Join me on probably my annual highlight for 2017; a trip on board British Airways First Class. We travel from London Heathrow Airport deep into the heart of Texas, to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Having arrived from Stockholm, Sweden, the video takes us through flight connections and up into the British Airways Concorde Room, where I have a private cabana booked for a couple of hours. I also manage a spot of lunch in the dining area, as well as a spa treatment at the Elemis day spa next door.
Our flight was perfect, with an excellent crew who were very attentive and professional. BA sometimes fall short on food, but the dining experience was excellent, with everything presented to me being very tasty indeed.

Angela Washington you are right Angela, having flown British Airways first class more than 200 times, I agree it's a very good service. Out of the 7000 or so first class flights on medium to long haul International, on a range of carriers, BA is up there, and better than most. I would say avoid the Middle East carriers, because they are not worth the price.

Luis Babicek BA first class, a good first class. Having flown British Airways first class more than 200 times, I can say in all honesty, then I've rarely had a bad flight. And the cabin crew are excellent. The menu, wine selection, ground services, and lounges, especially the Spar, is way more than you'll get on a business class ticket. This includes a la carte dining at any time of day prepared especially for you by a chef.

As long as B.A. keep offering good deals with Club World on my regular long haul route I won't complain. For sure they are not as good as many other airlines but at the price I often pay they're good value.

Hey Paul love the videos! but the sound levels mean we have to constantly grabbing for the mouse or the keyboard tostopit, the music is coming out blasting! if when ur using adobe prem or final cut! next to the channel where the audio is on, theres a ittle speaker setting and if u turn that down to -14 db when youtube normalize youre videoeverything will be hunky dory! hope this helps

This is still one of my favourite aviation videos - I think it's one of the very first I ever watched. I love the funky music at the start and Paul with a touch of swagger in his shades walking to the Concorde lounge. The flight looked terrific. BA First back then was a considerable steup up from the old, awful business class configs.

Last time I flew to Houston was about 40 years ago on a British Caledonian flight from Gatwick. Some old timers might remember their TV ads. They were purchased by BA back in the 80’s I believe.

RiceFlyer Exactly what I was thinking, a good business class but definitely not worth the price BA asks for first class, the first class lounge looked drab and the food worse especially that main course! Doesn't come close to Qatar, Emirates IMO but that in no way takes away from an excellent review from Paul, loved the music!

I love BA first class, was lucky enough to fly to India in the good old days of Tescos/BA Miles gold rush. The concorde room is something else, Eggs Benedict and Champagne for Breakfast. The whole experience is amazing. A different level to Business Class.

I love flying first class every chance I get. My first experience of flying a non domestic (U.S.) carrier was British Airways. I flew in coach but the customer service was amazing. I had come to believe that flying coach meant I had to be willing to be just a number in a seat but not on BA.

Me as well, I hate seeing wealthy people, people going on good holidays especially flying on 1st class, driving fancy cars etc but they deserve what they've done, I'm like you envious, I just work work work, Drives a 12 year old van, most of my clothes are at least 10 years old and full of debts from a failed business 10 years ago. Now living in poverty. These are dreams just never come true on me.

A very nice video, this is your 2nd trip to Houston, I believe. I only flew into and out of Houston once, back in 1966, on a now defunct airline called, Texas International, was headed back to New York City, my home town, from San Antonio (Lackland USAFTC) after my discharge from the USAF It was DC-8. At 12:06, the Kir Royale, as an aperitif, strictly speaking, should've been served in a flute. But perhaps BA recognises that a flute could have too high a centre of gravity in the case of turbulence. So I'll overlook it. This time ;) Great report, Paul.

I know you receive all kinds of requests, but, BA has had direct flights from LHR to Austin Bergstrom for several years. According to Lufthansa, they will have their first inaugural flight from Frankfurt to Austin Bergstrom May 3, 2019. The aircraft designated at this point is the A330. Perhaps you can be on that flight to the capital of The Lone Star State.

Im not overly impressed with BA first - the ottoman cushion looked a bit bobbly, the scone bland and the orange juice not freshly squeezed. These are all tiny things, but when travelling first, EVERYthing should be spot on perfect. For the price you pay! Great vid as always though!

You did fail to mention at the onset of this fabulous video which Houston airport you were going to. I assume you went to IAH Houston-Intercontinental. You may know that Houston has another major airport Houston-Hobby (HOU) where Southwest Airlines has a major operation. I noted the crew said Welcome to Houston without referring to the airport. :)

To be fair British Airways only flies to IAH, ive flown British Airways in and out of Houston three times back when it was LGW-IAH and everytime we land they alway said "Welcome to Houston" and never mention the name of the airport, 90-95% of commercial flights out of Hobby are on Southwest, actually Paul did a video of Chicago Midway to Houston Hobby on Southwest

In the lounge I would have had the soup of the day, Beluga Lentils & avocado with a glass or two of as close to a Rhone blend as possible, and the cheese plate with a glass of port or tawny depending on house and availability. But I salute your choice of the mackerel as that is what I would normally choose. In-flight I would have had exactly the same except I would have done either a rouge if available or the Chardonnay with the salmon and the tawny after the meal. I know it's an apperitif but I always enjoy port to bookend a meal.

First thing you're supposed to do in First Class is when they turn off the seatbelt sign is get up, go to the bathroom and change into your complementary pyjamas. It's so much more comfortable in that and slippers for the trip. Then if you're on a good airline they offer you a pressed set on your way out instead of the one you wore for the trip.

Canadian Plane Spotter an empty 777 is very light on its wheels, that said, his seat is very close to the nose wheel, which lands a bit harder than the very strong and squishy main landing bogies.

That's the same phone I have for my work, so it runs via the internet, so basically phone calls are all free. lol Been looking forward to this one and all the other flights i know you have coming up this week. This does make BA look pretty good in some respects, I know a lot more people will complain and say it just looks like EK or EY business, but they need to understand the markets better to really compare. Over time EK's service and standards are coming down now they actually have to make money. It looked like a very enjoyable flight to be honest with some nice food options and I"m glad you made the most of it. Well after that very British experience, I think its now time I go watch the British Formula 1 GP. Have a great time in the states.

+When I Travel The World Ah so it's almost like Skype. BA are in no way aspirational but with the return J fare being about £1000 plus an upgrade with Avios I don't think you can get better value than that. Mind you I thought they'd brought the amuse bouche back though it didn't make an appearance... One of the good things about making videos like this is it generates loads of comments like "looks like business class" etc etc :-D

+Craig Colligan The best I've flown with is probably Finnair. Haven't tried any Asian or Middle East carriers yet. Finnair do all the simple things very well and have a really straightforward service proposition. Their lounge in Helsinki is world class, too.
