the map feedback - what are your thoughts on that? Too intrusive? Not really want to see it? It's a lot of work to do that I felt added something (and I'm working on it to make it more accurate and more realistic going forward). Let me know what you think :)
@RaAyAp6 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. To be honest, I find it too distractive. Furthermore, like you said, the accuracy is a problem. As a pilot I would never recommend doing 270kts indicated on final approach ;-) I do appreciate however all the work you put into it, but I wouldn't mind if there was a version without. Looking forward to the video today and wish you a great weekend!

No WAY does G-EUPA still carry this colour scheme?????????!!!!!! Which was originally applied in 2012 to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic Games and given the title 'Olympic Dove' at the time. Given the usual life expectancy or shelf life of such colour schemes with so many other Carriers when applied this has already broken the industry record for longevity to my knowledge with regard to a single aircraft wearing it! Sister ship G-EUPB which carried the second 'London 2012 Olympics' inspired colour scheme (Olympic Flame) has been now repainted following heavy maintenance and in line with what usually applies when these colour schemes appear. With the use of decals spreading in popularity some of the less extensively painted or amended 'logo jets' such as so many of the Emirates Airbus A380s there have been disappear just weeks after modification: The more extensive and total repaints survive the longest and tend to disappear when heavy maintenance and overhaul takes place enabling Carriers to revert back to standard colour schemes. The record holder to my knowledge is (was?) Etihad Airways with Airbus A330-203 A6-EYE which carries their blue 'Manchester City Football Club' inspired colour scheme. Prior to that QANTAS held the record for the length of time Boeing 747-438 VH-OJB carried the 'Wunala Dreaming' colours as passed onto (inherited by) a Boeing 747-438ER during the late 2000s because it proved to be so popular: However 'One Colour Scheme / Multiple Aircraft Carriage' does not count here :o)
@angeltransportpjects6 жыл бұрын
Just been told G-EUPH still in these colours as well ... So that's two aircraft in this scheme still?! Facts still stand about colour scheme's original intention and record breaking shelf life: I'm going to look into whether or not the significance of this livery changed and resulted in it's retention thinks me :o)

Fastest BA Super Shuttle airtime just out of interest was chalked up by one of the Boeing 757s back in July 1990: BA4453 which completed the trip in around 17.5 minutes with G-BMRI assigned that day. Only needed 15,000 feet before descent was required so I was informed: Only cleared to 17,000 feet anyway with shortened trip expected that day but a longer airtime had been estimated. Was on that flight myself at the start of a three week spotting trip to the London Airports. Informed of 'smashed record' when I asked BA flight ops out of interest during trip :o)
