British Army AgustaWestland Wildcat Fires Live Rounds at Holbeach AWR | 1AAC 659 Squadron

A British Army Wildcat of the 659 Squadron visits RAF Holbeach Air Weapons Range. No. 659 Squadron are based at RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron) flying AgustaWestland Wildcat AH.1's as part of 1 Regiment Army Air Corps
The Army Wildcat Mk1 helicopter will perform a range of tasks on the battlefield including reconnaissance, command and control, transportation of troops and material, and the provision of force protection.
It is fitted with new Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC) CTS800-4N engines, which are significantly more powerful than those in its predecessor, the Lynx, enabling it to operate in extreme conditions and at high altitudes.
The Wildcat is fitted with a nose mounted MX-15 Wescam Electro Optical Device (EOD) enabling it to detect targets by day and night at significant range.
The name Wildcat recalls the name given to the Grumman F4F which was widely used during the Second World War. The aircraft ceased operational service in 1945 but some flying aircraft remain, including one in the collection of the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Fascinating video boss. Fantastic quality. Obviously Ted you did the camera checks. I don't know if it still the case but Marham control Holbeach and Coningsby controlling Donna Nook. The AWRs have no Area Radar. A final salute to the Sqn Ldr from the Army...Nice. 👍

Cooaarrr really enjoyed tgat. There is alot of control over weapon. Ammunition x 4 refill then Auto Machine Guns removed. Re-assuring to know how careful they are. All those people and vans. Transportation done Separately for each component. Who Knew!? Quality filmong. Guess the Soldier came over too you? RAF AWR Holbeach is a favorite place of mine. Quality!! Ka-boom from the Wildcat.. Put some holes in the barge. Carriers have them. Up the Army in this instance. Only a year late for me! TED hope you had ur eardefenders on? 😊 Smile fest!! 6/9/23 . Salute the TED!!
